Final Fantasy 9 Could Come to PC Very Soon

A since-removed listing on Green Man Gaming indicates that Square Enix could be planning a stealth launch for the enhanced version of Final Fantasy IX on PC.

image description

Following the sales success of the enhanced ports of Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VIII on PC, it came as no surprise when Square Enix announced plans a few months back to bring Final Fantasy IX to the platform as well. The company has been quiet about the game since the initial announcement, but if a since-removed listing on UK video game retailer website Green Man Gaming is any indication, fans may be able to playon PC as soon as tomorrow.

The listing pointed to Final Fantasy IX releasing for PCs on April 14th, 2016. However, the game’s Steam page doesn’t have a release date yet, and Square Enix has yet to make an official comment on the matter. Despite this, there is still a possibility that Final Fantasy IX on PCwill in fact release tomorrow.

This is based on Square Enix’s past behavior with the enhanced port of the game, as Final Fantasy IX was stealth launched by Square Enix on mobile devicesa couple months ago. It’s unclear why this approach was taken, but it’s reasonable to assume that Square Enix is willing to do the same thing when it comes to releasing the game on PC.

With the listing pulled from Green Man Gaming and Square Enix remaining mum on the matter, we won’t know until tomorrow rolls around if the listing was accurate. If it does turn out to be true, Final Fantasy IX enthusiasts will soon be able to play a version of the game with cheatsthat will allow them to breeze through battles and just focus on experiencing the game’s story if they so choose. These new features may make Final Fantasy IX on PC a worthwhile purchase, even to those that have already spent extensive time with the game on PlayStation.

In the meantime, fans may be wondering when the Final Fantasy IX enhanced port will make its way to consoles. Considering how long it took Final Fantasy VII to come to PlayStation 4, and the fact that the enhanced version of Final Fantasy VIII is still not available on console, it seems like those waiting for FFIX on PS4 or other systems will have to wait much longer than PC gamers. Unless Square Enix decides to be quicker on the draw when it comes to making Final Fantasy IX available on home consoles, it could be years before the game releases on anything besides PC and mobile devices.

Final Fantasy IX is scheduled to release on PC at some point this year.

The 2015 Frankfurt Auto Show is in full swing, and it is where Porsche is showing its updated 911 Carrera models for the first time. Porsche die-hards may recall that it was in Frankfurt four years ago that we first saw the 991-series introduced, and at this year's show the updated 991.2-series is on display.

Porsche has only announced updated versions of the entry-level Carrera and Carrera S models, and as predicted the cars have adopted turbocharged power. Porsche’s entire 911 range bar the track-focused GT-badged cars is moving towards downsized turbocharged engines. This will help reduce emissions while at the same time increase power—a concept referred to as Porsche Intelligent Performance by the automaker. It will also make the cars more attractive in countries where taxes are based on engine size.

The newly developed engine for the updated 911 Carrera models is a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter flat-six that happily revs to 7,500 rpm. It develops 370 horsepower and 331 pound-feet torque in the Carrera and 420 hp and 368 lb-ft in the Carrera S. That’s up 20 hp for both models, and according to Porsche the efficiency has been increased by up to 12 percent. EPA ratings will be available at a later date. Differences between the two states of tune include model-specific exhausts, modified compressor wheels and unique ECU settings.

When equipped with the Sport Chrono Package and seven-speed dual-clutch PDK transmission, the Carrera accelerates from 0-60 mph in 4.0 seconds, which is 0.2 of a second quicker than before. A Carrera S with the same features needs just 3.7 seconds to reach 60, which is also 0.2 of a second quicker. Top speed has also risen, with the Carrera now topping out at 183 mph and the Carrera S at 191 mph. A seven-speed manual remains standard on both.

In addition to the new engine, there have also been some interesting chassis mods. The Sport Chrono Package now comes with a drive mode selector dial on the steering wheel. It allows the driver to select between Normal, Sport, Sport Plus, and Individual modes. And on models equipped with the PDK, there is also a Sport Response button, which Porsche says adjust the drivetrain for maximum acceleration.

The suspension has also been tuned for greater performance. The Porsche Active Suspension Management active damping system is now standard and lowers the ride height of the car by 10 millimeters. This is joined by new shock absorbers with improved response as well as rear wheels that are 0.5 of an inch wider and tires that offer reduced rolling resistance together with enhanced grip.

Optional features include a 40-millimeter front lift kit and a four-wheel-steering system borrowed from the 911 GT3 and Turbo models. The latter aids maneuverability at low speeds and increases accuracy and confidence at higher speeds. Altogether, the improvements are said to reduce the lap times on the Nürburgring to just 7:30 for the more potent Carrera S, making the car 10 seconds faster than the predecessor model.

On the outside, the front of the updated 911 is characterized by revised daytime running lights, a new shape for the front intakes, integrated door handle recesses, a redesigned rear deck lid with vertical louvers, and a new graphic in the tail-lights. There are also some new intakes at the side of the rear bumper to accommodate the turbocharged engine.

David Hayes celebrates six of the best as Miss Promiscuity leads charge

David Hayes celebrates six of the best as Miss Promiscuity leads charge

Trainer David Hayes' remarkable run of success across Australia on Saturday, which netted the operation six winners, resembled the stable of decades gone by, when he and his father would make clean sweeps of race meetings across the country.

Strategy: Craig Williams rides Miss Promiscuity to victory at Caulfield.

Included in that bag of winners was the brave performance of Miss Promiscuity in the $250,000 VOBIS Gold Sprint at Caulfield.

Hayes collected a winning treble after the deeds of Valliano and Red Bomber earlier in the day at Caulfield, plus interstate successes in Sydney and Adelaide, giving the stable six victories in all.

But thanks to a strategy arranged by the trainer and jockey, Miss Promiscuity was successful when it was decided to ride the mare more conservatively.

"She's got a really good finish on her, but it was just a matter of timing it properly and leaving it until into the straight," jockey Craig Williams said.

He said Miss Promiscuity had natural speed and brilliance, but it was a matter of regulating when to let her go.

"So we just eased back on her, and the final 200 metres was excellent, and that made all the difference," he said.

While Miss Promiscuity was successful, Newmarket Handicap winner The Quarterback may have been unlucky finishing in third position.

Starting at $3.40 favourite, The Quarterback finished well, but never appeared a realistic chance of success in the closing stages.

"We were happy with that – we said all along that the horse will be back in the field, and that was never going to make it easy. As it turned out we hit a traffic jam at the top of the straight, and while the horse was getting through that problem, Miss Promiscuity and Jalan Jalan were getting away from us. So all up, we were happy enough with the run," trainer Robbie Griffiths said.

The Quarterback will leave for Adelaide early next month to start in the Goodwood Handicap, and from there the sprinter will be flown to England to compete in the King Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot in June.

Miss Promiscuity will also head to Adelaide, for the group 1 Sangster Stakes at Morphettville, also in early May.

"She's racing in great heart and she's certainly earned a crack at group 1 company. Today she was pitted against a Newmarket winner and not that well off at the weights, but still managed to beat him. In the Sangster she'll come back to mares only, and I think she'll be ideally suited over there," Hayes said.

Thermal Current appeared to lose momentum with 300m to go when he was blocked for a run, however, he managed to pick himself up over the final 100m to be fourth.

Jalan Jalan, another on-pace galloper, boxed on well to be second at $8.50, and will also be suited in weaker company in the next six weeks.

Meanwhile, trainer John Sadler, who won the $250,000 Gold Reef Stakes at Caulfield with up-and-coming three-year-old Bengal Cat, said he considered the success an emotional one.

Ridden by his son Tom, Bengal Cat also earned a trip to Adelaide in the next few weeks to contest group races, after making it two wins in just seven days.

"A lot of my family are here today. It's a great win having Tom on board, and the owners have been very loyal and supportive, so it was a great win all around," Sadler said.

"I don't think she's going to be a real stayer but, at the same time, 1800 metres is well within her grasp, and I think she's going to be very competitive over in Adelaide.

"She's in a good mindset at the moment, she's enjoying her racing, and I think she'll be competitive wherever she goes."

As much as $4 was bet on Bengal Cat, but eventually that price firmed into $3.10 and she proved too strong for Unbreakable at $16, with Tarquin battling away to be third at $3.70.

Is This Red Dead Redemption 2’s Game Map?

Is This Red Dead Redemption 2’s Game Map?

A NeoGAF user by the name of Mideon posts what is said to be the game map for the rumored Red Dead Redemption 2 , which reveals surprising details about the game.

image description

Fans have been waiting for news on Red Dead Redemption 2 for years, but Rockstar Games has remained mostly mum on the matter. While Rockstar’s silence has still not been broken, a NeoGAF user by the name of Mideon has posted what could potentially be the map for, offering clues as to what the long-awaited sequel will entail.

The map, which has since been removed from NeoGAF, has reportedly been verified to be the “real deal” by a source at Rockstar Games. Even so, it should be taken with a grain of salt until Rockstar makes an official confirmation. However, if we assume that the map is indeed a legitimate representation of where Red Dead Redemption 2 will take place, we can glean some interesting information from it.

For one, it appears as though Red Dead Redemption 2 will share at least one location with the previous game in the series, in the form of the Great Plains. Otherwise, it appears as though the sequel will encompass entirely new land, and feature much more water. This could indicate that the playable character in Red Dead Redemption 2 will be able to swim, which wasn’t possible in the original Red Dead Redemption .

Is This Red Dead Redemption 2's Game Map? - Red Dead Redemption 2 game map leak Is This Red Dead Redemption 2's Game Map? - Red Dead Redemption 2 game map leak

The map also seems to indicate that Red Dead Redemption 2 could actually be a prequel. This speculation stems from the map not featuring any railroads, whereas the first Red Dead Redemption had a heavy focus on them. Having said that, there is a railroad key in the map’s legend, so players may witness the construction of the railroads during the course of the game, or, if rumors of Red Dead Redemption 2 having multiple playable charactersare true, perhaps players will be able to bounce between characters that exist in different periods of time – one where the railroads have been built, and one where they are still under construction.

Something else of note from the leaked map is an area located in the bottom right called New Bordeaux. Take-Two’s upcoming Mafia 3 is set in New Bordeaux– an alternative take on New Orleans, Louisiana. This could indicate that Take-Two plans on bridging the Red Dead Redemption and Mafia 3 universes.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is rumored for release in 2017 on unspecified platforms.

2016 Honda Civic First Look

2016 Honda Civic First Look

Honda’s tenth-generation Civic is finally here, with the Japanese automaker today giving us our first look at the sedan variant due in showrooms later this fall.

Honda’s tenth-generation Civic is finally here, with the Japanese automaker today giving us our first look at the sedan variant due in showrooms later this fall. Arriving as a 2016 model, the new Civic is completely unrelated to the highly criticized model introduced for 2012as it benefits from a new platform, new engines and the latest tech. There will also be more variants to choose from, one of which will be a high-performance Type R.

Honda has confirmed that its new Civic will be offered as a sedan, coupe and five-door hatchback, and some of these will include performance-oriented variants badged either an Si or Type R. Most Civics sold in the United States will be sourced from plants in Greensburg, Indiana and Alliston, Ontario. However, the hatchback was recently confirmed to be coming from the United Kingdom.

Two new powertrains have also been announced. Both are four-cylinder units with direct fuel injection and turbocharging, and both will be manufactured in Anna, Ohio. Front-wheel drive will remain standard.

The smaller engine displaces 1.5 liters and features in EX-T, EX-L and Touring trim levels. It’s available exclusively with a CVT. The larger unit is a 2.0-liter mill which also incorporates Honda’s VTEC variable valve timing technology. This one features in LX and EX trim levels and is available with either a six-speed manual or CVT. This is also the engine that features in the Type R and may end up delivering as much as 305 horsepower— the rating the European-spec Type R receives(shown above).

All Honda will confirm at present is that the engines are targeted to receive EPA highway fuel economy ratings in excess of 40 mpg. Full specs will be announced closer to the market launch.

The suspension is also completely new, with redesign struts up front and a new multi-link rear setup mounted to an ultra-rigid rear subframe. The suspension is also lower, which combined with a lower floor and engine should lead to a lower center of gravity. Other features aimed at improving the ride and handling include hydraulic compliance bushings, variable gear ratio steering, beefier front and rear stabilizer bars, and brake-based torque vectoring.

The cabin design remains much same as in the outgoing model, albeit with the two-tier instrument cluster replaced by a more conventional single-cluster design. There's an additional 3.7 cubic feet of interior space with 2 inches of added rear-seat legroom versus the outgoing model. Anyone opting for EX trim and above will also get folding seats in the rear with a 60/40 split.

When it comes to tech, Honda says the new Civic will be available with LED headlights as well as smartphone integration for both Apple and Android devices. There is also a seven-inch touchscreen display. Finally, Honda is offering a suite of electronic safety and driver aids, including Collision Mitigation Braking, Road Departure Mitigation and, for the first time in a Honda, Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow traffic crawling.

As mentioned above, the sedan will go on sale this fall. The coupe will follow in the winter and the hatchback will arrive sometime next year. Unfortunately, we’re hearing that the Type R might not be available until the 2017 calendar year. That’s because Honda is thought to be skipping the current hatchback-based Type R sold overseas in favor of a sedan- or coupe-based model for the U.S. We should have more details following the new Civic's official debut at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show in November.

Debt-free ATC ready to make Sydney racing more dynamic

Debt-free ATC ready to make Sydney racing more dynamic

The Australian Turf Club is set to become one of the strongest sporting organisations in the country after finally clearing itself of all debt.

"We've got world-class horses - the eyes of the world are watching us - and we need a world-class stage": Chris Waller.

Less than a year after having the millstone of TVN released from its balance sheet, the ATC will be debt-free this year, with commercial opportunities abounding in property and around racedays, with upgrade facilities at Randwick and Rosehill.

The benefit of cash flow and a strong financial position can already be seen, as the club has built a strong team in terms of numbers and talent in the past year. There is a budget to continue growth, make Sydney racing more dynamic and there is a healthy financial outlook for continued growth in the business.

The ATC will release a strategic plan in coming months, a view for its assets into the next decade, the centre of which will be tracks and facilities for training.

For first time since the merger, the ATC has money to spend and is ready to spend it.

Improving crowd figures a must

Sydney racing has its ground zero for the autumn carnival. The crowds for The Championships and the Golden Slipper should never be allowed to fall under the base set this year.

There is a strong product and strong awareness of major racing days. The next step should be to make them the biggest event in Sydney on each of the racedays. It should be the must-do event socially, sportingly and in terms of networking for business in March and April.

While the Melbourne spring has no competition for numbers and is rooted in strong tradition, which keeps the crowd flowing through the gates, Sydney is in the progress of re-establishing its identity for the autumn carnival and winning back the public.

Randwick deserves better than a 'cow paddock' track

Randwick has world-class facilities, but a third-world racetrack. The crowd for the final day of nearly 15,000 shows people will come to Randwick. Now the club has to work at making it palatable for the horsemen to send their steeds there with confidence. It has been no better than a cow paddock for the past three weekends.

"We've got world-class horses - the eyes of the world are watching us - and we need a world-class stage," premier trainer Chris Waller told Fairfax Media. "We don't have that at the moment.

"If Kembla Grange can get a similar amount of rain to Randwick and be a good track while Randwick is in the heavy or soft range, why don't we move The Championships to Kembla Grange and build the facilities around there to accommodate a world-class track? I walked the track on the Monday after the Doncaster and was horrified."

Waller is not the only one with concerns about the track but the big prizemoney papers over the gaping crater that is the track. The club and Racing NSW realise the benefit of having a grand Randwick track would be a significant turnover rise.

The track simply has been the same since its rebuild and ATC track bosses Lindsay Murphy and Nevesh Ramdhani can only work with what they have and that's not much.

The first part of the plan is to get a new Kensington track. Racing NSW and ATC will look at it this week. The view is it needs to be ripped up and built on the model of Canterbury, the best track in Sydney. It needs to start sooner rather than later.

It should happen in weeks. The reality is, it will be months before anything is done.

The course proper will follow. That should happen next year. In reality, it might be it won't happen before 2018.

Sticky surface added handicap for many

It was a case that if you handled the sticky Randwick surface you had a big advantage during the past three weeks.

The three main races on the final day were won by horses that had performed well on the track during The Championships. He's Our Rokkii completed the Carbine Club Stakes-Frank Packer Plate double, Prized Icon the Fernhill Handicap-Champagne Stakes and English was a slashing third in the TJ Smith before her All Aged Stakes victory.

The form stood up but more horses were disadvantaged by the track than handled it. As the racing carnival moves to Hawkesbury, Scone and Brisbane in coming weeks there might be horses that appreciate a better surface and have form reversals.

Angland avoids whip breach by hitting himself

There were no whip breaches on the final day of the autumn carnival, mainly due to Tye Angland pulling out of an attempt to strike Less Or More in consecutive strides in the last event on Saturday.

Jockeys are still adjusting to the rules, and Angland found himself ready to hit his mount in consecutive strides. "I was going to do it and realised just in time and tried to pull out of it," he told stewards. "I ended up hitting my boot, so I didn't really break the rule."

It was obvious on the film what Angland had attempted to do and for the second time he escaped without penalty by running the same defence. The whip rules will be front and centre at this week's national stewards conference, with the unlimited number of strikes in the final 100 metres as much under the microscope as the limit of five before it.

Uncharted 4 Won’t Have ‘Doughnut Drake’

Uncharted 4 Won’t Have ‘Doughnut Drake’

Neil Druckmann confirms that the staple ‘Doughnut Drake’ skin available in previous games in the series is not present in the upcoming Uncharted 4 .

image description

We already know that the team at Naughty Dog expects the ending of the upcoming Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End will prove to be divisive among fans of the series. However, there’s now word that a well-loved character from the first three games in the franchise is set to be axed from the fourth title.

That character is Nathan Drake himself — although, admittedly, it’s not the svelte version of the protagonist that typically adopts a starring role. Instead, it’s the obese alternate skin that’s been present in every mainline instalment thus far, known as ‘Doughnut Drake’ to some and ‘Fat Drake’ to others.

Previously, the skin has been available via some pretty challenging unlock requirements. However, creative director forNeil Druckmann has now confirmed that Doughnut Drake will not make an appearance in the hotly anticipated sequel, according to a report from Gamespot.

Druckmann notes that Naughty Dog actually had plans to include the skin, even going as far as to create the 3D model that would be used in the game. However, upon reflection the team decided that the joke had run its course, and that the group had “matured beyond that” according to the director.

Uncharted 4 Story Scrapped

Uncharted 4 Story Scrapped

It’s no secret that Naughty Dog has been on a path towards more serious output for many years. While the studio first rose to major prominence on the back of the classic Crash Bandicoot series, there’s been a concerted effort over the twenty years since to deliver more refined, mature experiences — and jokes like Doughnut Drake don’t really match that outlook.

Of course, the decision can also be linked to the fact that Uncharted 4 is being billed as the conclusion to the franchise as we know it. If the game is to be the epic conclusion to Drake’s journey, the weight of proceedings might be undercut slightly if players are able to experience the ride with a 400 pound version of the protagonist.

Despite the disappearance of Doughnut Drake, Uncharted 4 certainly looks to be shaping up nicely. Earlier this week, the developers behind Quantum Break made a point of praising the upcoming release— even though it will no doubt be compared to their own third-person shooter.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is set to release for PlayStation 4 on May 10, 2016.

American Time continues run towards Wagga Cup

American Time continues run towards Wagga Cup

American Time is being aimed to finish her current campaign in the $150,000 Listed Wagga Wagga Cup (2000m) on May 6, but first she must get through her next run on Sunday.

The Gratz Vella-trained galloper will step out next in the $30,000 Murrumbidgee Cup (1800m) on Sunday, which will also be staged at the Wagga racecourse.

The Murrumbidgee Cup serves as the prelude event to the Wagga Cup, and Vella expects American Time to perform strongly despite having not run a place since she resumed seven starts back.

The All American mare has been racing in strong company this time in, and barring a poor showing on a boggy track in the $170,000 Listed Albury Cup, she has not been disgraced in any of her outings.

Vella believes that circumstances have not aligned to allow American Time to demonstrate her full ability this campaign.

"Every time I've had her right, she's been either over the wrong distance or she's been racing on a wet track," Vella said.

The Canberra trainer is hopeful that forecasted light showers can stay away from the Wagga racecourse in the lead-up to Sunday's race and that the track will remain a good-3, which will suit his four-year-old.

Vella believes American Time will run out the 1800 metres nicely, and with an in-form apprentice hoop in the saddle, will have no excuses on Sunday.

"I've got Kayla Nisbet on her, and she's been riding her work," Vella said. "Kayla's been very happy with her work.

"The horse likes racing from behind, and being over 1800 [metres], I think Kayla will be trying to be midfield with cover, and give the horse a bit of daylight when she straightens up and let her come home.

"There's a little bit of speed there, so if she can settle midfield I think she'll be right there at the finish."

New Uncharted 4 Screenshots Look Stunning

New Uncharted 4 Screenshots Look Stunning

New Uncharted 4 screenshots were leaked and they showcase Nathan Drake’s latest adventure in a beautiful environment, complete with explosions and gunfire.

image description

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is now only a month away from its release and today marks a rather fruitful lifting of one particular embargo. To celebrate, here are a bunch of new, stunning screenshots from the upcoming action-adventure game.

Uncharted 4 Leak 1

Uncharted 4 Leak 1

These images were first leaked the other day by Italian website Spaziogames.it, and have since been published all over the internet by those quick enough to save the images before the article was taken down. Given how visually impressive the shots are, it’s becoming increasingly clear as to how Uncharted 4 will reportedly push the boundaries of the PS4. As an exclusive title to the console, the latest in the Uncharted franchise is sure to be a strong selling point for PlayStation.

The screenshots appear to show off Nathan’s dramatic escape from an exploding building, as well as some hand-to-hand and gun-based combat that is sure, as ever, to be an important part of the gameplay. One image shows off the game’s beautiful environment as Nathan and his companions drive through a dark cave. According to previous reports, the world that players will be able to explore is around 10 times the sizeof those shown in the series’ previous titles.

The game is to be the final adventure for adventurer Nathan Drake, as he goes in search of a conspiracy behind long lost pirate colony Libertalia and it’s fabled pirate treasure. In a recent ‘Making Of’ video, developer Naughty Dog revealed that it wants Drake’s last hurrah to be a game capable of making fans laugh and cry. It’s a tall order but the Uncharted series is well known for its story-telling ability and it looks like the development team might just be up to the task, judging by the emotional tone of the latest trailer.

Although fans have had to wait a long delay-riddentime since their last encounter with Nathan Drake, the game has finally been completed. Despite having to wait much longer than initially thought, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is still easily one of the most anticipated games of this year and if the extra waiting time is just what the game needed to be fully ready to play, then so be it. The most recent delay was simply down to manufacturing time as PlayStation prepare enough copies to survive the game’s launch day.

2016 Acura MDX Gets Nine-Speed Auto, Available Electronic Driver Aids: Live Photos

The current MDX has only been around since the 2014 model year but already the popular seven-seat SUV is receiving some significant updates.

The current MDX has only been around since the 2014 model year but already the popular seven-seat SUV is receiving some significant updates. Although there are no changes to its styling, the 2016 Acura MDX will be coming to the market with a new nine-speed automatic transmission, a new all-wheel-drive system, and some available electronic driver aids grouped under the AcuraWatch heading. There’s also been a slight increase in price, with the base 2016 MDX starting at $43,785, including a $920 destination charge, which is up $325 on pricing for the base 2015 model.

However, the updates made to the vehicle are well worth the relatively minor price rise. The most significant is the new nine-speed auto, which gets a push-button electronic gear selector and paddle shifters for manual control. The new transmission is also 66 pounds lighter than the six-speed unit it replaces, helping to improve front-to-rear weight distribution for better handling characteristics. Finally, the new transmission features more closely spaced gear ratios and 25 percent faster gear shifts.

ALSO SEE: Ferrari 488 GTB Revealed, Packs 660-HP Twin-Turbo V-8: Video

Despite the addition of extra gears, which usually lowers fuel consumption, the 2016 MDX’s EPA-estimated gas mileage comes in at 1 mpg worse off in the city and on the highway compared to the 2015 MDX’s numbers. Front-wheel-drive 2016 MDXs rate in at 19/27 mpg city/highway; add the available engine stop-start system and you’re looking at 20/27 mpg; and with all-wheel drive you’re looking at 18/26 mpg or 19/26 mpg with stop-start.

Like the transmission, the new all-wheel-drive system fitted to the 2016 MDX also helps save weight—19 lbs in total. It’s still a mechanical setup (as opposed to the hybrid-based setup found in the RLX Sport Hybrid and new NSX supercar) but it benefits from a new twin-clutch rear differential that more evenly and smoothly distributes torque, not only between the front and rear axles but also between the left and right rear wheels. This is said to enable more responsive, neutral and predictable handling.

The last major update is the available AcuraWatch suite of safety technologies. This consists of a number of electronic driver aids such as adaptive cruise control, lane keep and road departure assist, and active braking with pedestrian detection.

Other updates either standard or available include a frameless rearview mirror, Siri Eyes Free voice recognition, an easy-entry/exit driver’s seat that moves 35 millimeters rearward when the driver’s door is opened, a new tire pressure monitoring system that offers an alert when the tire is inflated to the correct pressure, and a multi-view reversing camera with dynamic guidelines.

Sales of the 2016 Acura MDX are already underway. Note, the vehicle’s corporate cousin, the 2016 Honda Pilot, also made its debut this week at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show.

Uncharted 4’s Opening Sequence is Better Than the Opener in The Last of Us

Naughty Dog’s communications director, Arne Meyer, claims that the opening sequence in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is better than the one in The Last of Us .

One of the most memorable moments in Naughty Dog’s award-winning game The Last of Us is its opening sequence. The opening of The Last of Us is known for being an especially emotional experience, and some consider it one of the best opening levels in all of video gaming. However, with Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End , Naughty Dog has apparently raised the bar again when it comes to video game opening sequences.

This is according to Naughty Dog’s communications director Arne Meyer. Meyer made this lofty claim aboutin a recent interview with PlayStation Espana, stating:

“In my personal opinion, this is our strongest beginning, opening sequence for games since The Last of Us , which was obviously very emotional. But I think this is probably one of the best opening sequences as well. That feeling of wanting to keep playing and wanting to know where it goes continues the entire game.”

Considering how well players responded to the opening sequence in The Last of Us , this should get fans plenty hyped. Of course, Meyer is biased as he works for Naughty Dog, but he’s not the only one praising Uncharted 4 . In fact, just recently, some of the developers expressed excitement for Uncharted 4 .

Uncharted 4 Leak 1

Uncharted 4 Leak 1

Meyer’s bias aside, past Uncharted games also had exciting opening sequences, with the opener for Uncharted 2 perhaps being the most notable. That game began with protagonist Nathan Drake trying to avoid death in a train hanging precariously over a cliff, resulting in a stunning platforming sequence that will also probably be remembered as one of the strongest opening sequences in the history of video gaming. However, if Uncharted 4 ‘s opening sequence is said to top the one in The Last of Us , perhaps it will trade the action-packed opening of Uncharted 2 for something with more of an emotional punch.

It seems as though the more likely scenario would be for the opening sequence in Uncharted 4 to have an emotional bend not found in Uncharted 2 ‘s opening. After all, Uncharted 4 is inspired by The Last of Us , and features the creative team that worked on that game. It would make sense for Uncharted 4 to be more of an emotional adventure than past games in the franchise, and with the possibility of Nathan Drake dying in Uncharted 4 , that comes as no surprise.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End will be available on May 10th, exclusively for PlayStation 4.

The RDX is Acura's compact crossover vehicle, and until a few years ago, it had a lot less competition. But with the arrival of vehicles like the Lincoln MKC and Lexus NX, it's time to step up its game--and that's just what Acura is doing for the 2016 model year.

The most noticeable change with the RDX this year is a new grille, one that's in line with Acura's other updated vehicles for 2016--the MDX crossover and ILX sedan. LED headlights and taillights have been applied to the front and rear ends, too.

The RDX's interior has been spruced up a bit with revised trim and materials. A new dual-screen infotainment system like the one in the Honda Accord is now available, as are remote start, heated and ventilated seats, and HD radio.

Acura’s also upped the safety quotient with an available lane-departure warning system, adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning system with automatic braking, and lane-keeping assistance.

Powering the 2016 RDX is a 3.5-liter V-6 engine with 279 horsepower. Power is sent to the front wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is on the options list. EPA fuel economy ratings increase by 1 mpg on the highway across the board this year, now at 19/28 mpg for all-wheel-drive models and 20/29 mpg for front-wheel-drive models.

Pricing should be announced soon, just before the updated 2016 Acura RDXgoes on sale this spring.

Vinery's Peter Orton said there had been great interest in the colt and a service fee was likely to be announced on Wednesday.

Trained by Chris Waller to win the J J Atkins at two and this season's Caulfield Guineas, Press Statement won six of his 11 starts and finished fifth in Saturday's All Aged Stakes.

Meantime, Nick Olive will be a relieved trainer on two fronts as he prepares to have his first city runner since his best horse was involved in fall during The Championships.

As Single Gaze crashed to the turf under Kathy O'Hara in the ATC Australian Oaks earlier this month, Olive feared the worst for the horse and rider who a fortnight earlier gave him his first group 1One win.

O'Hara suffered a punctured lung, a broken collar bone and fractured ribs and is expected to be out of racing for up to four months.

It's a similar timeline on Single Gaze's absence from the racetrack, but Olive is glad he will have the chance to train the filly for a spring campaign.

"We've had her in the stable since the fall and she was quite bruised and a bit sorry for herself," Olive said.

"She pulled a muscle in her stomach as well and that will take a couple of months to get right.

"But we had the vet go over her for the last time yesterday and she gave her the go-ahead to go to the (spelling) paddock today." Stablemate Cheeky Devil also has Olive thankful she is heading to Canterbury on Wednesday with her form on the training track pointing to an improvement on an unplaced first-up run in the bush.

"She was probably a touch disappointing the other day but the track was a little bit shifty (at Canberra) and I'm hoping that was her problem," Olive said.

"Her work since then has been great."

Cheeky Devil has won three of her seven starts since joining Olive's Canberra stable at the start of the season.

"She's a handy horse and I definitely think she is up to midweek class on her best form," Olive said.

And Champion sprinter Chautauqua has arrived safely in Hong Kong ahead of his first appearance on the international stage.

The dual TJ Smith Stakes winner travelled with Godolphin's Bow Creek and arrived on Tuesday morning.

Co-trainer Michael Hawkes said the gelding coped well with the trip which took 13-1/2 hours from stable to stable.

"He won't do much between now and Sunday," Hawkes told Melbourne radio station RSN.

"He's travelled well and everything's gone to plan."

Chautauqua, the world's highest-rated sprinter in the latest world rankings, runs in the Chairman's Sprint Prize on Sunday week while Bow Creek will contest the Champion's Mile.

Queensland sprinter Buffering is already in Hong Kong following his triumph in the Al Quoz Sprint in Dubai and will be among Chautauqua's rivals.

PS4 Update 3.5 Has A Number Of Unannounced Features

PS4 Update 3.5 Has A Number Of Unannounced Features

Following the recent release of update 3.5 for the PlayStation 4, a number of Reddit users uncover a number of features that were not announced previously.

image description

It’s only been a few days since Sony released the, but it appears that users are in for a pleasant – and unexpected – surprise. While some gamers got to test the 3.5 firmware update last month, it appears that Sony had a few hidden tricks up its sleeve, as a number of eagle-eyed Redditusers are reporting that the new PlayStation 4 update contains more features than previously thought.

Aside from the long-awaited remote play feature for PC and Mac, the 3.5 firmware update comes with a number of unannounced features such as the reintroduction of the USB music player, and the inclusion of a search field on the game list, which will make searching for live-streams much easier. In addition to the new Appear Offline function, the update also gives users the ability to set a party member limit from two to eight people, and the ability to disable the screenshot on-screen notification, handy for taking screenshots without capturing the pop-up as well.

But perhaps the most useful feature is the PlayStation 4’s ability to better support 4TB hard drives. However, those keen to add some more storage space may want to be careful as it is not 100% confirmed that this feature works perfectly, though no problems have been reported just yet.

Sony’s PlayStation 4 may be leading the worldwide console salesrace at the moment, but based on the depth of confirmed and unconfirmed firmware updates recently, the tech giant isn’t letting up on maintaining their advantage. The 3.5 firmware update may have only just come out, but if a recent leaked survey for the 4.0 firmware updateis anything to go by, it looks like Sony still have got many more improvements and features planned.

The big question is whether Sony will consider implementing cross-platform support in a future firmware update. Microsoft recently stated that it has the technology in place for cross-platform play, and now the ball is in Sony’s court as to whether it should take up Microsoft’s cross-play open invitation. With the recent discovery of secret features in the 3.5 firmware update, as well as Sony’s non-committal and open-minded response to Microsoft’s invitation, gamers might be in for another surprise when the next PlayStation 4 update is released.

Watch the First 20 Minutes of Ratchet and Clank on PS4

Watch the First 20 Minutes of Ratchet and Clank on PS4

Insomniac Games releases a video showcasing the first 20 minutes of the Ratchet and Clank remake, ahead of the game’s release on Tuesday, April 12.

image description

The Ratchet and Clank series is one of the most beloved from the PS2 and PS3 eras of gaming, delivering memorable characters and a fantastic world alongside fun platforming gameplay. Because of this, fans of the franchise were extremely pleased to learn that the first game in the series was getting a remake for the PS4. With the release date just around the corner on Tuesday, 12 April, gamers can now get a glimpse at the game in action, courtesy of an extensive gameplay video.

The video comes from PlayStation Underground, where developer Insomniac Games’ James Stevenson shared a full 20 minutes of gameplay from theremake. The video showcases some of the thrilling platforming and action that gamers can expect from the title when it releases. The hosts play through a few levels, with several cut scenes thrown in along the way.

Alongside the gameplay footage itself, the video also brings to light some of the design choices made during the development process. In particular, Stevenson explained how the team tried to get around the comparatively “crude” nature of the 2002 original with additional gameplay features, stunning visuals, and new mechanics. Those interested in seeing the full 20 minutes of footage can do so by checking out the YouTube video below.

The return of the original Ratchet and Clank was initially revealed at E3 2014, to much fanfare. Since then, fans of the franchise have been wowed by plenty of trailers, including an initial gameplay trailerthat hit last year. Among the community, there was a strong hope that the remake would help return the franchise to glory.

It’s not all been plain sailing, however. After all, the title suffered from a delaydue to Insomniac wishing to hold back the release date of the game to coincide with the launch of the duo’s first movie performance. With the movie set to release on April 29, it gives players a good amount of time to get back into the Ratchet and Clank mood, even though the feature film itself may have a few deviations from the source material.

Ratchet and Clank will be released in North America on April 12, 2016, exclusively for PS4.

Destiny’s April Update: What Could It Include?

Destiny’s April Update: What Could It Include?

Destiny ‘s April Update promises to bring new PvE content, a higher Light level, new gear, and more.

image description

‘s April Update promises to bring new PvE content, a higher Light level, new gear, and more. Here’s what we think could be coming to Destiny next month.

Bungie has set the date—come April 12 fans will be diving into the Destiny April Update, which promises new content more substantial than any of the live events that have come before it during‘s Year Two.

Going off what little detail Bungie has revealed about the April Update, we speculate on what the update could be bringing:

New PvE Challenges

This could be as broad or specific as one can read into it. Considering Bungie’s history of live events this year, and the fact that it appears the majority of the development team is working on the major expansion slated for later this year(and of course the sequel coming in 2017), it seems unlikely this is a bevy of new destinations.

What does seems likely is a PvE event much like Queen’s Wrath, which debuted only once, just a month after the launch of vanilla Destiny . That event was not particularly valued among the community, but it’s important to look at the context to see why it was a failure.

Queen’s Wrathwas an event where Petra Venj appeared in the Tower and offered bounties to complete. Once a bounty was completed, players were able to play a Nightfall-level version of a campaign mission, which had a higher level and special modifiers. The reward was exclusive Queen’s Wrath equipment that could only be earned through the event.

Destiny Queen's Wrath Event

Destiny Queen's Wrath Event

The problem was some of the player base wasn’t geared to complete the high level missions yet. And those who were soon discovered that the equipment they earned from completing the missions could be dismantled for Ascendant Shards, a highly desired material at the time, as it was required to fully level armor and raise a player’s level.

Bungie soon realized Queen’s Wrath had just provided an unintended fast track to get Ascendant Shards and level quickly and patched it within a day. Queen’s Wrath equipment would longer dismantle into Ascendant Shards, and without that benefit (especially when duplicate gear dropped from missions), all players gave up on the missions. The reward they wanted most had been taken away, and that pretty much sealed the fate of Queen’s Wrath. It’s never been seen in the game since.

Fast forward to Year Two with players looking for reasons to return to PvE. Queen’s Wrath (or an event like it) could return, offering high level PvE missions with special modifiers for exclusive rewards. Plus the economy is much different nowwith Legendary weapons now dismantling into Legendary Marks. This could be the perfect time to reintroduce such an event.

Destiny Taken Guardians April Update

Destiny Taken Guardians April Update

The other option is related to this picture Bungie put out above. Here is what appears to be Taken Guardians, or Guardians wearing a Taken shader. Notably, they are all wearing full sets of Prison of Elders armor and standing in the Reef, which is where the Prison of Elders is located. That has caused many to speculate that Prison of Elders, Destiny ‘s Horde/Firefight mode introduced in the House of Wolves expansion, could be returning to offer said PvE content.

Perhaps the Taken have broken into the Prison of Elders and now Guardians must enter to take on modified Taken versions of old enemies. Add to it that Bungie said the April Update would offer PvE “replayability” and consider that the language is almost identical to how Bungie described the Prison of Elderswhen it was introduced. It could be an easy way for Bungie to freshen up content and give players a “new” experience.

New and Updated Gear

Bungie has already said the Light level cap will be raised in the April Update with new gear to collect.

Expect the same Light system to stay in place—after all, it’s in a fairly great place right now. Light levels have usually increased by two numerals with expansions in the past, which would translate into a 20 point increase with the new system introduced in Patch 2.0 and The Taken King . An educated guess would put the new cap at 340.

New Quest with the Blighted Chalice Strike

New Quest confirmed. New Strike confirmed. Quests since The Taken King have run the gamut from simple to complex, multi-day undertakings. Since this is the only Quest mentioned in the update, here’s hoping it’s a long one.

As for the Blighted Chalice Strike, this will be the first added since Taken King. However, it will be interesting to see if the Strike features a completely new locale, or if it reuses assets already in the game.

For those who played The Dark Below , they’ll remember that the Chalice was the object in the Crota boss fightfrom the game’s second raid. Players could only regenerate their health while holding the Chalice. So it’s probably safe to assume that the new Strike will take Guardians back to the Hellmouth and the Ascendant Realm.

Crota in Crota's End Raid

Crota in Crota's End Raid

This appears to be corroberated if what one Reddit was able to data minemonths ago proves to  be accurate. Here’s a data mined description found for the Strike: “A blight of Taken now roosts In the Hellmouth. Unchecked, they could refocus the Darkness within and descend on the City.”

New Gear and Rewards

As for gear, the known exotics that remain MIAcould make their debut. Also expect all the vendor gear in the Tower to be updated from the Vanguard to the Crucible Quartermaster to the factions. Iron Banner and Trials of Osiris seem to be slowing down as well, as many players have collected all the armor and weapons those modes have to offer, so the gear exclusive to those modes could also potentially see an update. Trials might even take a short break, as players try to hit the new Light level cap.

Destiny screenshot - Tower quartermaster

Destiny screenshot - Tower quartermaster

It will be nice to get some fresh weapons in the game because the meta has pretty much solidified itself, and weapon variety has diminished. But remember, with every weapon season there are typically revamped versions of old favorites in the mix, so players should be able to find an equivalent to their tried-and-true favorites(with some lucky loot drops, of course).

When it comes to the mention of “New Rewards,” it’s likely to mean new shaders, Ghost shells, Sparrows, etc.

Sandbox and Crucible Updates

Every major update introduces new tweaks to the game, sometimes it’s weapon balancing or added features or just quality of life additions that make playing the game more pleasant. Expect some or all of the same here.

A weapon rebalanceis likely since Bungie said it wanted to keep a more regular upkeep of the Crucible weapon experience in Year Two.

And More…

While on the topic of the Crucible, there’s a lot of buzz in the Destiny community right now that “Crucible Updates” or the “And More” could refer to custom and private games being added to Destiny . First off, there is no evidence for this rumor, but it’s definitely one of the most hoped for featuresby fans. And doing so could add tons of replayability and sustainability to Year Two.

Destiny Crucible Weapons Fireteam

Destiny Crucible Weapons Fireteam

It seems unlikely, but with so much desire for private matches, it could happen. After all Bungie is the developer who brought gamers Forge and Custom Games in Halo . Just imagine what fans could do with custom modifiers.

Does the fact that DICE added private matchesto Star Wars Battlefront post-launch give some hope that it’s possible? Maybe, but that could be irrelevant as it’s a different developer and game. Either way, big fingers crossed on this one.

The other buzz going around the Destiny community refers back to the picture of the Guardians who appear to have been Taken. Are these new enemies? Is this related to a specific mechanic in the new Strike? Is it a Shader? It’s all up in the air right now, but that same Reddit user who discovered the description of the Blighted Chalice Strike may have also discovered the answer on this one. It appears that it will be a shader. Perhaps even the reward at the end of that new Quest.

Some more speculation under the “And More” category—could this new Update also add more story and/or lore? Expect new Dead Ghostsand Grimoire cards for sure. With The Taken King ‘s new focus on storytelling, perhaps new cutscenes could be coming as well to push the story along.

Destiny Player Already Reached Level 34 on All Three Classes in 2 Days - Queen

Destiny Player Already Reached Level 34 on All Three Classes in 2 Days - Queen

Perhaps the Queen of the Reef (who Bungie confirmed to be aliveand returning in the future) will make an appearance, calling Guardians back to the Reef to take on more missions to clear out the Taken. It could happen, especially if the Prison of Elders plays a major part in the Update’s PvE content or if Queen’s Wrath gets a revamp.

Lastly, fans have been hoping that Bungie would do something with the old raids, Vault of Glassand Crota’s End. There has been no mention of it, but Bungie could choose to revitalize those experiences by either releasing higher level versions or introducing new enemies (such as the Taken) into them, but that’s speculation at this point.

Regardless of which of these theories may or may not come to fruition in the April Update, fans are looking forward to see new content make its way to Destiny .

What do you think is likely to be in Destiny ‘s April Update? Do you think we overlooked anything? Let us know in the comments!

Final Fantasy 15 Director Talks About Upcoming DLC, Frame Rates and Potential PC Version

Final Fantasy 15 Director Talks About Upcoming DLC, Frame Rates and Potential PC Version

Final Fantasy 15 director Hajime Tabata talks about the game’s upcoming DLC plans, and other technical aspects such as frame rates, PC ports, and design choices.

image description

Ever since Square Enix held its Uncovered: Final Fantasy XV eventa couple of weeks ago, director Hajime Tabata has been busy making the press rounds, and slowly trickling out details about the highly-anticipated JRPG. Today, Tabata revealed some very interesting details in relation to Square Enix’s post-launch DLC plans, and various technical aspects in the development of Final Fantasy XV .

Speaking to the French website JuexVideo, Tabata revealed that the development team is in the process of planning out the DLC for Final Fantasy XV. While announcements won’t be arriving until the Summer, Tabata did state that the team is aiming to create DLC that will prolong the pleasure of playing the game, as well as create enthusiasm amongst gamers.

Having previously stated that a PC version of Final Fantasy XV is “under consideration”, Tabata has reiterated his interest in releasing the game on PC. The team is currently focused on the console version of the game at the moment, but Tabata stated that he is interested in doing a PC version afterwards because it would free the team up from any console limitations, and allow the them to push the game to a new technical level. However, should this PC version come to fruition, it will be a bit of a wait as this version would kick off a presumably length porting process. Having said that, the wait sounds like it will be worth it, as this hypothetical PC version of Final Fantasy XV could end up being far more than a simple console port, and fans are probably used to waiting by now.

final fantasy 15 noctis fire explosion magic

final fantasy 15 noctis fire explosion magic

Following some concerns over the frame rate in the Final Fantasy XV Platinum Demo , Tabata has said that the final product will meet the team’s target of 30 frames per second. Reassuringly, the team has finalized what is going to be seen on screen, and are currently focused on optimizing the game’s visuals and gameplay balance from now until the title’s September 30 release.

And finally, Final Fantasy XV will apparently feature fewer cinematic cut-scenes than in previous Final Fantasy games. The reasoning behind this decision is that rather than use excessive cinematic scenes for the game, Square Enix wanted to save them up for the upcoming Final Fantasy XV film. This shouldn’t be much of an issue, given that Final Fantasy XV looks fantastic, and the game’s current visuals are almost on par with cinematic cutscenes anyway.

Final Fantasy XV is scheduled for launch on September 30, 2016 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

5 Pokemon That Should Be Added to Pokken Tournament

5 Pokemon That Should Be Added to Pokken Tournament

Now that Pokken Tournament is available to the masses, we take a look at five Pokemon we’d like to see join the game’s roster as downloadable fighters.

image description

As one of the most anticipated games arriving on the Nintendo Wii U in 2016, Pokken Tournament is sure to bring a smile to the faces of many afan. One of the issues we found whilst playing through the title, however, pertained to the fact that the game only features a total of 16 playable characters – two of which are Pikachu and two more that are simply variants of Mewtwo. This lack of selection is something that we immediately pointed out during our review of Pokken Tournament , but it got us thinking about what other monsters we’d like to see join the fray.

After much deliberation, we’ve drummed up a list featuring some of our most desired Pocket Monster candidates. Given that there are no current plans for Pokken Tournament DLC, these ideas may never be realized. Still, with four gaps hinting that there may still be more spots up for grabs on the main roster, we couldn’t help but speculate on just which Pokemon they could be.

Without any further delay, here are our picks for futurefighters.

Scyther

As one of the original and beloved Bug-types, there’s no denying that Scyther is well-equipped to go toe-to-toe (or scythe-to-face) with the competition featured in Pokken Tournament . Another reason for its inclusion on this list is that, as it stands, there are currently no Bug Pokemon on the game’s roster. This needs to be addressed as soon as possible, and Scyther would be a great way of going about that.

Blastoise
Goodra

As a newer Pokemon that was first introduced in Pokemon X and Y , Goodra has quickly become one of the more popular monsters featured within the series. Part of this could stem from the fact that Ash Ketchum has one in the ongoing anime series, but the truth simply is that this Dragon-type could be implemented into Pokken Tournament with some great results. Given the fact that it appears to be made out of goo and is incredibly malleable, there’s a lot of moveset potential for this creature.

Hitmonlee & Hitmonchan

It’s almost shocking that neither Hitmonlee or Hitmonchan made it into the final Pokken Tournament roster, as they both should have been frontrunners for inclusion. Given how closely tied these two Fighting-types are to one another, however, we’ve opted to include both of them in our number two spot. Even then, we still really want to see the Pokemon inspired by Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan, respectively, added to the game for obvious reasons.

Metagross

The four-legged, metal monster known as Metagross has become a tried-and-true go-to for competitive players. Mind you, this status has been bestowed upon it thanks to its Mega Evolution, but the admiration for the Pocket Monster amongst fans still stands out as quite noticeable. Add in the fact that Metagross is a Steel/Physic-type and another quadruped (the only other currently on the roster is Suicune), and there’s no denying that this behemoth would be a worthy addition to this fighting game.

That concludes out list of Pokemon that we’d like to see join Pokken Tournament . We realize that with over 700 monster to choose from, some favorites may be missing from our comparatively minute list. Fan-favorites like Greninja and Howlucha are obvious absentees, but that’s why we want to hear what your most desired Pokken fighters are in the comment section below. Be sure to get at us there and let us know what you thought of our list and which beasts you think could still be coming.

Plays of the Week

From bunker brilliance to rampaging Waratahs, these are the most exciting, silly and downright crazy plays in the sport world this week.

PT2M0S 620 349

BARCELONA: Australian cyclist Richie Porte says he's happy with his form and his performance in the Tour of Catalonia despite just missing out on a podium finish.

Porte, who was the defending champion, came in fourth overall on Sunday behind Colombia's Nairo Quintana, Spain's Alberto Contador and Ireland's Daniel Martin.

Quintana successfully defended his seven-second advantage over Contador on the final stage, an eight-lap ride through 136.4km up and down the Montjuic hill overlooking Barcelona.

Movistar rider Quintana stayed close to Contador from the start on Sunday and his lead was never in jeopardy.

Daniel Martin of Ireland, the 2013 winner, finished third overall - 17 seconds behind Quintana.

Porte's team, BMC Racing, took out the team classification with its US rider Tejay van Garderen coming fifth overall.

Porte said in a statement he was happy with his week of racing despite not ending up on the podium.

"I think it was the perfect race at this time of the year. I didn't really expect to hold onto the podium when Dan Martin was sprinting for bonus seconds but I think I showed that my form is good.

"It was always going to be a bridging race so I'm happy with my performance and it was a good chance to race with Tejay for the first time."

The weeklong race in northeastern Spain attracted some of cycling's top riders, including Tour de France champion Chris Froome, who finished eighth overall, 46 seconds behind Quintana.

Fallout 4 DLC Should Bring Peace to the Commonwealth

Fallout 4 DLC Should Bring Peace to the Commonwealth

Much of Fallout 4’s upcoming DLC seems to focus on combat and action.

image description

upcoming DLC seems to focus on combat and action. Could Bethesda take an entirely different route with expansion packs for the post-apocalyptic RPG?

Hot on the heels of the core game’s success, Bethesda is currently putting the finishing touches on downloadable content for Fallout 4 . The post-apocalyptic RPG is due to receive at least three DLC packs over the course of its lifespan, and fans of the title are excited to see exactly what the developer brings to the table. Already, Fallout aficionados are intrigued by the first content pack, which is titled Automatron and is due to be released on March 22, 2016.

Although Bethesda has been coy about some details surrounding the pack, the gaming community already has a fairly decent idea of what to expect. The first DLC forwill revolve around creating robotic companions, as well as taking down a new menace threatening The Commonwealth. A mysterious robot master known as The Mechanist is building a robot army and terrorizing the wasteland, and it looks like it is up to the player character to stop them.

As it stands, fans of the series seem to be excited about what the DLC pack has in store. Alongside another plot line to resolve, the addition of buildable companions is certainly an intriguing one. However, Automatron looks to be a combat-heavy addition to an already largely action-oriented game.

Fallout 4 Automatron DLC Achievements Revealed - Fallout 4 Automatron expansion

Fallout 4 Automatron DLC Achievements Revealed - Fallout 4 Automatron expansion

In fact, all of Fallout 4’s DLC plansto date seem to have a heavy combat focus. The Automatron pack looks to be focused around fighting more robotic opponents, whilst Wasteland Workshop is apparently framed around capturing enemies from the wasteland, and then either taming them or having them fight to the death. Meanwhile, May’s Far Harbor expansion is set to include Bethesda’s largest add-on mapto date, granting players an entire new location to explore, complete with new quests, settlements, and characters.

The action focus of the DLC is perhaps to be expected. After all, Bethesda put additional effort into improving the combat mechanics of Fallout 4 in comparison to its predecessors, with the game’s developers finding inspiration in Bungie’s multiplayer shooter Destiny . However, there is an untapped potential to Fallout 4 , and one which could perhaps have been improved upon through engaging add-on packs: bringing peace to the wasteland.

Fallout 4 1.4 Patch

Everything in Fallout 4 seems to be framed around this mission of bringing stability to the land – if, of course, the player chooses a more good-natured path over the chaotic one. Not only can the Sole Survivor develop trade routes and relationships with different well-intentioned groups in the Commonwealth, including The Minutemen and The Railroad, but there is also the potential to build settlements. In fact, this was one of the largest introductions to the world of Fallout through this iteration of the main series, with Bethesda promoting the mechanic heavilyin the run-up to the game’s release.

However, in spite of the addition of this feature to the title, settlement building has not quite reached the heights that many owners of the game possibly expected. Although there are plenty of building options to choose from, including pre-fabricated designs as well as huge custom-made buildings, a lot of the creation aspect of the title remains very much on the surface level. One of the criticisms often fired at Bethesdais that the developer creates huge, expansive worlds with very little soul, and that is perhaps best seen through the player’s own settlements in Fallout 4 .

The end goal of players who have focused their game around settlement building is often the notion of making the wasteland a safer place for its friendly inhabitants. However, there is a disappointing lack of a sense of progression when all is said and done. The player can improve as many settlements as possible, trying to reach that elusive Benevolent Leader trophy, but at the end of the day the wasteland is still likely to feel as dangerous as it did when the player began.

Of course, it’s understandable why Bethesda does not want the player to have too much of an impact on the world of Fallout 4 , aside from pre-designated moments in the game’s various branching plot lines. After all, if the wasteland is left entirely calm and peaceful, it doesn’t make for much continual play after the main plot has been completed. However, the futility of the player’s actions when it comes to building settlements to help others survive makes the exercise a little pointless – particularly when the Sole Survivor has answered each of Preston Garvey’s irritating settlement requests.

The addition of settlement building to Fallout was a great idea, and it really has the potential to change the way in which open world games of this nature operate. However, at the moment it feels a little like a wasted opportunity. Through the use of DLC, Bethesda could really make the settlement aspect of Fallout 4 into something that could be the envy of other games.

One way in which Bethesda could improve matters is by allowing the player greater freedom over where to build settlements in the wasteland, allowing the immediate ability to create and grow safe places for survivors throughout the Commonwealth. The empty voids left behind by player actions, such as conquests over bandit groups of mutant hangouts, have always been an issue with the modernseries, and the developer could do more to allow the player control over exactly how much of the wasteland can be made safe for its human population.

With greater player control, and perhaps even the ability to request aide from other peaceful groups in the Commonwealth to assist in the fight a la other RPGs such as, this could lead to the player being part of a real mission to make the wasteland safe. If the player so chooses, they could systematically drive out the bandits, ghouls, and mutant creatures that call the Commonwealth home, replacing dangerous areas with settlements that could farm and trade with each other. This could provide a strong end game for the player, after the more personal story of the main quest has been completed.

Ironically, Bethesda could also look to a spin-off of the Fallout franchise for assistance in this matter. Mobile title Fallout Shelter has proved to be incredibly popular, with the title addictively moreish as the player tries their best to improve matters in the Vault they control. This expansive nature is not quite as well implemented in Fallout 4 itself, and is something that could be improved with a sideways glance at this companion game.

At the end of the day, having a combat focus in Fallout is inevitable, and the gunplay of the title is perhaps the best in the series’ history. However, the developer could also look at other modes of gameplay to improve the Fallout 4 experience. Indeed, combining action with this long-term goal of wasteland peace could truly make even the most violent aspects of the game more rewarding, and turn the title into an even better experience for gamers.
