1,800-hp Lamborghini Huracán destroys 1/4 mile in 7.8 seconds: Video

A modified, but still street legal Lamborghini Huracán has practically flown through the quarter mile in just 7.807 seconds, a phenomenally fast run made possible thanks to a host of performance modifications.

The rocketship Lamborghini in question was modified by Underground Racing to the tune of 1,800 horsepower. The twin-turbo Huracán ripped up the quarter mile in 8.55 seconds a few weeks ago, Underground Racing says, but the addition of a 10-plate Dodson clutch allowed the company to boost its horsepower.

The video is simply breathtaking in its simplicity. It shows the light turning green and the red, stock-appearing Huracán bolting down a dragstrip. The driver launches it remarkably well given how much power is going to its wheels, though all-wheel drive certainly helps. It covers the quarter mile in less than 8 seconds with a trap speed of 187.8 mph, and you can hear a crowd cheering. The video ends with printed proof of the Huracán's feat.

Underground Racing offers a variety of Huracán upgrades, starting with an 800 horsepower modification with a two-year, 24,000-mile warranty, for $49,000. The video doesn't make it clear just what package is fitted to this particular Huracán, but we imagine a few tweaks will have it ready for public consumption soon enough. Pricing will likely be in the realm of buyers who can afford, well, a Huracán.
