Activision and Treyarch officially announce Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 ‘s second expansion pack known as Eclipse, revealing its contents and April release date.
Hot on the heels of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 ‘s first expansion known as the Awakening DLCcomes Eclipse, developers’ second offering of add-on materials for the wildly popular futuristic first-person shooter, which is set to release on April 12 for the PlayStation 4, with its availability for PC and Xbox One to follow. Of course, as most fans of the title are probably aware, Eclipse’s delay is due to Sony’s and Activision’s exclusive DLC partnership, making PlayStation fans privy to all of the game’s expansion content about a month before any other platform gets it.
Just like‘s gameplay materials for February’s Awakening, Eclipse is primed to contain four separate multiplayer maps, as well as a brand new Zombies map. The new areas for the title’s online multiplayer are called Spire, Rift, Knockout, and Verge, with Verge being a re-done version of the Bonzai map in World at War , and the new Zombies content is called Zetsubou No Shima.
As found below in Activision’s and Treyarch’s official descriptions for Black Ops 3 ‘s new multiplayer spots and Zombies materials in Eclipse, fans will be receiving what looks a bit like retreads of previous ideas from the franchise, as there’s another map in the sky and yet another military complex added. However, at least players can take solace in the fact that Zetsubou No Shima will be give them a continuation to Der Eisendrache’s story with the Origins characters in Zombies.
Spire : Spire takes Multiplayer combat to a futuristic sub-orbital airport terminal set high in the clouds. Multiple levels and open areas promote intense, mid-range combat around a clean, high-tech civilian environment. Watch your step, because one wrong move could send you plummeting back through the stratosphere. Rift : Head to the core of a harsh futuristic military complex, set high above an active caldera. Rift funnels and forces tight, intense engagements, where the only way through is forward. Utilize the unique core movement opportunities to outsmart and outplay enemies as you traverse the suspended rail system. Knockout : Housed in a traditional Shaolin Temple with a retro twist, Knockout sets the stage for a bloody Kung Fu tournament. This mid-sized map showcases a sharp contrast between the mid-range engagements of the traditional exterior architecture and the tight close-quarters of an eclectic 1970’s styled interior. Verge : In this re-imagination of the classic Call of Duty: World at War map, Banzai, Verge drops Multiplayer combat into the center of a distant post-apocalyptic future, where two warring factions are entrenched in constant battle. Take control of the key bridge, fortresses, tunnel systems and waterfalls as you engage in high-speed action through this medium-sized map Zetsubou No Shima : The Origins characters find themselves stranded on a remote Pacific island which is home to the Division 9 facility: a secret biological research lab whose experiments with Element 115 and its effects on human, animal, and plant biology has created horrors beyond belief. Zetsubou No Shima features a foliage rich island map including new terrifying zombie enemies, a variety of innovative transport mechanics, more devastating traps and classic Zombies side quests.For those interested in what’s planned on being offered above, Black Ops 3 fans can purchase Eclipse as a standalone product for $15, or go all-in on the rest of the title’s DLC in the Season Pass for $50. If folks consider themselves to be an avid player of the FPS and wish to keep up with all of the online content in order to remain a worthy competitor, the best decision would be to go with the latter offer, as it will save $10 in the long run.
While all Black Ops 3 fans will be receiving every piece of the DLC on current generation platforms, Activision recently announced the Awakening map pack’s PS3 release date, which could indicate Eclipse’s availability on Sony’s last-gen system. However, the publisher failed to mention Xbox 360 in the declaration, meaning that fans playing Black Ops 3 ‘s multiplayer on Microsoft’s older console could simply be stuck with the title’s base materials.
