An exclusive to PlayStation platforms, owners of LEGO Marvel’s Avengers can now download a free character pack DLC themed around the upcoming Civil War movie.
When LEGO Marvel’s Avengers launched in January it was announced that those who play the game on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 would receive free DLC. The first piece of DLC, the Captain America: Civil War Character Pack is available now.
The new LEGO Marvel’s Avengers Character Pack includes new and reskinned characters including: Agent 13 Black Panther Captain America Crossbones Falcon Iron Man (Mk 46) Scarlet Witch War Machine Winter Soldier
All the characters included are designed to look like their live action counterparts in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War movie being released May 5. This free download is also the console debut of Black Panther and Crossbones, as they have yet to appear in any console video game.
Missing from the lineup is Spider-Man, who just made his first big-screen debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the latest trailer released for Captain America: Civil War earlier this week.
It isn’t clear whether this DLC, which is free for all PlayStation 3 and 4 users who own the game, will ever come to PlayStation Vita, Xbox, Nintendo, or PC platforms. LEGO Marvel’s Avengers developer Traveller’s Tales could offer it in the future as paid DLC, but nothing has been announced.
There’s another DLC pack coming for free to PlayStation 3 and 4 in the future as well based on the Marvel movie Ant-Man . Similar to the Civil War Character Pack, the Ant-Man pack is set to feature new characters including Hank Pym and Scott Lang, as well as Ant-Thony, the flying ant from the film, along with various other characters from the movie.
However that DLC promises to also bring a new level along with the additional characters. Traveller’s Tales has been mum on details of the new level, but it will be based on the movie set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, not on the comic books. The DLC currently has no release date.
This new Civil War Character Pack should give some fans a reason to check out LEGO Marvel’s Avengers either again or for the first time. Released at the end of January, LEGO Marvel’s Avengers was one of February’s top selling games, proving that the LEGO brand of games is alive and well. However, our time with LEGO Marvel’s Avengers left something to be desired.
As for other games, LEGO Marvel’s Avengers isn’t the only game getting the Captain America: Civil War treatment. Just announced this month, Disney Infinity 3.0 will be getting the Marvel Battlegrounds Play Setthis year, heavily influenced by the Civil War movie.
LEGO Marvel’s Avengers is available now on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo systems.
