Ford Working on Two New Crossovers to Arrive by 2019

The American automaker is looking to capitalize on the increasing growth of the crossover segment and is launching five all-new or redesigned SUV and crossover vehicles across Europe in the next three years.

Fordis reportedly working on a pair of new compact crossover models, one based on the Fiesta and the other on the Focus.

The American automaker is looking to capitalize on the increasing growth of the crossover segment and is launching five all-new or redesigned SUV and crossover vehicles across Europe in the next three years. After making that announcement, it was speculated that Ford is developing two new crossover models based on the Fiesta and Focus compacts, meaning it will offer at least two compact crossovers within the next three years in hopes of capturing more market share.

Currently, Ford offers the Escape, Edge, Flex, Explorer and Expedition in the U.S. with the Escape being the smallest model. Considering the rise of compact crossovers in recent years, don’t be surprised to see Ford get smaller in its lineup with a model that would compete with vehicles like the Jeep Renegade and Fiat 500L. Although the plans were revealed for the European market, it is likely that at least one of the compact crossovers will be offered in the U.S.
