E3 2015: ‘Hyrule Warriors Legends’ Coming to 3DS

The crossover between two well-loved franchises in Nintendo’s Legend of Zelda and Tecmo Koei’s Dynasty Warriors , the Wii U exclusive managed to reach an impressive 1 million units soldby January 2015. Given the struggles Nintendo’s home console has had to grab a hold of the market, the title was without a doubt a great success.

was not only a vital lifeline for Nintendo, either. The battlefield-focused hack-and-slash title has also been seen as the saviour of the Dynasty Warriors line of games, bringing sales figures back up for the franchise. As such, Hyrule Warriors has already had a number of extensions to its lifespan through enticing DLC packages, whilst Tecmo Koei has already hinted at other Nintendo crossovers, including Mario and Pokemon .

It’s now certain that Hyrule Warriors is going to keep going and going. During an announcement at Nintendo’s E3 2015 Direct Digital Event, the publisher confirmed that Hyrule Warriors was also going to make its way onto handheld consoles via a 3DS port. This follows on from last week’s leak, where a trailer unveiling the 3DS version was accidentally released by Tecmo Koei.

The video confirmed the release of two characters from Gamecube classic The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker . Players will be able to choose to fight as Tetra and the King of Red Lions, with the latter taking a predominantly human form.

Meanwhile, Nintendo also gave some idea of how the title will work, with it seeming as though players will be able to switch between characters during battle, using the handheld device’s lower screen to tap between different heroes. As of yet, there are no details as to whether the title will be able to work in conjunction with the Wii U version, but Nintendo was able to give a release date of sorts: Hyrule Warriors Legends is set to be launched in the first quarter 2016 for the 3DS.
