Man City thrash Chelsea

Sergio Aguero fired a hat-trick to guide Manchester City to a 3-0 victory over defending champions Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

London: Just when Chelsea thought their catastrophic title defence could get no worse, this happens.

Sergio Aguero scored a hat-trick as Manchester City capped an excellent week by beating 10-man Chelsea 3-0 at Stamford Bridge to move ahead of Arsenal and into third place in the Premier League.

Aguero was acclaimed as "the best striker in the Premier League" by manager Manuel Pellegrini after his display. He took his season's league tally to 21 goals with strikes in the 32nd and 54th minutes and an 80th-minute penalty after Chelsea keeper Thibaut Courtois was sent off for upending Fernandinho.

The performance delighted City's manager Manuel Pellegrini, who said: "I am sure he is the best striker in the league, he makes a difference playing every game."

Equally influential in the victory was midfielder Kevin de Bruyne who produced the sort of performance that has left many questioning why Chelsea let their former midfielder leave without having had the chance to prove himself at Stamford Bridge.

The Belgian's return from injury has played a significant part in City's recent improved form and he was at the hub of most of their attacks, linking superbly with Aguero for the first two goals.

First De Bruyne broke from a Chelsea corner to allow the Argentine to cut inside and open the scoring. Then De Bruyne produced another telling thrust from his own half to again feed Aguero, via Samir Nasri, as City overwhelmed Chelsea with a series of clinical attacks.

Courtois's rash challenge on Fernandinho gave away the penalty which allowed Aguero, who had missed from the spot against PSG on Tuesday, to complete his hat-trick.

Defeat left Chelsea looking ahead to a new start under new manager Antonio Conte, who will join ahead of next season.

"Chelsea are (in) a difficult situation this season," outgoing boss Guus Hiddink said.

"Chelsea need to be in the first four places. We were knocking on the door but we didn't create open chances. They outplayed us on 60-70 yard counters."

Roar break Victory hearts with last-minute winner

Thomas Broich comes good to keep Brisbane Roar in the A-League finals and send Melbourne Victory crashing out.

PT1M30S 620 349

Do Brisbane Roar know how big they could be, or should be? Having survived another epic finals match, they've moved to within one game of a fourth grand final appearance in six seasons.

Melbourne Victory and Sydney FC like to claim they set the benchmarks, but they'd kill for a record like that. And yet the Roar remain largely on the fringe of the conversation, especially in their hometown where they're firmly entrenched in the shadows of the Broncos. Why?

Good football, good players, great success. But still the Roar, as a club, are only scratching at the surface of their potential.

Four owners in a decade - including Football Federation Australia in a caretaker capacity - hasn't helped. The acrimonious split with their founding fathers - the Dutch migrants who formed the club in 1958 (as Hollandia) - was particularly damaging.

Insecurity, insolvency and indifference have all plagued the Roar during the A-League era, but the team has managed to thrive regardless. The 36-game unbeaten record under Ange Postecoglou may never be broken. Good football, good players, great success. But still the Roar, as a club, are only scratching at the surface of their potential.

Some dismiss their travails as the price you pay for being in a rugby league town. No one disputes the Broncos are a commercial juggernaut, but let's get one thing clear. The football community in Brisbane is by far the biggest of any code, and - thanks to the British migrants who worked the coal mines of Ipswich in the 1880s - there's a long and proud history. And if you regard the Roar as Queensland's club, rather than simply Brisbane's, then the sky's the limit.

With more than 70,000 registered players across the state, only NSW has a bigger participation base.

King of the North: Jade North celebrates the win over Melbourne Victory.

We've seen that potential in three grand finals, when Suncorp Stadium has been filled to bursting. But from the highs there have been too many lows. Just nine months ago the owners - the Bakrie Group - put the club on the market. There were no takers, at least at the right price. During a tumultuous off-season players and coaches were unpaid, a long list of creditors lined up, there were threats of winding up orders, and coach John Aloisi spent half his time driving around Brisbane trying to bludge a training field.

And that's not the first time the club has teetered on the edge.

It's not unusual for an A-League club to have a near-death experience. The mystery is why Brisbane? A one-team town, a fantastic stadium, a huge community underneath, a record of sustained achievement.

Fanatical: Roar fans show their support during the A-League elimination final match between the Brisbane Roar and ...

Fanatical: Roar fans show their support during the A-League elimination final match between the Brisbane Roar and Melbourne Victory at Suncorp Stadium. Photo: Bradley Kanaris

And yet when the license was on the market less than 12 months ago - probably for a bargain-basement $10 million - it was effectively passed in at auction. Maybe, just maybe, that's going to prove to be a blessing in disguise.

The Bakrie Group - the Indonesian conglomerate which owns the Roar - found the money to keep the business going despite their own issues. Last year, the parent company was reportedly $8 billion in debt.

But the co-chairman, Nirwan Bakrie, has always been a football fanatic, and when push came to shove he decided to keep the Roar. Some claim Bakrie has never watched a Roar match. Others tell you his speciality is to watch from the stands, incognito. What we can say is he's used his money not only to pay off the creditors, but to invest in longer-term strategies like the new $9 million training complex planned for Logan. Finally, there seems to be hope.

"He [Nirwan Bakrie] has personal resources that he can use for his hobby of football," his Roar emissary, Demis Djamaoeddin, has been quoted as saying. That passion is admirable, and essential, but just as important is a masterplan to start capitalising on the Roar's enormous potential. There are signs that's happening at last.

In the meantime, Thomas Broich's dramatic late winner against Melbourne Victory confirmed a few salient points. That the German maestro isn't finished yet, that the Roar have a winning culture other clubs can only envy, that Aloisi has evolved impressively as a coach, that a fourth championship in six seasons is by no means out of the question and that Western Sydney Wanderers are on notice next weekend.

Brisbane Roar are a big club by any measure. Their challenge is to start believing it.

Supergiant Games has revealed its third project, Pyre.

pyre_reveal_screen_3

Pyre is the new game from Bastion and Transistor creators Supergiant. This is Supergiant’s third title, and it’s looking like a bit of departure from the studio’s usual character-based action.

Pyre is a party-based RPG set in a mystical purgatory. Supergiant’s brand of visual design and overall presentation is intact, however, having now been extended to a full cast of characters.

You control a group of exiles looking for absolution through a competition known as the Rites. Your actions control who gets to remain in exile and who returns home.

The game is due for release in 2017 on PC and PlayStation 4.

Watch the reveal trailer and early screens below. The trailer’s music is done by of Darren Korb and Ashley Barrett, whose work on the soundtracks of both Bastion and Transistor were among their most lauded aspects.

Microsoft’s “testing a variety” of new Xbox One prototypes – report
Tuesday, 19 April 2016 21:14 GMT By Stephany Nunneley
It appears Microsoft is testing a “variety of Xbox prototypes,” according to a new report.

Microsoft’s “testing a variety” of new Xbox One prototypes

Sources familiar with the matter told The Vergeprototypes being tested contain “upgraded components” similar to those which improve the “performance of a PC gaming rig.”

The report comes after FCC filings popped up last week suggesting Microsoft was possibly working on two new Xbox One models. One of which is assumed to be a slim model.

Since the FCC documents were discovered, the Brazilian equivalent of the FCC, Anatel, has posted an image of the new Xbox One wireless chipset mentioned in the FCC documents under NDA until June 25 (via NeoGAF).

The image shows chipset model 1683, and the FCC NDA expires the week after E3 2016, leading many to believe a new Xbox One model will be announced during Microsoft’s press conference.

With all the rumors swirling around PS4.5/PlayStation 4K, or codename Neo if you will, and now Xbox One, this could be a very interesting E3. If it’s all true.

Microsoft will host its E3 presentationat 9.30am PT/12.30pm ET/5.30pm UK.

The Division: how to get the best Gear Score

The Division: how to get the best Gear Score

The Division: how to get the best Gear Score
Tuesday, 19 April 2016 20:56 GMT By Matt Martin
There’s plenty of new Gear Sets, but how do you hit the max Gear Score?

The Division: how to get the best Gear Score

The Division changed last week, with the Incursions update adding a new Gear Score for those who have passed level 30 and completed the campaign.

Gear Score is now calculated using your armour and weapons. The higher the score on the armour or weapon, the higher your Gear Score.

Simple, in theory. But let’s break down how to get the best gear and the highest Gear Score.

How Gear Score works Incursions introduced Gear Sets, which give the player unique talents. But it’s important to remember that these Gear Set armour necessarily have the highest Gear Score. Wearing a particular item my cause your Gear Score to drop. Gear Score doesn’t directly affect the amount of damage you do. Gear Score allows you to access certain missions to be released at a later date, the Incursion Falcon Lost, and it decides the Dark Zone instance that you’ll enter when you go into the PvP area. The next free Incursion – Broken Circle – will require a Gear Score of 220. So there’s reason enough to get your numbers up.
How do you reach Gear Score 220 and 240?

the_division_gear_score_1

To get over the 200 barrier you need armour with a Gear Score of 214 to begin with, and your ultimate goal is getting armour with a Gear Score of 240. Completing an Incursion (Falcon Lost) for the first time in a week on Hard Mode guarantees you an item with a Gear Score of 214. That’s your first port of call. Every time you complete the Incursion the boss will drop an armour piece with a Gear Score of 191. You can complete the Incursion multiple times to farm those 191 items. Complete the Incursion on Challenge mode for the first time in a week and you’ll receive a guaranteed armour piece with a Gear Score of 240. This is the only way you’ll be able to get items with a Gear Score of 240. Every time you complete the Incursion on Challenge mode the boss will drop armour with a guaranteed Gear Score of 214. Again, you can farm these multiple times in a week. So Incursions Challenge mode is the only place for Gear Score 240 armour but it’s not the only place for Gear Score 214 items . Both the Dark Zone 06 safe room and the Base of Operations vendor will sell you blueprints for certain Gear Set items with a Gear Score of 214. The Dark Zone 06 vendor has the armour for the Path of the Nomad Gear Set. The BoO vendor stocks armour for Tactician’s Authority, Sentry’s Call and Striker’s Battlegear. There’s also a chance that named bosses in the Dark Zone and supply drops will drop Gear Set armour with a Gear Score of 214, but relying on luck isn’t really something to recommend. Some players have reported getting 214 gear Score armour from other Challenge mode bosses too, but again, that’s luck. If you want to be ready for the next Incursions which has a recommended Gear Score of 220, in total you’re going to need; 4 armour pieces with a Gear Score of 240, 2 armour pieces with a Gear Score of 214 and 2 weapons with a Gear Score of 204. That will give you a Gear Score of 222. Good luck!

Dark Souls 3’ Improves World Scale & Swordplay on Current-Gen

Dark Souls 3’ Improves World Scale & Swordplay on Current-Gen

‘Dark Souls 3’ Improves World Scale & Swordplay on Current-Gen
Heading into E3 2015 , there were a lot of surprises spoiled ahead of time.

image description

Destiny watched its next expansion leakin large pieces thanks to a Red Bull marketing campaign. A trademark for Mirror’s Edge 2 revealed that the game would be subtitled Catalyst . And leaked images and gameplayconfirmed that From Software was hard at work on Dark Souls 3 .

Nevertheless, the prospect of a third Dark Souls game so soon after From Software delivered Bloodborne left fans reasonably concerned, even more so considering the faults of Dark Soul 2 . Thankfully, we are happy to report from our hands-off preview of Dark Souls 3 that the game has been in the works for a while now, and Souls franchise creator Hidetaka Miyazaki is on-board as director.

As part of the Dark Souls 3 E3 2015 preview, Miyazaki walked Game Rant through his bullet point design inspirations for the sequel, in addition to showing off some gameplay. And by and large it sounds like Dark Souls 3 is exactly what fans are looking for – a new, yet familiar game that takes advantage of the modern power of today’s consoles.

Of the key pillars highlighted during the demo, the world scale and swordplay left the most lasting impressions. Without question this is the best looking Dark Souls 3 to-date, capturing the same dark fantasy tone, but with a greater sense of scope. This particular demo focused on a castle area that featured massive ramparts, dragon corpses, and was all fully rendered in real-time.

By Miyazaki’s own admission, the dark fantasy milieu has a greater draw for him, and it certainly shows. Few would call Dark Souls 2 ‘s world gorgeous in the traditional sense, but it sill looks very impressive. The amount of detail in the environments, the draw distance, and the way flecks of ash, pieces of cloth, or embers move is leaps and bounds ahead of anything in prior games.

Dark Souls 3 World Scale

Those embers and ash are particularly significant to Dark Souls 3 , whose big bad is called the Lord of Cinder. The Lord of Cinder is referenced in prior games, but apparently this giant sword-wielding knight is due for an awakening, and is ultimately at odds with the player character. Miyazaki didn’t say too much about the story, but Dark Souls fans know that’s M.O anyway. From Softwarelikes players to uncover the lore through item descriptions and careful analysis, which Dark Souls 3 supports in spades.

Finally, combat has been greatly improved for Dark Souls 2 , afforded players a greater selection of attacks depending on their weapons. The main focus of the E3 2015 presentation was the ‘Ready Stance’ (for swords), ‘Spin’ (for dual wielding), and ‘Lunge’ (for great swords), which act kind of like charge up attacks but can transition into a few different animations. Players are also much faster in Dark Souls 3 – an important change that seems to have been brought over from development on Bloodborne . As far as what other Bloodborne design elements made the jump to Dark Souls 3, Miyazaki wouldn’t say. After all, Sony owns the Bloodborne IP and it’s best not to insinuate any ideas were taken from that franchise.

At the end of the day, though, this was still a very innately Dark Souls product on display. From the visuals, to the combat, to the extreme difficulty, everything that fans have come to expect from the franchise has been brought to PS4 and Xbox One with only slight tweaks. And most of those tweaks seem to be in service of making Dark Souls 3 a better playing game, but not necessarily an easier one. Miyazaki and his translator referenced the series’ trademark challenge several times throughout the demo, presumably to assure fans that they aren’t deviating too far from their formula. For our part, Dark Souls 3 looks like the game fans want, led by the man who gives the franchise its personality. We can’t wait to play…and die…in the world of Dark Souls 3 .

Don’t Rage Quit: Challenging Games and Permadeath are Making a Comeback

Don’t Rage Quit: Challenging Games and Permadeath are Making a Comeback

There are tons of reasons to play video games—for the story, for the graphics, for the immersion, or for the challenge.

Difficult Games Header Difficult Games HeaderDark Souls ushered in a new era of difficult games with punishing gameplay and a serious sense of accomplishment. Screenshot from jit via Flickr.

There are tons of reasons to play video games—for the story, for the graphics, for the immersion, or for the challenge. For a while, it seemed that challenging games were falling by the wayside in favor of easier games that appeal to a wider demographic. A gap emerged between serious gamers and casual gamers, who didn’t want to deal with repeated failures to attain story achievements.

Some developers have tried to bridge this gap with customizable difficulty settings, and others are firmly catering to one camp or the other. Lately, we’re seeing a resurgence in challenging games that use permadeath and other old-school arcade techniques—sure to satisfy gluttons for punishment in the gaming community.

Roguelike Games Bring Back the Challenges of the Arcade Era

Roguelike games are procedurally-generated games that employ permadeath, a mechanic that means once you die, you’re dead for good and must restart at the beginning. Some of the top-reviewed games on Steam are roguelikes, with three of the most popular being Crypt of the Necrodancer , The Binding of Isaac , and Don’t Starve . For players of these three challenging games, the gratification comes from how far you can get, rather than actually beating the game—although beating these games is certainly an achievement to be proud of.

So what’s the appeal of this kind of punishing gameplay? Aside from the challenge itself, roguelikes can be played in short bursts because it’s difficult to get very far in one sitting. They’re ideal for people who have twenty or thirty minutes to kill, though they can also be incredibly addictive as you struggle to surpass your longest run. Roguelikes can also be ideal games to play in group settings, inspiring plenty of competitive bouts and laughs at your best friend’s losing face.

Crypt of the Necrodancer combines roguelike and rhythm mechanics for a truly difficult game experience.

These kinds of games hearken back to the arcades of many a gamer’s youth, when hours of playtime required at least one roll of quarters. Old arcade games were about skill, not story. There’s certainly some nostalgia at work in the appeal of these newer challenging games. Being the first in your friend group to earn an achievement in Spelunky is no less satisfying than when you were the first to enter your initials on the high-score board at the local arcade.

Dark Souls Punishes and Rewards Players in Equal Measure

But roguelikes and arcade-style games aren’t the only ones employing difficulty as a selling point. It’s impossible to talk about punishing gameplay without mentioning From Software, the creators of Demon Souls and its spiritual successors Dark Souls and Dark Souls II . These are games that drop you into the world with little instruction. Sure, they’ll walk you through a brief tutorial of how to swing your weapon, but beyond that you’re on your own. The story is murky, the world dark and unforgiving, and the gameplay is much the same.

Dark Souls II sets the standard for difficult games, but players love the high-risk, high-reward system.

While roguelikes appeal to fans of arcade games and nostalgia, games like Dark Souls are a little different. People who have grown up with video games frequently grow bored of the often-derivative and repetitive nature of popular arcade series. While there are always permadeath runs and player-created challenges, replaying your favorite game with an extra step of difficulty isn’t always what you want. That’s where games like Dark Souls come in, targeting dedicated adult gamers who won’t be swayed by the dismal atmosphere, challenging gameplay, and lack of hand-holding.

Challenging Games Reward Dedication

Games like Dark Souls aren’t inherently better than easy games, and there should always be a place for casual gamers in the market, but the demand for challenging games appears to be growing, not shrinking.

Fortunately, many developers are rising to meet that demand. From Software’s Bloodborne is slated for release this year, bringing the difficulty of their previous games to a new setting. Titan Souls , originally developed for Ludum Dare 28 with a free prototype online, is a highly anticipated indie game that’s similar to Shadow of the Colossus —if Shadow had only given you one arrow and one hit point.

The repeated failure and constant frustration of challenging games isn’t for everyone, but dedicated gamers can rest a bit easier knowing there are plenty of new permadeaths and forehead slaps awaiting them in their gaming future.

Bloodborne’ First Impressions

Bloodborne’ First Impressions

‘Bloodborne’ First Impressions
As a genuine spiritual successor to From Software’s Demon Souls and Dark Souls games, Bloodborne is every bit a more polished version of those extremely difficult action RPGs.

image description

[Before reading our Impressions Post please watch our Bloodborne Let’s Play Videofor a closer look at the game’s mechanics and systems]

Many games are actively referred to as spiritual successors, but most wear the banner with some qualification. Bloodborne , however, is as true to the moniker as can be expected.

is every bit a more polished version of those extremely difficult action RPGs. Moreover, based on our early time with the game (about 15 hours or so), Bloodborne is seemingly what fans want when they say Dark Souls / Demon Souls sequel, even if it doesn’t actually carry the series’ name.

With that comes a game that is every bit as challenging as its predecessors, and therefore very demanding of its players. Like Dark Souls , Bloodborne is all about trial and error, patience, and a fair bit of luck. In other words, expect to die a lot.

That challenge is part and parcel with the experience of Bloodborne , though, and is more a call to do better than a discouragement. Because the mechanics of the game are more refined here the feelings of frustration are far less frequent. In most cases, when an enemy takes the player character out it’s a result of their own mistakes – either being too reckless or not reacting fast enough.

Mechanically, Bloodborne features a set-up that should be plenty familiar to Souls fans. Attacks come in the light and heavy variety, with an added charge up move for extra damage. Players can also dodge out of the way of enemy attacks, which is a more important mechanic this time around. Because Bloodborne is a slightly faster paced experience, dodging is essential. Blocking and feeling out an enemy’s movement patterns may have been a big part of past games, but Bloodborne forces the player out of their comfort zone. Sitting back is still encouraged, but now the risks when diving in are greater.

To help combat those risks, Bloodborne introduces a slew of weapons that fit a variety of situations. Dubbed “trick” weapons, these blades, axes, spears, etc. are capable of transforming from short range to long range with the press of a button. So rather than forcing players to lock into one specific type of attack, they can alternate between the two: fast strikes for quicker enemies, and longer deliberate hits for the big foes.

Along with the transforming weapons, Bloodborne adds guns to the mix for yet another gameplay wrinkle. Where players would typically brandish a shield in their off hand, these handguns and shotguns will serve as a type of staggering mechanic, knocking enemies out of their attack animations and freeing them up for a few quick jabs. It will take time for players to adjust to the guns’ role as support tools, but once players learn their utility the guns become essential. Where shields would save the day in the past, a well-timed shotgun blast can mean the difference between life and death.

Packaged altogether, the combat in Bloodborne is faster, more varied, and much tighter. A key complaint from the Souls games was their lack of fluidity, but here the options and animations are far less rigid. In some ways Bloodborne even feels like a character action game, but it has not abandoned its trademark deliberate approach. Every swing must be carefully considered, and no enemy should be underestimated. But even then players should expect to die…a lot.

While the combat may have a slightly faster pace bolstered by weapon variety, it’s impossible to mistake that trademark Dark Souls feel. It starts with the difficulty curve, but extends throughout Bloodborne ’s DNA. For starters, Bloodborne uses a HUB world, called the Hunter’s Dream, for all of players upgrading and item buying needs. Think of it like the Nexus from Demon Souls, only without the NPCs. From the Hunter’s Dream players can travel to any unlocked lanterns (Bloodborne’s version of bonfires) within the delightfully macabre Yharnam. Each of these lanterns serve as checkpoints, but are far scarcer than Dark Souls’ bonfires. Rather, the game uses shortcuts and new pathways to give players a sense of progression. So where getting to a lantern may be a big sigh of relief, even just opening a previously locked door feels like a tiny victory.

Currency and upgrading is also handled in the prototypical Souls fashion, only Bloodborne refers to its “money” as Blood Echoes instead of Souls. Blood Echoes are absorbed upon every enemy defeat, and can be used in any number of ways. Every way, actually. Blood echoes upgrade the player character’s stats, which are thankfully pared down to only 6 categories (vitality, endurance, strength, skill, bloodtinge, arcane), and are also spent on healing items (Estus Flasks are now Blood Vials), new armor, and better weapons. Even though they are extremely important to upgrading the player, Blood Echoes are a completely disposable currency, left behind at every death. Upon resurrection (at the nearest lit lantern), the player is free to reclaim their Blood Echoes but not without surviving the respawned enemies once again. Even worse, in Bloodborne now nearby enemies can absorb the fallen player’s Blood Echoes, thereby forcing him or her to defeat the foe and reclaim the Echoes.

From my first 15 hours with the game, Bloodborne has shown little technical fault, and runs at a consistent 30fps frame rate. The demonic touches mix well with the gothic and paint this sinister Van Helsing concept. Enemies are varied in design, and plenty are appropriately gruesome. There isn’t much of a story so far, but the world still feels rich with detail; players will just have to pick up or intuit those details as they go.

The only major gripe to be head with the game thus far is the loading times. At every transition – either when traveling between the Hunter’s Dream or upon death – the game takes close to a minute to load. Yes, there is certainly a way to optimize this, but right now the load times are a bit of a nuisance. Bloodborne is all about learning from death, and while some deaths may feel cheap (check every corner!) the load times only add insult to injury. It’s not enough to completely turn players off, but is no less disappointing.

The Hunter’s Dream lets players travel between lanterns.

As a fan of Dark Souls and Demon Souls , it was easy to fall back into old practices with Bloodborne . The feel of the familiar is unmistakable in nearly every aspect of From Software’s PS4 exclusive, but the new console has helped the developer make a sharper looking and better playing iteration. The new elements enrich and improve the experience, without drastically changing its identity.

Even so, those who are looking for something different from Dark Souls will likely come away disappointed by Bloodborne . This is a game for that same crowd: who love the challenge that those games present but were perhaps hoping for a new setting and some slight gameplay tweaks. In that regard, From Software has delivered in spades. Bloodborne is addictive, thrilling, and punishing in a good way, but more importantly during our 15 hours it has been a game that’s hard to shake.

Are you looking forward to Bloodborne ? What has been your overall impression of the game?

Bloodborne releases March 24, 2015 for PS4. Game Rant was provided a PS4 copy for review purposes.

Fornaroli scores a classic

Melbourne City's Bruno Fornaroli scores one of the goals of the season against Perth Glory

PT0M27S 620 349

In his first professional season in his home nation of Uruguay, Bruno Fornaroli scored an overhead kick goal.

Back then he was with the Montevideo-based club Nacional. On Sunday night in the A League elimination final, Fornaroli did it again with his 40th minute bicycle kick putting Melbourne City up 1-0 en route to a 2-0 win over Perth Glory at AAMI Park.

Fornaroli followed up with a curling free kick in the 76th minute to seal the result and make it 25 goals for the campaign.

He said such goals were rare and had to be celebrated.

"I try every time and this [goal] is coming, if you have the confidence maybe something like this happen," Fornaroli said.

"One time in Nacional in Montevideo my first season I also scored [a goal] like this.

"When the ball came [into the box] you think 'alright maybe this is the moment'."

Fornaroli said he had struck his free kicks well over the past week.

"Aaron Mooy is the best free kick [taker] but this last week at training I take them with Aaron and I say if there is one I will try [it]," Fornaroli said.

"That gave me the confidence and luckily it went in."

Mooy said Fornaroli continued to amaze his teammates.

"Stuff like that gives the team a big boost, it just changes the game in a moment," Mooy said. "I was as shocked as everyone else when he did that."

Perth Glory coach Kenny Lowe said City were the better side on the night and his side didn't rise to meet them.

Lowe questioned whether Fornaroli's bicycle kick should have counted, considering his boot connected with the head of Glory defender Krisztian Vadocz on his follow through.

"We've had two like it this year, we had one at Western Sydney and one here," Lowe said. "I don't want to harp on about that, they were the better team and they deserved it.

"But irrespective of what [happened] he has kicked someone in the head and he has scored but it was there for him to go for and I'd be disappointed if my centre-forward had that chance and hadn't gone for it."

City coach John van 't Schip praised the defence and commitment of his side, along with Fornaroli's goals.

He also said Socceroos right back Ivan Franjic, who was withdrawn on game day with a hamstring injury, faced a race against time to be fit.

"We don't know yet, we have to see how this week goes," van 't Schip said. "He got a bit stiff at training on Friday and he couldn't play.

"It will be a race to get him [Franjic] ready for [this] Friday."

Melbourne City play Adelaide United at Coopers Stadium on Friday at 7.35pm.

New Ratchet & Clank Trailer Highlights the Stunning Remake

New Ratchet & Clank Trailer Highlights the Stunning Remake

A brand new, gorgeous trailer for the upcoming Ratchet & Clank remake game for the PlayStation 4 drops during Sony’s press conference at Paris Games Week.

image description

Sony certainly came out swinging during their Paris Games Week press conferencetoday, bombarding PlayStation 4 fans with numerous trailers for a number of upcoming PS4 exclusives. Out of all the trailers released by Sony today, however, perhaps the most impressive looking was the one for the upcoming remake of Ratchet & Clank .

The newesttrailer shines a light on the game’s jaw-dropping visuals, while also revealing numerous gameplay sequences that were not found in the original game. This includes an explosive spaceship battle, new platforming sections for Clank, new boss fights, and more.

See the epic Ratchet & Clank trailer right here:

The new Ratchet & Clank game is meant to serve as a reboot of sorts for the franchise, which will align the video game universe with the story of the upcoming Ratchet & Clank movie. This is evident in the game trailer by Clank referring to the “Rangers,” a group of heroes that Ratchet idolizes in the film, but who didn’t appear in the games until Up Your Arsenal .

While it’s clear that Insomniac’s intent is to align the video game world with the one depicted in the film, there seems to be a slight contradiction present in this latest game trailer, involving Captain Qwark. The first trailer for the Ratchet & Clank moviedepicted a somewhat competent Captain Qwark, who appeared to be a legitimate hero.

Ratchet and Clank Remake Snagglebeast

If the trailer is any indication, it looks as though the Ratchet & Clank remake delayhas paid off quite considerably. The game looks even better than it did in its initial gameplay trailer, and this latest trailer has us incredibly excited to get our hands on the final product. Sony stopped short of announcing when exactly that would be, but one would imagine that the game will release around the same time as the film, which will premiere in theaters on April 29th, 2016.

Are you impressed by the latest trailer for the Ratchet & Clank remake on the PlayStation 4? Will you be picking up the game when it releases next year? Discuss the Ratchet & Clank remake in the comments below.

The Ratchet & Clank remake is scheduled to release in spring of 2016, exclusively for the PlayStation 4.

Leicester snatch late draw

An equaliser with the final kick of the game earns Leicester a point against West Ham.

PT1M31S 620 349

London: Leicester City stumbled on their march towards the Premier League title by dropping two points in a 2-2 draw with West Ham United despite a last-minute equaliser from Leonardo Ulloa at the King Power Stadium on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp made 10 changes from the team that beat Borussia Dortmund in the Europa League and watched his experimental side overcome Bournemouth 2-1 in a low-key game in the south coast sunshine.

At The Emirates Stadium, Arsenal had to settle for a 1-1 draw to Crystal Palace after Yannick Bolasie struck a late goal to leave Arsene Wenger's side looking over their shoulders in the race for a top four place.

But all eyes were on Leicester as they finished the match with 10 men after goalscorer Jamie Vardy was sent off early in the second half for a second yellow card.

Leicester coach Claudio Ranieri praised his side for saving a point, which put them eight clear of second-placed Tottenham Hotspur with four matches to play.

Spurs' match in hand is at Stoke City on Monday and if they win that they will narrow Leicester's lead to five points.

Andy Carroll continued his push for an England place, scoring West Ham's first goal against Leicester.

"The sending-off changed the whole match, but I judge my players, not the referee," Ranieri said without commenting on the red card.

"This was our soul, we play every match with blood, heart and soul, it was magnificent," added the Italian, whose team had won their last five games to close on their first English top-flight title.

West Ham almost scored in the second minute when Leicester keeper Kasper Schmeichel saved a header from Cheikhou Kouyate, tipping the ball on to his left-hand post before it rolled across the line and hit the other upright.

Vardy put Leicester ahead after a lightning counter-attack in the 18th minute with a left-foot shot into the corner of the net before picking up his first booking for a late challenge on Kouyate.

His second yellow came early in the second half when referee Jon Moss ruled he dived looking for a foul and the match gradually swung West Ham's way.

They equalised through an 84th-minute Andy Carroll penalty after Wes Morgan hauled down Winston Reid and looked to have won the game two minutes later when Aaron Cresswell scored a stunning goal with a fierce shot from the edge of the box which dipped and swerved as it flew past Schmeichel.

But with only seconds of stoppage time remaining Leicester equalised when Ulloa scored from the spot after Carroll fouled Jeffrey Schlupp.

At Bournemouth, both Liverpool goals came at the end of the first half, Roberto Firmino ending a superb move with a close range tap-in after 41 minutes before Daniel Sturridge made it 2-0 with a header from a Jordan Ibe free kick.

Bournemouth replied in stoppage time when Josh King half-volleyed in from the edge of the box.

Before the kick-off flowers were laid on the pitch in memory of the Liverpool 96 fans who died at Hillsborough in April 1989 with the club's anthem You'll Never Walk Alone played as the short ceremony took place.

At The Emirates Stadium, Alexis Sanchez put the hosts ahead when he nodded home Danny Welbeck's delightful dinked ball just before halftime but Bolasie equalised with a low drive from the edge of area that beat Petr Cech at his near post in the 82nd minute.

Arsenal dominated possession with Sanchez and Mesut Ozil close to scoring from free kicks, while the Germany midfielder was denied from point-blank range by visiting goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey just before the Chile forward opened the scoring.

Bolasie's leveller shook the fourth-placed home side and they were almost caught out again in stoppage time when only a last-ditch tackle from Gabriel Paulista stopped dangerous winger Wilfried Zaha in his tracks as he burst into the area.

Trailers for PS3’s ‘Puppeteer’ and ‘Until Dawn’ are Creepy

Trailers for PS3’s ‘Puppeteer’ and ‘Until Dawn’ are Creepy

Gamescom has proven to be one of the biggest events of the entire year for gaming news, but a majority of the credit can be taken by Sony for that. The PlayStation 3/Vita manufacturer has been hard at work on recruiting top-tier talent to work on exclusive content for their consoles. Be it Media Molecule’sor the latest character reveals for Battle Royale , PlayStation users have a lot to look forward to.

With all of this major news, however, some of the smaller announcements are bound to get lost in the shuffle. Lesser known titles are easily overlooked in the wealth of information currently pouring out of Germany, and the PS3 exclusives Puppeteer and Until Dawn are two more prime examples. Each game has its own respective niche that’ll draw in a wide audience of gamers. Whether it’s horror or a puppet-themed adventure, PlayStation will provide fans with some very unique content in the coming months.

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0GECUR5Wgyc

Japan Studios may already be hard at work on the downloadable rain for PS3, but that hasn’t stopped them from trying their hand at yet another exclusive for Sony’s home console. Puppeteer stars a young boy by the name of Kutaro, who is kidnapped by the evil “Moon Bear King” and turned into a puppet. Whilst in this form, Kutaro’s head is consumed by the horrendously named tyrant, and his body is thrown away. Headless and out for revenge, the boy comes across a pair of magical scissors that can help him even the score with MBK, get his head back, and return home.

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rOiSosEiNyE&list

Both of these games each have their own niche, and should end up being enjoyable. Puppeteer looks like it has the potential to be one of the best platformers of 2013, and we can’t wait to see how the final product turns out. Until Dawn also has the potential to be something special, and we’ll keep our fingers crossed that it capitalizes on the underutilized PS Move technology.

Puppeteer and Until Dawn will both be available at some point in 2013, exclusively on the PS3.

Destiny’s Chroma shaders: how to get them and how they work

Destiny’shas brought with it Chroma, a new colour shader used on compatible weapons and armour. The new Spektar armour can use it, as can many of the revamped weapons included in the update.

How to get Chroma

Chroma comes from Sterling Treasure, a new consumable item brought into Destiny by the April Update. Every Sterling Treasure box you open can contain Chroma, Spektar armour and the Taken-styled Desolate armour in an combination. This is the only way you can get Chroma right now.

Visiting the Postmaster every week. Completing a level 41 Prison of Elders run every week. Completing a match in the weekly Crucible playlist. Paying 200 Silver at the Eververse vendor in the Tower.

How to use Chroma

To use Chroma, you must first have items with which it’s compatible. The second icon along on the item’s talent tree will show you which colour the item will currently accept. If you have the corresponding Chroma in your inventory, just click on the icon and the item will become shaded.

13029495_10153389339556020_7301129646267221128_o

You can change the colour of the Chroma the item will accept by simply clicking on the cross below the Chroma icon. This will randomly assign a new colour for 100 Glimmer (Chroma comes in four colours: red, yellow, blue and white). Be warned: if you have an equipped Chroma, resetting the colour will destroy it.

Uncharted 4 Multiplayer Beta Begins in December

Uncharted 4 Multiplayer Beta Begins in December

It used to be a rarity on consoles, but now multiplayer betas are all the rage.

image description

It used to be a rarity on consoles, but now multiplayer betas are all the rage. It seems every shooter has a multiplayer beta of some sort, with Call of Duty even throwing its hat in the beta ring with the successful Black Ops 3 multiplayer betathat ran a few weeks ago. It’s practically a given now that any major shooter is going to have a multiplayer beta, and that’s true for the upcoming Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End as well.

will have a multiplayer betathat will be accessible by purchasing Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection in October. Now, thanks to a new trailer for The Nathan Drake Collection , we know when exactly the Uncharted 4 multiplayer beta will take place.

As revealed at the end of the new trailer for The Nathan Drake Collection , the multiplayer beta for Uncharted 4 will run from December 4th to December 13th. We’re not sure of any of the maps, weapons, characters, or match types players will be able to enjoy in the beta, so there’s still a lot of unknowns, but at least we know when we will actually be able to access the beta now.

As stated previously, those that want to play the beta for Uncharted 4 will need to purchase Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection . A PlayStation Plus membership is also required to enjoy the beta, so keep that in mind.

The new trailer for Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection , which reveals the beta dates at the very end, can be seen below. It does have a pretty heavy amount of spoilers for the first three games in the series, as it is meant more for people that have already played the games on PS3 and are looking to reexperience Nathan Drake’s original adventures before they play through Drake’s last adventurein 2016, as opposed to those that are discovering Uncharted for the first time. Watch the new trailer right here:

This new trailer for The Nathan Drake Collection shows off the games’ improved visuals even more, reaffirming that it’s not just lazy ports like some collections have been in the past. It’s awesome seeing these already beautiful games all run at a gorgeous 60 frames per second, and it makes us even more excited to see more of Uncharted 4 , which is sure to look truly incredible if The Nathan Drake Collection is any indication.

Along with the improved graphics, The Nathan Drake Collection is also adding a new difficulty as well as new game modes. It’s unfortunately dropping the multiplayer component that was found in Uncharted 2 and Uncharted 3 , but the other improvements still seem to make it worth the upgrade.

Will you be picking up Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection and participating in the Uncharted 4 multiplayer beta? Let us know in the comments.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End will release March 18th, 2016, exclusively on the PlayStation 4. Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection , which is required to get into the beta, will be available for PS4 starting October 9th.

Destiny’snew sparrow, the Velumbra, is easy to get. Here’s how.

. Go see Variks in the Reef and you’ll be given a step called Pretender to the Throne. This is just a short mission, another step in which you kill Taken, and then the completion of Blighted Chalice, the new strike.

On returning to Variks you’ll be given the Dreadfang Taken swordat 320 damage. Now go over to Petra and receive a new quest step.

Go to the Court of Oryx on the Dreadnaught. All you have to do to complete the quest is kill six bosses in the Court. Just use up your stock of Reciprocal Runes.

Return to Petra. She’ll give you the Velumbra.

What is the Velumbra and what can it do?

The Velumbra is a PlayStation-exclusive sparrow bike, so you won’t be able to get this if you’re playing on Xbox.

Stats-wise, it’s comparable to the other legendary sparrows in Destiny, but the Velumbra comes with some cool stunt controls. If you hold R2 while airborne you can roll to the left and right with the left stick. You can also dart to the left and right with L1 or L3 and R1 or R3.

Finally, you can hold down L2 as well as R2 for a speed boost. Some of the other sparrows have a risk of exploding if you do this, but that doesn’t seem to be the case with the Velumbra, such is its majesty.

The Velumbra also makes a pretty cool noise when you’re whizzing along. For this alone it’s worth completing the quest to get it.

Destiny: the best locations for Gunsmith Field Tests

Destiny: the best locations for Gunsmith Field Tests

Bag a high Light-level weapon every second week by speeding through the field tests on Armsday.

Destiny_20160418131423

Destiny: the best locations for Gunsmith Field Tests

With Destiny update 2.2.0, faction packages have become much more lucrative, including those from Banshee-44 – aka the Gunsmith – in the Tower. In addition to his Foundry Orders, that take a week to arrive, Guardians chasing Light 335 have more reason to head out with prototype weapons to boost reputation. One sure-fire way of boosting that base line is by cashing in these ‘bounties’, so that you might immediately secure a new weapon that’s up to five Light levels above your Guardian.

Armsday, which is when the Gunsmith inventory resets, starts every Wednesday at 2:00 AM PDT (9:00 AM GMT). Below are by far the fastest ways we’ve learned to complete all the field tests.

Destiny_20160418130442

Use Against Cabal Targets (e.g. Häkke Test-A Auto Rifle)

Obviously Mars would be the place to go for this, however there are two places on the Dreadnaught that serve Cabal soldiers on a plate: Hull Breach and inside the Dantalion Exodus VI. The latter also has a generous supply of high ranking (yellow bar) enemies should the field tests also include these as an objective for another weapon. Otherwise the slopes of the Hull Breach are the most efficient.

Use Against Hive Targets (e.g. Suros TSP-10 Pulse Rifle)

Again, it’s the Dreadnaught that provides the most immediate set of targets upon arrival at the Hull Breach. They’re often involved in shoot outs with the neighbouring Cabal, the distraction making them easier targets. If you’d like to make more of the visit, the Court of Oryx has many Hive-related bosses to fight plus minions, just don’t let the team down with your low-powered shenanigans!

20160419091801

Use Against Fallen Targets (e.g. Häkke Test-A Auto Rifle)

Go to the Cosmodrome and The Divide where waves of Fallen enemies are in plentiful supply. You do end up chasing them around, however, so a good alternative is The Ember Caves on Venus where they are more tightly packed. Handy if your other objectives are Venus-based too.

Use Against Vex Targets (e.g. Omolon Test HC1)

Venus and The Citadel is certainly the hottest location for this, where Vex Harpy and Goblins are one-shot kills if you land precision shots.

Use Against Vex Minotaur (e.g. Omolon Test FR1 Fusion Rifle)

The Citadel on Venus is always busy with Guardians chasing Gunsmith rep, which is a downside of heading here to clean up on Vex Minotaur and rocketing high-ranking enemies. The speediest way to The Citadel is to head left upon arrival, via the Ember Caves area (veer right when passing through). Two yellow bar Axis Minotaur patrol the platform at the back of the map, and below to their right two regular Minotaur and one Axis Minotaur regularly emerge from an alcove.

Use Against Cabal Centurions (e.g. Häkke Test-A Sniper Rifle)

Head to the Breach in the Dreadnaught, where several Cabal Centurions spawn at the bottom of the slope and near the entrance of the Cabal ship. You don’t even need to leave the spot that you arrive, just hop onto a vantage point overlooking the whole area and this field test is carried out fast.

Use Against High Ranking Enemies (e.g. Suros TSR-10 Rocket Launcher)

This one crops up quite regularly, and usually we head straight over to The Citadel on Venus to clean up asap. As mentioned earlier, however, this area can be hotly contested, so comparatively little known alternatives include inside the Dantelion Exodus VI on the Dreadnaught, to double-up on other field test objectives, or The Steppes on the Cosmodrome where Hive Majors spawn below the hut to the left of where your Guardian arrives, next to the rocks with the Fallen Dregs and Shanks.

Use Against Fallen Captains (e.g. Omolon Test RR1 Sniper Rifle)

On the edge of the Moth Yard, just before heading into Sky Watch, there are two Fallen Captains that spawn within seconds of each other once defeated. The most obvious one is standing outside the door to Sky Watch, flanked by two Vandals. Kill him and his cohorts then head down the side of the cliff to a cave, almost directly below at the foot of the slope, where the other Fallen Captain is found together with three Dregs. Kill them all to make sure they re-spawn much faster.

Score Double Kills/Make Precision Shots (e.g. Häkke Test-A Sniper Rifle/Pulse Rifle)

Anywhere will do, but the least time consuming is during the Siege of the Warmind mission and the corridor checkpoint. Hive Thrall rush your position at the entrance, just take out the Boomer Knights first to keep your aim steady. This same location is ideal for performing precision kills too because it is all on the level. The waves of weak Thrall arrive in single file to mow down without a hitch.

Get Kills in the Crucible (e.g. Omolon Test FR1, Omolon Test RR1, Häkke Test-A Shotgun)

The best playlist is Control, where Guardians are crowded in one area, and we like Twilight Gap for just about all the field test objectives. Its corridors are tight enough for shotgun kills, and there’s great line of sight from Point B to where the heavy ammo drops near Point C. It’s kind of boring, but everyone gets at least a few good kills from one side or the other. A fusion rifle can clear an objective point very quickly too if you get the drop on some noobs.

General Advice

Chances are you’ll run into other Guardians at the key locations. If this happens, return to orbit and launch back down to have the area to yourself… fingers crossed. Double up on field test objectives to get the most out of each location. The high-ranking enemy using rocket-launcher is one that you can always save time on. Each field test is worth 250 EXP, meaning you’ll only level up with the Gunsmith every second week, but for the effort it takes the rewards are worth it; we landed a superb Light 327 Eirene RR3 sniper rifle in week one of the April Update.

Happy hunting!

Free PlayStation Plus Games for July 2015 Revealed

It’s the start of a new month, which means it’s time for Sony and Microsoft to reveal the new selection of “free” games that both PlayStation Plus and Xbox Live subscribers can get their hands on. Of course, this also means that the previous month’s offeringsare no longer up for grabs, but surely a month is more than enough time to decide which of the games (if any) are worth checking out?

The free PlayStation Plusgames have always varied in quality, and included a wide range of genres, but depending on what type of gamer a person is, some months may be more underwhelming than others. Sony tends to dish out a mixture of big-budget games with smaller, indie titles, however, so that everyone has something to play. In June, for example, games likeand Call of Juarez: Gunslinger were offered alongside Skulls of the Shogun and Cloudberry Kingdom . As one may have guessed, those four games are wildly different from each other.

For the month of July, the PS Plus games Sony revealed todayare of the mid-tier variety, but they’re games that continue to be interesting. Those hoping for a couple of big games that rival the ones previously mentioned might be a bit disappointed, though. If anything, July’s free games will be closer to May’s selection.

PlayStation Plus Games for July 2015

Starting with the games that will be playable on the PS4 come July 7, 2015, we have Rocket League , Styx: Master of Shadows , Mousecraft and Entwined . Rocket League offers a unique take on “put ball into goal to score” by replacing humanoid players with rocket-powered vehicles capable of pulling off “insane stunts.” Styx: Master of Shadows belongs to the fantasy stealth genre, and is sure to be more than enough to hold people over untilor.

For the PS3, it’s the mysterious and sure-to-be-heartbreaking game known as rain , which sees a young, invisible boy chasing after an invisible girl through a town being pelted with rain. Over on the Vita, it’s the latest in the popular Geometry Wars series, Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions Evolved . Fans of the series should already know what the series is all about, and Dimensions Evolved takes things up a notch to become the most chaotic entry so far.

All of the game detailed above will be available to download starting on July 7, 2015. They’ll be around until the end of the month, but better to grab then as soon as possible, rather than waiting.

Do you see yourself trying out any of the upcoming free games?

Dark Souls 3 boss: Soul of Cinder

Dark Souls 3 boss: Soul of Cinder

So here we are. The final boss of Dark Souls 3. Potentially something of a let down, to be honest.

This guy hits hard, it’s true – but if you’re even a little bit agile, and capable of keeping calm, you can do it.

First things first: be aware that the boss has two full health bars, one for each phase. Ration your Estus and don’t get too excited when the first one empties out. Keep your health good and full through this fight; why do you think we’ve been collecting all those Estus Shards, eh?

If you’re a very low vigour character, you’ll want to bring a very good shield and use it all the time, because some of the boss’s attacks will absolutely one hit kill you. This means you need to be very, very careful of when you attack, because every time you lower your guard, you are potentially moments from death. If you can take a hit every now and then, this is a reasonably comfortable battle once you get into the swing of it.

Most of the Soul of Cinder’s attacks are slashes or thrusts, easily rolled away from. With a conservative strategy of one hit per evasion during the boss’s recovery phases, plus good roll placement and stamina conservation, you’ll whittle him down with no dramas. Spell casters should wait for the boss to go into a melee combo, and fire away when the boss is flailing his sword in the other direction.

Soul of Cinder is the ultimate NPC character, which means it has a ton of abilities. During the first phase, it will begin with melee attacks only, then switch to a mix of lightning spears and homing soul masses, then switch to fireballs and other pyromancy spells, and finally begin using miracles. This last phase is very annoying, as the boss can heal itself – but ideally, you’ll have beaten the first phase before it gets this far. If the battle drags on it begins to cycle through this series again.

The second phase is significantly more dangerous, but comparatively simple, as there’s only one set of moves and abilities to worry about. The boss becomes more aggressive and faster, and begins to unleash multiple lightning spears, which home in for an area of effect attack. It also has a very nasty grab attack, and a five hit combo you can’t roll out of, as it flicks you into the air.

Luckily, as long as you are circling and rolling, the only attack that will really worry you is the lightning one. It can be hard to predict where it will hit and also keep out of the boss’s way; try unlocking the camera and rolling as far away as you can in a diagonal line.

When the battle is over, you’ll receive Soul of the Lords . Read this item description carefully to understand just what you’ve been fighting.

To trigger the ending of the game, approach the bonfire in the centre of the boss arena. There are multiple options here, so you may want to double check the endings guidebefore you do anything.

After the cutscenes, you can choose to begin New Game+ immediately by saying “yes” when asked about your second journey, or choose “no” to return to Firelink Shrine; New Game+ is always available from the Firelink Shrine bonfire from here on.

Back at Firelink, you’ll find some things have changed. For one, the Shrine Handmaid now sells the rad Firelink armour set. You can now set off to explore optional areas like Archdragon Peak, go treasure hunting, level up for NG+, help other players or explore PvP. Head for NG+ if you’re ready for even greater challenges.

Well done you! That was fun, hey. Thanks for playing along with us.
