Horror fans rejoice! Friday the 13th: The Game , an asymmetrical multiplayer game that puts players in the shoes of Jason Voorhees, has been successfully funded on Kickstarter, and is slated for release in October of 2016.

reached its $700,000 Kickstarter funding goalwith about three days left to spare in the campaign. This means that fans can look forward to not only the release of the game, but also a documentary that details special effects legend Tom Savini designing a new look for Jason. Furthermore, reaching the $700,000 goal also means that the sleeping bag environmental kill for Jason will be in the game.

At the time of this writing, the game has raised a total of $716,555, and has a plausible shot at achieving some of its stretch goals. Most of these involve adding new ways for Jason to kill the ill-fated camp counselors in the game, new maps based on settings from the films, and new skins for both Jason and the counselors. One of the more intriguing stretch goals would require nearly $2 million to be raised, which is a shame, because it adds a single player component to the otherwise all-multiplayer experience.

At this point, it’s unrealistic for Friday the 13th: The Game to hit most of its stretch goals, but it could potentially earn enough to add a couple more environmental kills to the game. In any case, it’s always possible that a publisher could step in and provide additional resources for the developers (as we saw with the Allison Road Kickstarter), so the content teased in the stretch goals could still possibly make it to the final game.

With Friday the 13th successfully funded, hopefully some genuine gameplay footage will finally be revealed. Outside of a brief look at Camp Crystal Lake, the developers haven’t shown much of the game. This is understandable as the project is still very early in development, but considering it began life asand is presumably a bit farther along in development than many other Kickstarter projects, we had hoped to see a little more by now.

Friday the 13th: The Game is scheduled to release in October of 2016 for the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
