A brief snippet of Gears of War 4 multiplayer gameplay has surfaced, showcasing the brand new and brutal knife execution featured from within the hotly anticipated title.
There are few things more glorious than a gruesome and overly gory kill – at least, that’s strictly the case when it’s directed towards a monster within the Gears of War universe. The series is very well known for several things (with one being its tightly-knit cover-based shooting mechanics), but the name of the game for the franchise has always been near-obscene amounts of gore. Many longtime fans will be happy to know, then, that Gears of War 4 won’t be changing that up – despite word that it will be allowing gamers to censor the violenceat their discretion.
Leading up to the game’s Beta launch this April, The Coalition has been teasing fans with little snippets in a bid to get them excited for the shooter, and one of the biggest ways the newfound Gears developer went about doing this was through a cinematic trailer for Gears of War 4 called ‘Tomorrow’. While that piece played to the title’s narrative quite well, some new gameplay featuring the franchise-first knife execution has now surfaced to further tease fans.
To reaffirm what has already been said in this article, gore has not gone anywhere in.
The knife execution is said to be part of a major mechanic within the fourth numbered iteration of the now Microsoft-owned IP. As a counter to the Mantle Kick (jumping over cover and booting someone in the face), the knife execution allows players to grab enemies foolish enough to seek refuge on the other side of cover – making strongholds much more strategic in the process. This means a lot for dedicated users, and it should prove a huge tactical addition if Gears of War 4 pushes for serious and competitive gameplay – a la Halo 5: Guardians .
The only other brief gameplay video that has been released as of this writing is a rather gruesome execution involving the new Dropshot weapon. Those wanting to see that doozy of a finisher are encouraged to do so, but fans waiting for more will be happy to know that they won’t be doing so for much longer. The Gears 4 Beta is set to kickoff in the very near future, so there will be much more to look forward to for longtime fans itching to rev their Lancers once more.
Gears of War 4 arrives exclusively for the Xbox One on October 11, 2016.
