After a 3-day countdown on the Gears of War website, Microsoft unveils a stunning new Gears of War 4 trailer during the season two premiere of Fear the Walking Dead.
Last week was quite an exciting time for all Gears of War fans out there. After the reveal of the upcoming game’s cover art– featuring a Marcus Fenix cameo no less – a 3-day countdown clockwas released on the officialTwitter account. After 72 hours of heavy speculation over what was going to be revealed once the clock hit zero, we now have an answer: a stunning brand new Gears of War 4 cinematic trailer.
Shown tonight during the season two premiere of Fear the Walking Dead , this new Gears of War 4 trailer is 60 seconds of action and emotion, all while set to an unnerving cover of Simon and Garfunkel’s The Sound of Silence . Comprised of scenes from the past and present, the trailer features some intense scenes of an adult JD Fenixin the middle of a battle with some hard-to-see enemies, and some loving familial scenes involving a young JD, his father Marcus, and his mother, who we presume is Anya Stroud. Given that Gears of War 4 is set 25 years afterthe thought of Marcus passing on the Gears protagonist torch to JD is really hit home in this trailer.
For those wanting to see JD in action, as well as a cameo from Marcus and Anya, check out the new trailer right here.
While the Gears of War 4 trailer hit all the right notes by taking a leaf out of Dead Island ‘s emotional trailerhandbook, no new gameplay footage was shown. However, those 60 seconds were dark, intense, and were punctuated by a finish featuring the caption “The Nightmare Reborn,” signifying that Gears of War 4 is indeed going back to its horror-esque roots.
Seeing as how there’s only six months to go before gamers can get their hands on what is expected to be yet another Xbox graphical showcase, we can probably expect some great new gameplay footage soon – especially considering that the Gears 4 ‘s beta kicks off this month.
Gears of War 4 will arrive exclusively for the Xbox One on October 11, 2016.
