Dark Souls 3: Irithyll of the Boreal Valley to Central Irithyll
Irithyll is a city in the Boreal Valley, which is some distance from the satellites of Lothric you’ve explored so far. To access it, you’ll need to have defeated the Deacons of the Deep to obtain the Small Doll, and put down High Lord Wolnir so you can access the doors. With those two tasks complete, head through the doors at the High Lord Wolnir bonfire.
A beautiful view greats you. If you peer up and behind you, you can see Lothric in the distance. Follow the stairs around a short way and activate the Irithyll of the Boreal Valley bonfire . Just going by the number of locations, this is pretty much the half way point. The difficulty ramps up from here, though, and you may find your progress slows.
Before you start, you might want to visit Firelink Shrine briefly; Greirat will be ready to go on another journey. Check our NPC guidefor details if you’re worried.
The bloodstains here probably give you a clue: there’s a tough mini-boss on the bridge ahead. (This is also a favourite spot for invasions, as so many players come sailing merrily out of High Lord Wolnir in Ember form.)
The wolf beast jumps down behind you as you advance. This is a pretty difficult fight as the boss just does so much damage with each blow, and it’s very good at hitting you as it whirls to face you if you move to its side. You’ve got to keep your health up, and only move in for the attack when it gives you a lovely big opening like winding up for its lightning attack; otherwise, all your stamina should be used on your guard. Unfortunately, guarding won’t protect you from damage whenever the boss whirls to face you; like a dog, it attacks you on the sides.
Alternatively, sprint across the bridge; if you’ve got the doll, you’ll pass through the barrier be safe on the other side. A lot of players just run here, and that’s totally legit. When you reach the other side, the mini-boss will disappear after a short time (encourage it with a few arrows if you like).
When the boss is dead or gone, you can then double back and grab the soul near this end of the bridge. If you cross back to the other side on foot, the wolf-beast doesn’t seem to reappear, so you can activate Sirris’s summon sign to continue her sidequest; see our NPC guidefor more information if you don’t mind spoilers.
On the other side of the bridge, you’ll find a Soul of a Nameless Soldier , a Rime-Blue Moss Clump and a Soul of a Weary Warrior around the fountain. Activate the Central Irithyll bonfire .
