Get up to speed with the gamplay, the guns, and everything we know so far.
Westieis here to talk us through the pre-alpha footage of Rising Storm 2: Vietnam.
Echoing my own sentiments about Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam being simply wonderful, Rising Storm 2: Vietnam looks to be just as awesome, albeit with the gameplay turned up a few notches to super hardcore.
“We’re bringing our gritty and realistic military shooter gameplay forward to a time when assault rifles ruled the ground, choppers ruled the skies, and every tunnel could hide an ambush,” said Tripwire Interactive President, John Gibson.
“The iconic setting of Vietnam opens up so many opportunities for exciting asymmetrical gameplay.”
It certainly sounds interesting. For example, the weapons arsenal differs between the two factions, with the Americans having state-of-the-art weaponry (for the era), while the Viet Cong will be equipped with older World War 2 weapons, and slightly newer Russian arms.
To offset the difference, the Viet Cong will be more agile and there’s a possibility there will a stealth element when playing as this group.
The US will be able to call in Napalm strikes, while the VC can set booby traps and use tunnels.
The facets of this system allow for a multitde of tactics and playstyles, and would be amazing providing they can pull if off, but I foresee a few balancing issues – at the outset at least.
Matches will accommodate 64 players, but the focus will be on your squad, with more rewards for working together, and a higher chance of staying alive. There will also be additional modes for smaller battles if you prefer.
Check out the video for a more in-depth look at gameplay system, the environments, and weapons.
Rising Storm 2: Vietnam is due for release on PC later this year.
