An upgraded console isn’t a foreign concept to gamers, with the Xbox 360 Elite and PlayStation 3 Slim both being released several years after the original console.
Only 3 years later, Sony plans on releasing a new and improved PlayStation 4, which currently has the code name PlayStation Neo.
According to Giant Bomb‘s sources, the pricing has yet to be revealed on the new console; with a rumoured pricing of $399.
This October every game shipping for the PlayStation 4 will be required to have a base mode and a NEO mode, taking advantage of the upgraded hardware in the console.
With the new upgrades, Sony is expecting the NEO mode to adjust nicely to a 4K resolution. It has suggestions on how the developers can achieve such a spectacle, but reminds them that the frame rate must meet or exceed the original PlayStation 4 frame rate.
