Telltale Games reveals that their next project is Batman: A Telltale Game Series via an intriguing teaser trailer that debuted during The Game Awards 2015.
As is the case with most big gaming events, some of the surprises slated for The Game Awards 2015leaked ahead of time, like Kombat Pack 2 for Mortal Kombat X . However, one huge surprised stayed under wraps, and that was the newly announced game Batman: A Telltale Game Series .
Revealed via a somewhat brief teaser trailer, appears to retain the cel-shaded visuals used in other games from the developer, and it will receive a new title at release. Very little is known about the game beyond this information, except that it will focus on Bruce Wayne, and his struggle to find balance in his life as a caped vigilante.
Telltale released this official statement regarding their new Batman game shortly after the game was unveiled at The Game Awards:
“At Telltale, we’ve been honored to bring our unique approach to interactive storytelling to some of the biggest entertainment franchises in the world, and we’re excited to announce that we’ll soon be exploring what it means to be Batman in an all-new series starting next year. This iteration of Batman will give fans a first-hand opportunity to dive deeper into the complex life and mind of Bruce Wayne, the duality of his own identity, and the struggle of responsibility in saving a city overcome with corruption and villainy.”
In the meantime, check out the Batman: A Telltale Game Series teaser trailer below.
While it’s a little strange that we’re learning about this before seeing more of the Telltale Games Marvel project, both fans of Batman and of Telltale’s previous works should be excited at this news. Telltale has a proven track record of critically-acclaimed games, and they will no doubt treat the Batman IP with as much respect as they have other franchises.
Perhaps WB Montreal’s pair of games and this Telltale series will connect with the Batman: Arkham games to create a shared gaming DCU. Of course, this is just speculation at this point, as ultimately, we’ll have to sit tight and wait for more official information on all these DC Comics gaming projects. However, with a release slated for 2016, hopefully the wait for more on Batman: A Telltale Game Series won’t be too long.
The first episode of Batman: A Telltale Game Series will be available at some point in 2016. No platforms were confirmed, but it seems like a safe bet that it will be available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One at the very least, with mobile platforms and last-gen systems possible as well.
