Capcom announces that the critically acclaimed Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition will be available on the Wii U eShop in North America beginning Thursday, February 4th.
Has Capcom released Resident Evil 4 on enough platforms? The answer to that question is apparently “no”, as the company has just released a trailer hyping the addition ofto the Wii U eShop in North America.
The trailer shows players what they can expect from the game, which originally released over a decade ago in 2005. Generally considered the best version of the game by fans, Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition allows players to experience all the content ever released for it over its many reiterations, while also enjoying the precision that the Wii remote controls provide.
The only real downside to the Wii version of Resident Evil 4 is that, at this point, the graphics are outdated, even compared to other versions of the game. There’s actually a version of Resident Evil 4 with HD graphicsthat released for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 about four years back, so it may disappoint some fans that Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition is graphically inferior.
While Resident Evil 4 was once praised for its visuals, the real reason it is one of the most highly rated video games ever produced is due to its stellar gameplay, which as our Resident Evil 4 HD reviewwill attest, still holds up in the modern gaming environment. Judge for yourself by seeing the Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition in action on the Wii U eShop in the trailer below:
It’s nice that Capcom is making Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition available as a download through the Wii U eShop, but at the same time, it feels somewhat pointless. Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition is not a terribly rare game, so consumers should have little difficulty finding a hard copy version. The Wii U can play Wii discs, and considering the console’s limited storage space, it seems as though finding Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition in disc form would be the best way to play the game on Wii U.
At any rate, more Resident Evil 4 is a good thing, and at least Capcom is giving gamers options when it comes to obtaining games. The re-release of Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition as well as the recently released HD remaster of Resident Evil Zero should help tide over series fans until the highly anticipated Resident Evil 2 remakehits store shelves.
Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition will be available on the Wii U eShop beginning February 4th.
