Despite the intense connection between voice actor David Hayter and Snake from the Metal Gear Solid series, it was surprising to hear that David Hayter would prefer not to do anything with Kojima again. In an episode of Game Informer Show, Hayter spoke about his departure as Snake from the Metal Gear series and reluctance to work with Hideo Kojima again.
When he didn’t receive the call back to play as Snake again in Metal Gear Solid V, he was quite distraught. Especially when he heard the voice actor would be Hollywood A-lister Kiefer Sutherland. So much so that he found it impossible for him to even consider playing either Phantom Pain or Ground Zero.
“I was so annoyed by the Metal Gear V debacle, and people said, ‘Are you gonna play the game?’… Yeah. That’ll be 60 hours of humiliation that I can’t wait to get to. I haven’t played the latest two iterations because it’s just too painful.”
Hayter also recalled several points during his tenure as Snake where Kojima tried to replace him, recalling a time when Kurt Russell was offered the role in which he declined. The relationship between him and Kojima does not exist and Hayter has gone on to say he’d like to work with Konami if they would just get in contact with him, now that Kojima is gone.
