Almost every game in existence on the PC has some sort of mod you can augment it with. Dark Souls has the laughable “You Died Like A Bitch” death screen change, Star Wars: Battlefront (2015) has an ultra-realistic mod that makes Endor look just like it did in Return of the Jedi, and even Fallout 4 has a Buzz Lightyear paint job for your Power Suit. A recent mod for The Witcher 3 has turned the entire game’s combat system into a fantasy Yu-Gi-Oh game.
Originally noticed by Kotaku, the Nexus mod creator DickDangerJusticehas replaced the traditional hack-and-slash system with the game’s side card game. When attacking an opponent, rather than dealing damage, an instance of Gwent is started. Beating the opponent destroys all nearby enemies, but losing the game causes you to die.
According to DickDangerJustice, the mod is completely functional with the game’s main questline. He’s stated that he’ll be working on creating a gradual progression system for the card games, as well as developing a card-based economic system, complete with booster packs.
The mod can be downloaded here, and while it’s only for PC, there has been talks by CD Projekt Red that mod support might come to the PS4 and Xbox One as well. While no word has been made about that in a while, we’ll hopefully at least hear a yes or no from them soon.
