Volkswagen has a court hearing set for Thursday, and in an agenda for the meeting, Volkswagen says that it does “not believe” that an expedited trial is going to be necessary once the judge sees the status of VW’s effort to fix the 600,000 diesel cars.

The vehicles in question can spew up to 40 percent more pollutants into the air than the EPA allows thanks to a defeat device that allows the vehicle to run cleaner during emissions tests.

U.S District Judge Charles Breyer originally set a deadline of March 2016 for VW to come up with a fix for its cars, but that was extended to April 21. When the extension was given by Judge Breyer, he said that if Volkswagen can’t come up with a fix by the April cut off, he would consider taking the issue to trial.
Volkswagen still hasn’t said how it will fix all of its affected vehicles, though clearly the company is confident that its fix will be enough to sate U.S. regulators.
