Spyker C8 Preliator priced from $354,990

Spyker says the Preliator, which will be limited to just 50 units worldwide, will start at $354,990 with the 6-speed manual transmission, or $362,990 with the 6-speed automatic. These prices do not include destination and available options like a five-piece Louis Vuitton luggage set, which will inflate the price even more.

Based on the C8 Aileron that debuted in 2009, the Preliator first appeared at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show earlier this month. Spyker gave it a second showing in New York because the U.S. is an important market (it sells about half its cars here), and the company's first U.S. dealer was local outfit Manhattan Motorcars.

The Preliator looks similar to Spyker's previous C8 models, and uses the same engine. It's a 4.2-liter V-8 sourced from Audi, but the engine now has an added supercharger that pushes output to a healthy 518 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque. That will get the Preliator from 0-62 mph in 3.7 seconds and on to a top speed of 201 mph, according to Spyker. An aluminum spaceframe chassis keeps the curb weight down to 3,065 pounds.

Preliator production will be handled by CPP Metalcraft in the Untied Kingdom. Spyker is also planning a higher-volume model called the B6 Venator, which it hopes to get into productoon later this year. More laterally, it also announced last year that it will work with U.S. electric aircraft startup Volta Volare, leading to speculation about a possible electrified sports car.
