While it hasn't been confirmed by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, the source suggests the Renegade Trackhawk has been approved, and that it will arrive by the 2018 model year.

The possible performance Renegade might be powered by a twin-turbocharged, 2.4-liter four-cylinder delivering at least 300 horsepower. All-wheel drive would be a necessity to move that power to the ground, but it's uncertain which FCA transmission could cope with the power.

Telltale is Making ‘Game of Thrones’ Game Based on HBO Series

Telltale is Making ‘Game of Thrones’ Game Based on HBO Series

In addition to the unexpected, and admittedly peculiar, announcement of Tales from the Borderlands , Telltale Games had yet another reveal for the Spike VGX 2013 — one that was less unexpected, but arguably more exciting.

image description

— one that was less unexpected, but arguably more exciting. The rumorswere true and now it’s official: Telltale Games is working on a Game of Thrones title.

A brief trailer accompanied the announcement, but the most important thing to note about this game is that it will be a companion for Game of Thrones the HBO series not George R.R. Martin’s novels. Obviously, the series is, itself, based on Martin’s work, but it’s important to make that distinction.

As far as what gamers can expect, Telltale Gamesdidn’t say much, only that this game will be a “new chapter,” suggesting that, like The Walking Dead , this Game of Thrones title will exist in the same world but follow new characters. We wouldn’t be surprised if a few familiar faces made an appearance, but it’s too early to tell at this point.

Also like The Walking Dead , Game of Thrones seems to be the perfect property for Telltale to take on. From the political intrigue to the epic battles, Game of Thrones offers a wide variety of experiences from which Telltale could draw on for potential storylines, and most importantly it’s a franchise that embraces killing off key characters.

Game of Thrones Telltale Trailer Spike VGX

Game of Thrones Telltale Trailer Spike VGX

After a few missteps with Back to the Future and Jurassic Park , it appears Telltale has hit their stride thanks to the incredible success of The Walking Dead . And now, with Game of Thrones under their banner, Telltale is in control of two of the biggest brands in pop culture.

How would you like to see Telltale adapt Game of Thrones into a game? Should Telltale include characters from the books/show or should they try to tell their own story?

2017 Jeep Patriot/Compass Replacement Spy Shots

2017 Jeep Patriot/Compass Replacement Spy Shots

Jeep has started the first public road trials of a test mule for a new compact crossover SUV that will replace both the Patriot and Compass in the automaker’s lineup.

Jeep has started the first public road trials of a test mule for a new compact crossover SUV that will replace both the Patriot and Compass in the automaker’s lineup. The new model, whatever it ends up being called, will be positioned between the subcompact Renegadeand small Cherokee.

In its five-year strategy announcementmade last year, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles [NYSE:FCAU], Jeep’s parent company, confirmed the model for launch in 2016. But as these spy shots reveal, we’re still in the early stages of development, which means we’re unlikely to see the vehicle in showrooms until late in 2016, should Jeep stick to its original schedule. This means it should arrive as a 2017 model.

Although this looks like an ordinary Renegade, those of us familiar with test mules will recognize the stretched rear section. The black band on the vehicle suggests that several inches have been added to the length of the donor Renegade platform (refered to as Small-Wide within FCA). Also borrowed from the Renegade will likely be an independent suspension setup, with MacPherson struts up front and a Chapman strut design out back.

Four-cylinder engines will feature across the range, with the primary unit expected to be a new turbocharged 2.0-liter unit. Expect six-speed manual and nine-speed automatic options in the transmission department. Front-wheel drive will likely be standard with all-wheel drive remaining an option.

It’s too early to talk styling but we’re expecting a rugged, boxy look similar to that of the Renegade and current Patriot rather than the more refined look of the Compass. It will still be instantly recognizable as a Jeep, even to those with only a passing interest in cars, as it’s one of the key model additions in Jeep’s strategy to achieve more than 1.8 million annual vehicle sales worldwide by 2018. Last year the brand sold more than a million vehiclesfor the first time.

2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee: More Power And MPGs, Less Weight

2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee: More Power And MPGs, Less Weight

All Grand Cherokees will see reductions in weight, thanks to a new electric power steering system and lighter aluminum suspension bits.

The Hellcat-powered Grand Cherokee Trackhawkwon't debut until 2017. In the meantime, we'll see some incremental improvements for 2016 models.

All Grand Cherokees will see reductions in weight, thanks to a new electric power steering system and lighter aluminum suspension bits. Trimming some fat, combined with lower rolling resistance tires, means better fuel efficiency across the board. And the revised Pentastar 3.6-liter V-6also gets a five horsepower bump—up to 295 hp—along with Engine Stop-Start technology.

ALSO SEE: Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk: 0-60 In 2.7 Seconds, $79,999?

An eight-speed automatic is still standard for all models.

Power remains the same for SRT versions, but updated drive modes—including a custom setting which lets drivers mix and match attributes—mean more options for getting the power to the ground. Additionally, the new Valet mode means traction control remains on, launch mode is disabled, and only a portion of the V-8's 360 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque will be available when owners hand over the keys.

A 7-inch digital dash display is also new, and, in a nod to the Jeep's sporty aspirations, it features the tachometer in the center. Software-wise, added SRT Performance Pages in the Uconnect system will provide more ways to monitor vehicle and driver performance.

CHECK OUT: Dodge SRT Hellcats And HEMIs Could Die In 2019

How all the new features will contribute to the driving experience or fuel economy remains to be seen, but continued refinement is a recipe for making good vehicles great, and it looks like Fiat Chrysler Automobiles [NYSE:FCAU] is on the right track here.

BMW is committed to developing a production-viable fuel cell powertrain, and this week showed two research vehicles that it is using to develop the technology. One of them is based on the sleek i8 sports car, which has a modified body designed to be even slipperier through the air.

Jeep’s Grand Cherokee was originally due to undergo a complete redesign in 2017. However, there’s been a change in plans and now we’re hearing that the redesigned model may not be launched until 2018 or '19.

Dodge has come out with a new television spot highlighting its three main performance offerings. The ad is very slick and well worth the watch, especially the extended version.

You’ll find all of these stories and more in today’s car news, right here at Motor Authority.

2018 Land Rover Range Rover Sport SVR spy shots

2018 Land Rover Range Rover Sport SVR spy shots

We have new spy shots of a prototype for the updated Range Rover Sport SVR, a vehicle we expect to be launched alongside the updated version of the regular Range Rover Sport sometime next year.

Land Rover is working on a mid-cycle update for its Range Rover Sport, and naturally the updates will filter across to the high-performance SVR variant.

sometime next year. They should arrive as 2018 models.

Looking at the photos, we can see that the basic design will remain unchanged. However, there appears to be a new design for the intakes in the front bumper. This might suggest the vehicle is getting the 575-horsepower version of Jaguar Land Rover’s supercharged 5.0-liter V-8 found in the 2017 Jaguar F-Type SVR. The current Range Rover Sport SVR has the same engine but with a 550-hp rating.

Beyond any mechanical updates, look for tweaks to be made inside the cabin. We could also see some additional tech features such as more advanced electronic driver aids.

The current Range Rover Sport SVR is already a brilliant vehicle, so any refinements being made are simply icing on the cake. Despite its size and ability to go off-road, the Range Rover Sport SVR comes close to matching the performance of some dedicated sports cars on the track, including Jaguar Land Rover’s own F-Type. It really is that good.

Note, the Range Rover SUV is also coming in for an update, as evidenced by a prototype spotted earlier.

2018 Porsche 911 GT2 spy shots

2018 Porsche 911 GT2 spy shots

However, a number of details suggest the car is actually an early mule for a new 911 GT2.

Porsche is out testing what appears to be a more extreme version of its latest 911 GT3 RS.

Already confirmedby the 911’s chief engineer Andreas Preuninger, the new GT2 is expected to be the last member of the 991-series 911 family. Porsche already has mules for the next-generation car testing on public roads.

At the front of this particular mule we can see new intakes larger than the units on the GT3 RS. And at the rear are hidden vents at either side of the bumper, which typically indicate a turbocharged engine. These aren’t found on the GT3 RS.

Another key difference is the position of the exhaust tips. On the mule there is an exhaust tip at each side of the car whereas on the GT3 RS they sit at the center.

GT2s typically feature the same engine as the 911 Turbo but with even more power. With the latest Turbo Sdelivering as much as 580 horsepower from its twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter flat-6, expect the GT2 to have around 620 hp. Since we're already so late in the 991's life cycle, Porsche could even skip the GT2 and go straight to a GT2 RS, meaning we could be looking at hp in the 660 vicinity. Recall, the previous GT2 RSalready came with 620 hp.

Talk of the GT2 being axed for good emerged in recent years. The thinking was that the latest Turbo models were already offering better performance than previous GT2s, and topping them, with the traditional rear-wheel-drive layout of the GT2, would only make a car with a fearsome reputation even more frightening. Well, we’re glad Porsche changed its mind.

Look for the new GT2 to debut next year, as a 2018 model.

Dark Souls Board Game Raises $200,000 in Two Hours

Dark Souls Board Game Raises $200,000 in Two Hours

The official Dark Souls board game from Bandai Namco and Steamforged Games quickly passes through its crowdfunding goal, raising $200,000 in just two hours.

image description

As the recent record-breaking sales of Dark Souls 3 have shown, the action RPG franchise is incredibly popular – as well as incredibly difficult. Keen to give fans even more of what they want (i.e more Dark Souls related content), Bandai Namco recently announced that it is teaming up with tabletop games maker Steamforged Games to make an official Dark Souls board game. When the project was announced, Steamforged explained that it “could not be more excited to be given the honor of developing a board game that embraces everything that makes Dark Souls the deep, compelling game experience that it is.”

Earlier today, Steamforged began the Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign for the project and theboard game has already blitzed through its initial goal and then some. Steamforged was only asking for $70,000, but this goal was surpassed in just three minutes. In less than two hours, that crowdfunding tally had risen to $200,000, meaning that those who have backed the board game have unlocked three player characters and extra cards as stretch goals as well.

Much of the board game’s success is likely down to the fact that Steamforged has pitched it as both accessible and in line with what existing fans of the series may expect. For example, the company explains that “with multiple difficulty modes and a high-level of replayability, this is a game designed to be deep enough to satisfy hard-core tabletop gamers whilst remaining accessible to newer players.” It can also be played solo or co-op, there are various “core” character classes to pick from, and it also promises “fast and deadly” combat as players take on bosses, mini-bosses, and grunts.

Dark Souls ’ bonfires are also featured in the board game with Steamforged saying that “you will experience a new danger as you explore, with each new location a real risk to your hard-won progress,” but “if you die, then you drop everything you have collected and reappear at the nearest bonfire.” Moreover, Steamforged says that in returning to the bonfire and spending Souls to “strengthen up,” players will “fully reset the locations.” Players can also press on and “pray” that the next enemy isn’t beyond their capabilities, says Steamforged, with the company also teasing that “the next location may contain a clue to the Boss and how to defeat them.

The only downside appears to be the board game’s release date, as Steamforged estimates that delivery will take as long as “April 2017.” For those upset that Dark Souls 3 may be the end of the series, that may feel like a long time to wait. Still, perhaps in the meantime fans can try their hand at some wild Dark Souls 3 challenges, such as beating bosses using only their fists.

Apple upgrades MacBook with Skylane CPU, adds rose gold option

Apple has just refreshed their MacBook line-up. The 12-inch MacBook gets the biggest update in the form of updated internals and a Rose Gold option. The 13-inch MacBook Air also gets updated and gets 8GB RAM as standard.

The 12-inch MacBook has stirred up quite some controversy with its single USB type-C port. Following the refresh, the Macbooks will now tote Skylake processors (Core M) which can be clocked from 1.3GHz to 3.1GHz, Intel HD Graphics 515 and PCIe SSDs. The devices will be available in Gold, Silver, Space Grey and Rose Gold options. RAM has also been bumped up to 1866MHz.

Apple’s 13-inch MacBook Airs get a slight bump in spec in the form of 8GB RAM being made standard across all devices. We would have loved to see a retina display on the Air though.

An upgrade to sixth generation Skylake chips mean that the MacBook should get a bump in battery life as well as performance. The updated graphics chip alone should improve performance by 25%, claims Apple. Apple also claims that you will be able to extract 10 hours of web browsing and 11 hours of movie playback on iTunes on the MacBook.

鈥淢acBook is the thinnest and lightest Mac we have ever made and it鈥檚 our vision for the future of the notebook,鈥 said Philip Schiller, Apple鈥檚 senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. 鈥淐ustomers are going to love this update to MacBook, with the latest processors, faster graphics, faster flash storage, longer battery life and a beautiful rose gold finish.鈥/p>

And we thought the.

The base model MacBook with a 1.1GHz Core M CPU, 8GB RAM and 256GB flash storage will be available for Rs 1,06,900 starting tomorrow. Upgraded models are available from Rs 1,29,900 onwards, depending on the configuration.

2018 BMW X5 spy shots

2018 BMW X5 spy shots

BMWs typically have a shelf life of seven years but that won’t be the case for the current X5 whose successor is already out testing.

This may look like one of the prototypes for the next-generation X3but according to our photographer the vehicle is bigger. In fact, it’s said to be bigger than even the current third-generation X5, suggesting the new fourth-generation model will provide more interior space.

The X5 was last redesigned for the 2014 model year, though the third-generation model’s underpinnings were shared with the second-generation X5 on sale since the 2007 model year. The fourth-generation model, which we’re currently expecting to arrive late next year, as a 2018 model, won’t have anything in common with its predecessors.

It will ride on the SUV version of BMW’s modular platform that debuted in the 2016 7-Series. Referred to internally as a CLAR (previously 35up), short for Cluster Architecture, the platform combines carbon fiber-reinforced plastic with conventional steel and aluminum to save weight while increasing rigidity and strength. The SUV version of the CLAR platform will also underpin the next X3 and the new X7 full-size SUV BMW has confirmed for launch in 2018.

One of the reasons for the speedy arrival of the new X5 is to streamline the production process. The CLAR-based SUVs including the X7 will be built at BMW’s plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina. We’ve also heard that the current X5 is facing stiff competition from newer rivals like the Audi Q7 and Volvo XC90.

The new X3 will be the first to arrive. It will be followed by this new X5 and then finally the X7. Beyond the X7, look for new generations of the X4 and X6. There will also be an X2 riding on the BMW Group's compact UKL platform coming in the very near future.

from the 2012 Paris Auto Show rejoice, the automaker has heeded your calls and is putting the stunning show car into production. Our latest spy shots show a late-stage prototype.

The general shape looks virtually identical to what we saw on the Panamera Sport Turismo concept, though camouflage gear still hides most of the final details. This particular prototype is for the high-performance Turbo variant, as indicated by the uprated wheels, tires and brakes plus the square-shaped, quad-exhaust tips.

The car is essentially a wagon but Porsche won’t want you to call it that. Instead, expect something like Shooting Brake or Estate or perhaps even Gran Turismo to be used in the nomenclature. The idea of the car was born from customer feedback, as Porsche has previously said clients are requesting more luggage space than what’s offered by the current Panamera.

The second-generation Panamerain general is slightly larger than the current model. It will be the first car based on the Volkswagen Group’s MSB platform for large, front-engined, rear-wheel-drive (with available all-wheel drive) cars. Most next-generation Bentleys are expected to adopt this platform as well, including the next-generation Continental GT which we recently spied. Key benefits of the design are lighter weight and compatibility with electrified powertrains.

The variety of powertrains on offer for the current Panamera is likely to remain, albeit with some all-new engine designs thrown in. The 2014 Panamera S already received a new twin-turbo V-6, and for the second-generation Panamera we should see more potent variants like the GTS and Turbo benefit from a new V-8. A plug-in hybrid model will also be offered once again, but with improved battery technology helping to lower weight and increase capacity. The current Panamera S E-Hybrid weighs a hefty 4,609 pounds.

Adding a Panamera wagon is not without its risks. Mercedes-Benz is said to be dropping its own CLS Shooting Brakeafter the current generation runs its course due to a lack of sales. Part of the reason is that many buyers in Europe, the strongest market for high-end wagons, are—like the rest of the world—flocking to SUVs.

Buick rolls out second Avista concept, downplays production: Video

Though both are based on existing General Motors Company [NYSE:GM] platforms, respectively the rear-wheel-drive Omega and Alpha, Buick has downplayed the chances of either being built.

Buick has had some recent hits in the world of concepts with cars like the Avenirand Avista.

Buick chief Duncan Aldred previously ruled out the Avenir entering production. When asked at this week’s New York Auto Show if we could see the Avista built, his response was, “It's very buildable. Ultimately, it comes down to priorities. We'd love to do it. We could do it, but [there's] lots of things we'd love to do.”

Speaking with reporters at the show, Mercedes-AMG boss Tobias Moers said both a GLC63 and GLC63 Coupe were coming. He said they were due early next year. The news isn't a huge surprise, though, as the first prototype for the new GLC63 was recently spotted.

Dodge expands popular Go Mango color to all Chargers, Challengers

Dodge expands popular Go Mango color to all Chargers, Challengers

All of Dodge's 2016 Chargers and Challengers can now Go Mango, the automaker announced today.

That's not the name of a new dance move. Rather, it's a heritage-inspired color that was heretofore only available on Charger and Challenger SRT models.

Dodge confirmed the expanded availability of the orange Go Mango color this morning at the 2016 New York Auto Show.

Dodge revived Go Mango just last week, but the automaker says that it saw such a strong response at the enthusiast-oriented Spring Festival in California last weekend that it made the decision to make the color available line-wide.

We're not entirely certain the math works out for that timeline, especially since Dodge has Go Mango Chargers and Challengers on display at the New York show this week, but the decision is no doubt welcome to full-size Dodge buyers. The automaker said that about half of recent orders for its Charger and Challenger SRT have been for Go Mango.

There's no word on whether Go Mango will be simply available as a standard color on non-SRT Chargers and Challengers or if it will be bundled with other items in a package.

Dodge fans will be quick to note that the color was also recently made available on the Dart compact sedan.

There were plenty of surprises at this past week’s New York Auto Show but one of the best was the unveiling of the updated 2017 Nissan GT-R .

. The changes are the most significant since the GT-R’s 2009 debut, and they’re likely the last before an all-new version of Godzilla arrives on the scene. Along with the unveiling, Nissan also presented a video detailing the complex buildprocess of the car’s twin-turbocharged V-6.

Another major surprise was the reveal of the second-generation Audi R8 Spyder. There’s no V-8 option to be had as the R8 Spyder comes exclusively with a V-10 engine. However, we hear a V-6 option may be added at a later date.

Another crowd favorite was the Navigator concept from Lincoln. The big, flashy concept previews the design of the next-generation Navigator, which we’re expecting to be launched late next year. Don’t expect the concept’s gullwing doors to make it to production, though.

2017 Toyota Highlander gets revised look, 8-speed auto: Live photos

2017 Toyota Highlander gets revised look, 8-speed auto: Live photos

If you’re looking for a reliable and somewhat roomy SUV with third-row seats, the Toyota Highlander is a worthy option.

If you’re looking for a reliable and somewhat roomy SUV with third-row seats, the Toyota Highlander is a worthy option. The model, which is closely related to the Lexus RX, also won’t bust the budget like so many of the more premium offerings in this segment.

The current Highlander arrived on the scene as a 2014 model. For the 2017 model year it receives some updates that include revised styling, an 8-speed automatic transmission, engine stop-start, and the addition of a sporty SE variant.

ALSO SEE: 2017 Acura NSX first drive review

Before you get excited about the SE, note that it is just a trim. Opting for the SE adds things like 19-inch aluminum alloy wheels, stiffened suspension, black elements around the exterior, and black leather trim in the cabin.

The standard powertrain for the 2017 Highlander remains a 2.7-liter 4-cylinder, most likely matching the 185 horsepower of the base 2016 model. This engine is still mated to a 6-speed auto. Above this is Toyota’s familiar 3.5-liter V-6, which now features direct fuel injection and, hopefully, will eclipse the 270 hp the engine offers in the 2016 model. The V-6 comes standard with the 8-speed auto. At the top of the range is the Highlander Hybrid, which uses the V-6 as its internal combustion component and should have a combined output around 280 hp. This model relies on an electronically-controlled CVT.

Full specs will be released soon as the 2017 Highlander, which made its debut this week at the 2016 New York Auto Show, will be in showrooms this fall. Pricing information will be announced closer to the market launch but we can expect the starting figure to remain under $30k.

To learn about other vehicles debuting at the New York Auto Show, head to our dedicated hub. And for more on the Highlander, read the in-depth reviews over at The Car Connection .

2017 Fiat 124 Spider Elaborazione Abarth debuts in New York: Live photos

2017 Fiat 124 Spider Elaborazione Abarth debuts in New York: Live photos

The car, which for our market is known as the 2017 Fiat 124 Spider Elaborazione Abarth, is on show this week at the 2016 New York Auto Show.

Fresh from its world debut at the recent Geneva Motor Show, the Abarth version of Fiat’s new 124 Spiderhas just touched soil in the United States.

The car, which for our market is known as the 2017 Fiat 124 Spider Elaborazione Abarth, is on show this week at the 2016 New York Auto Show. The event is where Mazda is also showcasing the stunning MX-5 Miata RF. Both cars share most of their internals and are built at the same plant in Japan.

MUST SEE: 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata RF is a droptop fastback dandy: Video

Under the hood of the 124 Spider Elaborazione Abarth is Fiat’s familiar turbocharged 1.4-liter 4-cylinder engine. It matches the 160 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque of the stock 124 Spiderand drives the rear wheels only (the global version received a 10-hp power boost). Buyers will have the choice of either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed, paddle-shifted automatic.

Instead of upping the power, the engineers at Abarth focused on a creating a more responsive driving experience. To achieve this, they tuned the suspension for a sportier feel, added a limited-slip differential, and enhanced the exhaust system. We’re also told that the car gets a unique “Sport” mode that adjusts dynamic systems such as the engine, transmission (automatic only), electric power steering, and stability and traction control.

Along with the performance upgrades, there have been a few visual tweaks. There’s a more aggressive bumper at the front which leads into a blacked-out hood. The car also sports unique 17-inch aluminum wheels and a chrome-plated exhaust tip. As an option, Fiat will also offer a hand-painted hood stripe. Inside, leather trim, a unique instrument cluster, aluminum-accented sport pedals and a special gear shifter help to differentiate the Abarth model.

Some worthy options for the car are uprated Brembo brakes and Recaro sports seats.

The complete 2017 Fiat 124 Spider range will arrive in dealerships this summer. Pricing will be announced closer to the market launch.

2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Convertible debuts in New York: Live photos and video

Look out performance fans as Chevrolet has just dropped the first photos and details on the 2017 Camaro ZL1 Convertible.

The car was rolled out today at the 2016 New York Auto Show where the ZL1 coupe was shown for the first time just yesterday.

The specifications of the ZL1 Convertible are identical to those of the coupe, with Chevy even stating that the two cars should have comparable performance due to the Camaro’s modular and rigid body architecture, which was designed at the outset to support a high-performance convertible. As a result, only a few structural reinforcements were required for the convertible.

ALSO SEE: 2017 Nissan GT-R gets new look, 565 horsepower: Live photos and video

Under the hood is the familiar supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 found in the Corvette Z06 as well as the Cadillac CTS-V. Here, the engine is estimated to deliver 640 horsepower and 640 pound-feet of torque. It can be paired with a 6-speed manual or a new 10-speed automatic developed by General Motors Company [NYSE:GM] in partnership with Ford Motor Company [NYSE:F]. GM says it will offer 8 models with the quick-shifting auto by the end of 2018.

The unit has been developed for high-powered, rear- and all-wheel-drive applications. In the ZL1, it has some unique calibrations and hardware aimed at improving track performance. For example, there’s a 7.39 overall ratio for smaller steps between gears, which Chevy says enables the car’s engine to maintain optimal revs during acceleration, particularly when exiting corners.

Unfortunately we still don’t have any of the performance numbers, but we look forward to finding them out in the near future.

Volvo's ultra-luxurious XC90 Excellence priced from $105,895

Volvo's ultra-luxurious XC90 Excellence priced from $105,895

Show up to your local Volvo dealer with a $100,000 check and you'll be able to afford most, but not all, of the automaker's new models.

That's because Volvo is introducing an ultra-luxurious model dubbed the XC90 Excellencefor 2017. It made its local debut this week at the 2016 New York Auto Show.

At $105,895, including a mandatory $995 destination charge, the XC90 Excellence is more than double the price of a base XC90, which starts at $44,94 5. It's the most expensive Volvo ever offered to American buyers, and it's also the most luxurious.

That extra 60 grand over the base XC90 price tag nets buyers what Volvo calls "First Class" luxury. Both the front and rear seats are essentially identical, meaning all four passengers-—yes, there are only four seats—are coddled with heated, ventilated, and massaging thrones wrapped in Nappa leather trim. However, the rear seats also recline and there's a full-length console wrapped in leather and open pore wood that goes from the dashboard all the way back through both rows.

A refrigerator with bottle and glass holders also awaits rear seat riders and the cup holders are pre-filled with handmade crystal glasses from Sweden's Orrefors.

Mechanically, the XC90 Excellence is identical to the top-line XC90 T8 Twin Engine, meaning it boasts a hybrid powertrain rated at 400 horsepower. Selecting every option on an XC90 T8 boosts its price to $80,990.

Still, the XC90 Excellence offers a degree of opulence not far off from a Range Rover Autobiography, which stickers for over $200,000.

Production of the XC90 Excellence commences today and Volvo says a handful are earmarked for the United States.

2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk ready to go off-road: Live photos

2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk ready to go off-road: Live photos

Jeep has revived its off road-oriented Trailhawk badge for the brand’s updated 2017 Grand Cherokee, which debuts today at the 2016 New York Auto Show.

With a moniker last used on the 2014 Grand Cherokee (although also offered on the smaller Cherokee), the Trailhawk model appears to slot in somewhere between the Laredo and Limited trim grades. Its main purpose is to improve the SUV’s capability when the going gets rough.

ALSO SEE: 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit revealed

All Trailhawks will include the brand’s Quandra-Drive II transfer case and 4x4 system and an electronic limited slip rear differential. Building on those features, the Trailhawk gets its own version of the brand’s Quadra-Lift air suspension designed to improve wheel articulation off road.

At its highest setting, the Grand Cherokee Trailhawk boasts a 29.8 degree approach angle. Remove the lower part of its front fascia and that figure skyrockets to 36.1 degrees. A departure angle of 22.8 degrees and a breakover angle of 27.1 degrees are also made possible by the air suspension.

Running ground clearance of the Trailhawk is an impressive 10.8 inches when outfitted with the standard 3.6-liter V-6 and the optional 20-in alloy wheels. Jeep hasn’t noted ground clearance for the available 3.0-liter turbodiesel V-6 or the 5.7-liter V-8 engine options, however.

CHECK OUT: Lincoln Navigator concept previews more luxurious future for big SUV: Live photos

Additionally, the Trailhawk also includes as standard Selec-Speed Control with Hill Ascent Control that works with the vehicle’s anti-lock braking system to keep the vehicle moving at a set speed up and down hills.

Trailhawk will look the part thanks to its special red tow hooks and a black anti-glare hood decal. As you might expect, red-accented Trailhawk badging will be festooned all over the Jeep.

On the rubber front, 18-in wheels wrapped in Goodyear Adventure tires come as standard, while 20-in units are optional.

Inside, the changes are limited to model-specific leather and synthetic suede seat coverings, brushed piano black dash appliques, and red stitching.

Jeep says the 2017 Grand Cherokee Trailhawk will hit the market this summer. Pricing is likely to be announced shortly before Trailhawks hit dealer showrooms.

MINI Adds ALL4 All-Wheel Drive To New Clubman: Live photos

MINI Adds ALL4 All-Wheel Drive To New Clubman: Live photos

MINI’s bigger, more premium second-generation Clubman that’s just gone on sale will offer the option of all-wheel drive starting this April.

that’s just gone on sale will offer the option of all-wheel drive starting this April. All-wheel drive, known as ALL4 in MINI-speak, will be offered on the entire range in the United States, which at present includes just the base Cooper and sporty Cooper S.

The good news is that adding ALL4 won’t cost you any performance. The Cooper ALL4 Clubman still manages 134 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque from its turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine, while the Cooper S ALL4 Clubman and its turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder keeps a 189 hp and 206 lb-ft rating. A six-speed manual remains standard with an eight-speed automatic still offered as an option.

ALSO SEE: 2018 BMW X2 Spy Shots

The Cooper S will sprint to 60 mph from rest in a little over 6.0 seconds while the Cooper will achieve the same feat in a little over 9.0 seconds. Top speeds come in at 140 mph and 125 mph respectively. Buyers seeking even more performance should hold off until the arrival of a John Cooper Works modellater in the year.

2016 MINI Cooper S ALL4 Clubman

2016 MINI Cooper S ALL4 Clubman

Enlarge Photo

The latest ALL4 setup relies on a power take-off bevel gear on the front axle differential, a dual-section propeller shaft and a rear axle differential with an electrohydraulically controlled “hang-on” clutch. The system works together with the car’s stability control so that drive torque is directed between the front and rear axles as necessary.

In normal conditions, 100 percent of the drive torque is sent to the front wheels to maximize fuel economy. But if slip is detected, drive can be sent rearward within a fraction of a second to help maintain grip. Metrics the system relies upon include wheel rotation speeds, longitudinal and lateral acceleration figures, road speed, accelerator position, engine torque and steering angle. Grip is further enhanced a brake-based electronic differential lock.

MINI’s All4-equipped Clubmans make their world debut at the 2016 New York Auto Show in late March. Pricing information will be announced closer to the market launch but you can expect a slight premium on the $24,950 and $28,500 respective starting prices of the front-wheel-drive Cooper Clubman and Cooper S Clubman. Both figures include an $850 destination charge.

Counter-Strike 1.6 is now running on Android, just not very well

Alibek Omarov has managed to get the original, Steam version of Valve’s Counter-Strike 1.6 running on an Android tablet.

By tech2 News Staff /  20 Apr 2016 , 10:03

Alibek Omarov has managed to get the original, Steam version of Valve’s Counter-Strike 1.6 running on an Android tablet. This is not a port or a remake of the game, Omarov got the full game, servers and bots included, running on the device, reports.

The process of setting the game up on an Android device is a bit complicated and, for the pirates out there, the method requires you to own a legitimate copy of the game on Steam. Instructions and required APK files can be found聽. The controls for all the actions are overlaid on the screen itself.

It might not be worth jumping through hoops to get the device working on Android, but as聽sheer bragging value, why not? As far as we can tell from the video, performance isn’t very good as there’s noticeable stuttering and lag. Also, managing that plethora of touch-screen controls looks like a painful job, not to mention the fact that accuracy seems to have taken a serious hit.

Kudos to Omarov for getting the game to run as well as it did though. With the Source engine (an updated version of id’s Quake engine) playing nice on Android, it shouldn’t be long before we see some of our most beloved games running natively on the platform. Hopefully, at a better framerate.

2017 Mitsubishi Outlander plug-in hybrid debuts in New York, goes on sale this fall

2017 Mitsubishi Outlander plug-in hybrid debuts in New York, goes on sale this fall

Mitsubishi first showed us the Outlander plug-in hybrid in 2012, but the vehicle has only now been confirmed for sale in the United States.

Mitsubishi has consistently stated that the Outlander plug-in hybrid, officially an Outlander PHEV, would reach showrooms in the United States but was never willing to give a firm date.

That all changed at this week’s 2016 New York Auto Show where Mitsubishi confirmed that the Outlander PHEV would go on sale in these parts in the fall. It arrives as a 2017 model.

Powering the electric motors is a 12-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery. The setup enables multiple driving modes including electric-only four-wheel drive.

has made its North American debut. If you're interested in seeing this car early, you're going to need to get your butt to New York City. This week's New York Auto Show is providing the launching pad for the car here in the States.

2017 Toyota Prius Prime plug-in hybrid promises 22 miles electric range, 120 mpge: Live photos and video

2017 Toyota Prius Prime plug-in hybrid promises 22 miles electric range, 120 mpge: Live photos and video

The 2017 Prius Prime, which debuted today at the 2016 New York Auto Show, takes over where last year’s Prius Plug-In left off, combining 22 miles of emissions-free, fully electric driving with the standard Prius’ gasoline engine able to boost range to an estimated 600 miles.

An improved hybrid system thanks largely to an upgraded battery has yielded big benefits for the most fuel-efficient, and the only plug-in, version of Toyota’s latest Prius.

ALSO SEE: 2017 Hyundai Ioniq U.S. specs confirmed: Video

Those heady figures are highlighted by what Toyota says will likely be a 120 mpge rating, i.e. the distance the car can travel electrically on the same amount of energy that's contained in 1 gallon of gasoline. That figure would represent the highest mpge rating for any plug-in hybrid currently on the road.

After its 22 mile electric range is exhausted, the Prime drives like any standard Prius and Toyota estimates its EPA mpg rating in this mode will be the same as the standard model’s 52 mpg combined.

Making this all possible is the new car’s 8.8-kilowatt-hour battery pack, which Toyota says can be charged in 5.5 hours using a household outlet. A 240-volt Level 2 charger cuts that time in half.

Uniquely, the Prius Prime represents the brand’s first foray into using a dual motor generator drive system that allows both the electric motor and the generator to supply power to the wheels.

Also shared with the standard Prius is the basic body, though the Prius Prime gets unique touches, especially at the rear. The vehicle also gains some extras inside.

An 11.6 HD tablet-style screen displays the available navigation and infotainment systems. Prime models also include a suite of exclusive apps that allow users to remotely manage vehicle charging, locate charging stations, and track and compare their friends’ “eco driving score” from a smartphone.

Toyota says that the 2017 Prius Prime will be headed to American showrooms this fall. Pricing will be announced closer to the model's on-sale date.

Subaru didn’t have a new car on show. Instead, it previewed its next-generation Impreza sedan with a new concept. Subaru has a track record of teasing us with concepts that look nothing like the production models they preview—let’s hope this isn’t the case for the new Impreza because the concept looks particularly sharp.

The automaker has once again turnedto Manx rally driving legend Mark Higgins for the attempt. Higgins holds two records, most recently a 19:15.88 attemptat an average speed of 117 mph for the 37.73-mile course.

ALSO SEE: 2017 Subaru WRX and WRX STI preview

The new STI time attack car is a little more serious than a stock WRX STI, however. It was jointly developed between Subaru and Prodrive, and the Japanese automaker turned to its Subaru Technica International arm for additional technical assistance.

The WRX STI time attack car was developed especially for the Isle of Man record attempt. Although Subaru is remaining mum for now on specific technical details, it is clear the time attack car has a bespoke aerodynamics kit including a large rear wing and a low splitter integrated into its front bumper.

CHECK OUT: Five suspension modifications to avoid

The course itself is on rutted terrain that makes it a massive challenge for developing a suspension capable of both absorbing the pockmarked pavement and providing high levels of grip.

Subaru has also now unveiled the car's livery, which makes good use of the three-legged emblem that serves as the tiny island's mascot.

When users start up the M Laptimer, they'll also automatically activate their GoPro camera (as long as it is connected via an iOS device).

BMW says its M Laptimer appwill now allow users to control a GoPro camera via the company's iDrive controller and infotainment screen.

When users start up the M Laptimer, they'll also automatically activate their GoPro camera (as long as it is connected via an iOS device). Turning the M Laptimer app off will also deactivate the GoPro.

The system will also record a low-resolution version of whatever the GoPro captures and store it on the users' iOS device in order to be played back next to the M Laptimer's map view screen.

Users will also be able to turn their GoPro camera on and off remotely using the car's infotainment system. Playback controls will also be integrated directly into the infotainment screen.

The integration launches this summer. A GoPro tab will appear on the M Laptimer app within the car's iDrive system.

The M Laptimer app launched a few years ago to help BMW drivers make the most of their on-track driving.

And GoPro integration with cars are now quite common. BMW and Mini started offering GoPro integrationon its cars last year. Toyota, meanwhile, even includes a GoPro mount on some of its pickups.

Hyperloop firm taps auto industry to develop transport tech

Hyperloop firm taps auto industry to develop transport tech

"This is real.

One of the companies looking to turn Elon Musk's "Hyperloop"dream into reality wants to tap into the auto industry for experienced engineers.

"This is real. This is happening," said Brogan BamBrogan, CTO and co-founder of Hyperloop Technology Inc, in a talk at the 2016 SAE World Congress.

Hyperloop Technology is about to go on a hiring spree, and BamBrogan believes Detroit can supply it with engineers, reports Automotive News (subscription required). BamBrogan is a Detroit native and worked as a contract engineer for Chrysler, but moved west to become one of the first 25 engineers at Elon Musk's SpaceX company.

Hyperloop Technology currently has about 140 engineers but plans to hire 60 to 80 more this year and another 120 to 200 next year, BamBrogan said. The company's immediate goals include building a test track and finding ways to address the cost of the system, which currently stands at $15 million per kilometer of two-way track, according to BamBrogan. That's without the costs of land and station construction factored in.

The two-mile test track will be built in North Las Vegas, Nevada. Hyperloop Technology previously said it will build one track solely to test ways of propelling the pods, which Musk's original Hyperloop white paper said would travel at speeds of around 700 mph. Another track will then be built to test the entire system.

Hyperloop Technology isn't the only company trying to build a full-scale Hyperloop. The similarly-named Hyperloop Transportation Technologies (HTT) plans to build a five-mile test track in California's Quay Valleythat will be used to transport residents of an area development. HTT expects that project to cost $100 to $170 million. HTT has also discussed possible locations for a full-scale Hyperloop. This would likely be outside the U.S., specifically in a country with less existing transportation infrastructure.

Besides the two startups, global infrastructure firm AECOM plans to build a Hyperloop test track adjacent to the SpaceX headquarters in Hawthorne, California. This track will reportedly be 1.0-mile long and will be built for half-scale test pods that won't carry people.

Alphabet funded Sidewalk Labs to fix big urban problems, and one way of doing it is to build the city of the future from the ground up.

By tech2 News Staff /  18 Apr 2016 , 12:50

Alphabet funded Sidewalk Labs to fix big urban problems, and one way of doing it is to build the city of the future from the ground up. A report posted ondetails efforts by Sidewalk head Don Doctoroff to invite bids from counties and states for a digital district, and a possible city construction project. At the same time, Sidewalk is holding talks with technologists and urbanists to figure聽out the details of constructing a techno-utopia. Having its own city will allow Sidewalk Labs to rapidly test and deploy and emerging technologies.

The Verge had reported earlier on Sidewalkfor the purpose of making urban lives better. This team’s mandate was to create new products that solve urban problems. The fallout has been a bunch of interesting questions, including “what if the city itself is the technological product that can solve urban problems” and “how to make cities better for autonomous vehicles?”

The smart city vision of Sidewalk labs includes high speed, cheap internet access to all residents聽and聽cities built for large number of hybrid self driving cars.聽Congestion of vehicles can be managed by mobility applications. High cost of home ownership can be mitigated by聽using new materials and innovative ownership models. Renewable energy systems can be used to reduce the carbon footprint of fossil fuels.

Tesla to offer free Autopilot month-long trial for current owners

Owners of Tesla Model S and Model X electric vehicles who didn't pony up for the automaker's Autopilot system can test it out for a month for free.

If they like it, they can add the software—the hardware is already there—for $3,000. The prize for declining it initially? Buyers get to pay $500 more than they would have for a Model S or Model X that left the factory with the system.

DON'T MISS: Tesla Model 3 first ride

Autopilot is Tesla-speak for the company's high-tech autonomous quite, which allows drivers to lift their hands from the steering wheel in certain driving conditions. A Tesla optioned with the system's software will move on its own thanks to its radar, cameras, and ultrasonic sensors that read road information and relay it to the vehicle's steering and brakes.

Tesla launched Autopilot about six months ago, and while it isn't fully autonomous in that it can't read traffic lights, it does at least allow drivers a relatively high degree of hands-off motoring. Similar systems are available in BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Infiniti, and other premium brand vehicles.

The system has received generally rave reviewsfrom Tesla owners, though it was subject to some initial teething issues. The automaker hasn't said just what the take-rate has been for the option since it hit the market.

Twitter amounts to a mere 1.5% traffic for typical news organisations says report

Twitter amounts to a mere 1.5% traffic for typical news organisations says report

2
16 Apr 2016 , 10:51
Although micro-blogging site Twitter has been providing fodder for news hunters for years, new research shows that there’s been a sharp decline in the news flow to and from news organisations on the website.

The microblogging platform is now responsible for just 1.5% of traffic for a typical news organisation, says the study carried out by the social analytics company Parse.ly.

The median number of tweets per news post comes in at a measly eight, with just three clicks per tweet, and 0.7 retweets for each original tweet, Digital Trends website reported.

The median publisher saw roughly eight tweets per post, three clicks per tweet and 0.7 retweets for each original tweet, it added.

There are certainly some digitally-savvy publishers who are performing better across social media.

“It is not necessarily about the amount of Twitter activity a publication maintains,” Parse.ly noted.

Rather, the websites achieving high levels of engagement “are producing interesting and shareable content that appeals to a large number of people.”

The top five percent of publishers average 11% of traffic from the site. Organisations like Nieman Lab saw 15% of their traffic come in through Twitter — mostly because its “audience is made up of digitally savvy journalists.”

“Though Twitter may not be a huge overall source of traffic to news websites relative to Facebook and Google, it serves a unique place in the link economy,” the report said.

“News really does ‘start’ on Twitter,” it added. Even if that’s so, though, Twitter doesn’t seem to do much to actually disseminate news.
