‘BioShock’ Studio Irrational Games ‘Winding Down’ to Make Room for New Project
Last week’s announcement of the Video Game BAFTA nominees included a respectable four nominations for Irrational Games ‘ skybound shooter BioShock Infinite , which was included in the categories for Artistic Achievement, Audio Achievement, Original Music and Best Performer.

, which was included in the categories for Artistic Achievement, Audio Achievement, Original Music and Best Performer. At the time however, we speculated that the notable lack of nominations for Best Game or Best Story might have had something to do with the critical backlash that began a few months after the initial praise that followed the game’s release.

One popular criticism of BioShock Infinite (partly because it gave journalists the opportunity to use the phrase “ludonarrative dissonance” with gleeful abandon) was that the story was undermined by the persistent presence of standard shooter gameplay. It’s uncertain whether writer and director Ken Levine took these words to heart or whether he has been interested in doing something different for a while now anyway, but Irrational’s co-founder has today announced his intention to move on from the world of AAA shooters.

In a post on Irrational’s website, Levine recapped his fond memories of creating the studio’s successes – including the original BioShock and its spiritual predecessor, System Shock 2 – and has said that he is “winding down Irrational Games as you know it” and “starting a smaller, more entrepreneurial endeavor at Take-Two.” All but fifteen members of the Irrational team will be laid off, but the studio will give them time to put together their portfolios and also organize a recruitment day in which 3rd party studios and publishers will be invited to interview the departing staff.

BioShock Infinite Ending Details

This doesn’t necessarily mean that there won’t be any more BioShock games, just that there won’t be any more BioShock games made by the Irrational team. Levine says that he is “handing the reins [over] to 2K,” who may well find another studio to continue the franchise. The last time a BioShock game was made by a developer other than Irrational it wasn’t very warmly received by fans, but perhaps a fresh set of hands can do something new with the formula.

The reason behind the change is creative rather than financial. Levine states that he wishes to take a new direction in his career, making “narrative-driven games for the core gamer that are highly replayable.” He’s also saying goodbye to disc-based distribution and will instead focus exclusively on digitally-delivered content, since he believes that this approach will “foster the most direct relationship with our fans possible.”

SHODAN in System Shock 2

SHODAN in System Shock 2

Levine and co. will still be working under the Take-Two umbrella, so this doesn’t mean that he’s going fully independent, but there is every indication that he wants to adopt a more independent model of production and distribution. Recent years have seen narrative-driven indie games like Gone Home and The Walking Dead gain increasing attention from both gamers and critics, and there’s definitely plenty to indicate that there’s a market for games with more to their goals than scoring headshots.

It will be sad to see Irrational (as we know it) go, but overall this announcement definitely sounds like positive news and it will be exciting to see what Levine is cooking up next. The fact that Irrational veterans will be distributed throughout other game studios and publishers probably won’t hurt either.

[Update: BioShock will continue without Irrational Games]

Final Fantasy 15 Will Definitely Launch in 2016

Final Fantasy 15 game director Hajime Tabata announces that the highly anticipated game will finally launch at some point by the end of 2016 for PS4 and Xbox One.

image description

2016 is an exciting year to be a gamer. There’s plenty of new IP to be enthused about, as well as new entries in well-established franchises. In regards to the latter, gamers can now rest easy knowing that the long-awaited Final Fantasy 15 is guaranteed to release by the end of the year for PS4 and Xbox One after a decade in development.

This news comes straight from game director Hajime Tabata, who announced‘s 2016 release window in a New Year’s blog post. In the same post, Tabata confirmed that the game was in its final phase of development, which should come as no surprise considering Final Fantasy 15 is now playable from start to finish.

Tabata also expressed gratitude to fans for their support over the years, dating back to the days when the game was known as Final Fantasy Versus 13 . Fans aided in the development of Final Fantasy 15 by playing the Episode Duscae demo, which offered the developers at Square Enix valuable feedback, something else that Tabata is grateful for.

Even so, there are those that have reservations and doubts that Final Fantasy 15 will be able to deliver. After all, Final Fantasy 14 originally launched as a broken mess, and Final Fantasy 13 did not earn the same acclaim as its predecessors. However, Tabata has reassured fans that his team is going all out for FF15 .

“I vow to you all that every member in the team will do their best to the very last possible moment taking responsibility and pride in their craft. We will do everything we can do to finish FFXV to create an experience we are incredibly proud of and one that you will enjoy and treasure.”

Having confirmation that Final Fantasy 15 will finally hit store shelves in 2016 is nice, but we still aren’t sure when exactly fans can expect to get their hands on the game. That being said, Square Enix previously stated that a Final Fantasy 15 release datewould be announced in March, so we should know when FF15 is launching in just a couple of months.

may just be the most authentic take on TV’s 2D township the games industry has yet produced. In keeping with the spirit of the show, and in particular its abundant love of funny, unfunny and somehow funny again skits, this soon-to-be-released title has tweaked and tested fans with an increasingly erratic schedule.

Announced in 2011and delayed in 2012, promised for, and finally (hopefully) delivered in Marchof this year, Obsidian‘s outlandish RPG has plenty to live up to where rampant hype and expectation is concerned. Thankfully, the game does at least look the part, with 3 new videos showcasing the series’ effortless transition from screen to software.

Kicking off with a brief “sizzle reel” spot — available to view above – and featuring appearances from the likes of zombie Chef, Proffessor Chaos and a pair of convincingly attired ‘Visitors,’ the cameos continue in two additional promos – featuring a Mr. Hankey themed sewer level and a nazified ginger kid.

In other South Park news, Ubisoft has revealed that the title will not require the company’s own Uplay platform in order to launch on PCs. Unlike EA, with its Origin digital system — which necessitates a login for games including Titanfall – Ubi’s smaller format should have no bearing on how players choose to use their copies of The Stick of Truth .Also unlike Origin, the game will appear on Valve’s Steam network, where it can currently be pre-ordered for $59.99.

Included in the price of the game is a special pre-order incentive — the so-called ‘Ultimate Fellowship Pack,’ featuring 4 stat boosting costumes. Necromancer Sorcerer Costume: Bonus Fire Damage Ranger Elf Costume: Bonus Weapon Damage Rogue Assassin Costume: Bonus Gold Holy Defender Costume: Bonus Defenses

Given the game’s next-gen asking price, fans are unlikely to take a chance on the title without having first consulted a number of critical reviews. Even then, at $60 a pop, many gamers will likely hold out for a significant price drop, bringing the title more in line with other current-gen releases, such as Fable Anniversary ($40). With two major delays already endured, it’s a real shame fans are being asked to pick between such a hefty sum and suffering another extended wait.

Is $60 a fair price to pay for South Park: The Stick of Truth ? What kind of pre-order incentives would you like to see from the game? Does a lack of Uplay connectivity help or hinder Ubisoft’s growing platform? Let us know in the comments below, and be sure to check in with all of the latest Ubisoft news, right here on Game Rant.

South Park: The Stick of Truth releases March 4, 2014 in North America and March 7, 2014 throughout Europe. The title is currently being developed for Xbox 360, PC and PlayStation 3 platforms.

Next-Gen Jeep Wrangler To Lose Solid Axle Along With Weight?

Next-Gen Jeep Wrangler To Lose Solid Axle Along With Weight?

Manley did not say that the solid axle would definitely be nixed, but according to Automotive News, Chrysler's advertisements for next-gen Wrangler engineers point to a lighter vehicle with more electronic features.

Like the Porsche 911 or the Ford Mustang, change doesn't come easily to the Jeep Wrangler. So fans might find the latest news about the next-generation model a tad upsetting.

In an effort to save weight, the next Wrangler--due in 2016-- may ditch its solid axles, Jeep brand boss Mike Manley told Automotive News (sub. required).

MUST READ: 2014 Jeep Wrangler Review

Stricter fuel-economy standards are putting pressure on Jeep engineers to lighten the Wrangler, and an independent suspension setup would do just that.

However, it might test the loyalty of Jeep buyers.

DON'T MISS: Jeep Wrangler Polar Edition Arrives Just In Time For Winter

The Wrangler's uncompromising design makes it one of the most capable off-road vehicles in showrooms today. Its old school suspension also makes the Wrangler easy to customize, which is why you'll probably see many Wranglers with massive tires towering over the crowds at the 2013 SEMA show.

In addition to keeping that sales momentum up, Jeep may have to deal with criticism from its hardcore fans, many of whom were already put off by the radically-new 2014 Cherokee.

With a large base of existing customers on one side, and stricter regulations on the other, it looks like the next Wrangler will be a balancing act for Jeep.

A. Kahn Design Jeep Wrangler Stars Alongside Tom Cruise In ‘Edge of Tomorrow’

A. Kahn Design Jeep Wrangler Stars Alongside Tom Cruise In ‘Edge of Tomorrow’

We’ve seen and heard a lot about all the cars featured in the latest Transformers movie, Transformers: Edge of Extinction , but now we have details on a very special vehicle that starred alongside Tom Cruise in the latest sci-fi flick Edge of Tomorrow .

. That vehicle is a bespoke Jeep Wrangler, built by British tuner and coachbuilder A. Kahn Design.

The vehicle was built by A. Kahn’s Chelsea Truck Company, which specializes in off-road vehicles, and is known as the CJ300 LE. It’s based on a diesel-powered Jeep Wrangler Sahara but features a number of upgrades including a satin exterior finish, crosshair headlights, a custom grille and Kahn-designed wheels.

The requirement for the movie was a military-esque vehicle, and after one look at the CJ300 LE the producers were on the phone to A. Kahn Design requesting to have the vehicle in a starring role.

These photos were taken on the set of Edge of Tomorrow and show the vehicle just before it was used during filming of a crucial scene. We won’t ruin the movie for anyone that’s yet to see it, but in it Tom Cruise’s character William Cage needs to roll under the Jeep as it passes by. Already, the gasp-worthy scene has proven a significant talking point among commentators and movie reviewers.

2018 Jeep Wrangler To Get Lighter, More Efficient

2018 Jeep Wrangler To Get Lighter, More Efficient

Worry not, Wrangler fans: The next generation of Jeep's iconic off-roader will retain all the abilities you know and love.

will retain all the abilities you know and love. That's the plan anyway, but Jeep also wants the new model to join the rest of the industry and aim for lighter weight and improved fuel economy.

Speaking to Edmunds , Jeep boss Mike Manley says the company must be "innovative" in its approach to the next Wrangler, expected to debut in 2017, as a 2018 model. That innovation is necessary to ensure the Jeep survives into the future, something Manley describes as "vital for the brand".

Development is already underway on the next-generation Wrangler, part of a wide-ranging update to the company's models. Over the next few years the Grand Cherokee will see an update, the Patriot and Compass will both be replaced by a new compact crossover, a new Wrangler and Grand Cherokee will be launched and, in 2018, the brand is expected to launch a new Grand Wagoneer. All these changes also kick off with this year's all-new Renegade compact crossover.

What the next Wrangler must do is improve on the current model's 18 mpg combined rating (17 mpg city, 21 mpg highway). Currently, the Wrangler uses a 3.6-liter V-6, but Manley says there will be "continued improvements" to the company's powertrains. A diesel model may be considered, if the take-up of current Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel sales doubles to 16 percent of total GC sales. The next Wrangler will sit on its own platform though, rather than an adaptation of one of the firm's more road-biased platforms—the Jeep boss says he wants to "push the benchmark even further".

That's extra important when an all-new Land Rover Defenderis also on the way over the next few years—one that takes the current (but unavailable in the U.S.) Defender and modernizes it to the standards car buyers now expect. The next-gen Wrangler will definitely be a vehicle to watch.

Bloodborne Guide: How to Easily Beat Rom the Vacuous Spider

Bloodborne Guide: How to Easily Beat Rom the Vacuous Spider

Whether it’s in Dark Souls , Demon’s Souls , or their new PS4-exclusive IP Bloodborne , developer From Software loves to challenge their players.

image description

loves to challenge their players. However, not all challenges in a From Software game are made equal, as evidenced by the various boss battles in Bloodborne .

So far, we’ve featured a wide variety of Bloodborne boss battles, from the intense Father Gascoigne fight to the more subdued (some would even say easy) Hemwick Witchesthrowdown. But looking just beyond that is a boss fight that poses a new challenge.

Rom the Vacuous Spider may not seem like a difficult Bloodborne boss, but even just a quick browsing of Twitter will tell readers otherwise. This, like Vicar Ameliaand the Blood-Starved Beast, is a boss that has been giving many Bloodborne players trouble even though, at face value, it seems so easy.

As with many Bloodborne and Souls bosses, Rom the Vacuous Spider has three main stages. The first is fairly easy, the second gets a little more difficult, and the final stage can be a real test for players; that is, if they aren’t careful. Luckily we are here to help.

Bloodborne Guide Rom

The main obstacle in the Rom boss fight in Bloodborne is the giant spider’s minions. With close to a dozen circling it at any given time, Rom creates a barrier between itself and the player. Most players’ initial inclination will be to race in and do damage to Rom before the minions can attack, but that is ill advised. Rather, it’s better to take out all the minions first, so as to eliminate any random hits from behind, and then work on Rom.

As a result, the Bloodborne boss fight becomes a test in patience. Where as bosses like the Blood-Starved Beastare about getting in, doing damage, and then getting out, Rom the Vacuous Spider is all about preparing for that attack. Luckily, Rom’s spider minions actually teach players how best to approach the boss.

Striking any of the minions from the front will tell players that the head is actually the strongest part of these spider creatures. It’s the back end – basically anything that doesn’t look like the head – that is the weakest. So, the best tactic is to bait the spiders around until they can be struck from behind, and in most cases even just one or two hits (or a molotov cocktail if available) will do the trick.

Players will want to be careful, however, as the spider minions do pack quite a punch. Some hits from the enemies are capable of doing close to half health damage, or if the player is a little under leveled they can kill them outright.

In total, the players should have to eliminate the group of spider minions three times before going in to attack Rom. The first time around that’s pretty easy, but eventually things get more difficult as the Vacuous Spider starts throwing out attacks.

Bloodborne - Rom and Spider Minions

Bloodborne - Rom and Spider Minions

But for the first phase, once the minions are done players can go in and do as much damage to Rom’s backside as they can. Use heavy attacks, charge attacks, throw molotovs and oil urns – whatever works. Eventually, though, the boss will trigger a teleport by spinning around in a circle.

Once Rom returns the battlefield, he will have a new set of minions and now he will start throwing out attacks. He can call down a “hail” of ice shards, send those ice shards up from the ground, pound players with a “wiggle” attack, and do an AOE type web blast. So, while players are once again trying to weed out the minions, they will now have much more to deal with.

The easiest way to manage both the minions and Rom’s attacks is to keep as close to him as possible. His “hail” attacks are much more difficult to dodge than the ones that come up from the floor, so keeping him focused on that option is key. Also, don’t forget to mind the other spider minions while working on eliminating them individually. Then, once the minions are gone again, move in to attack the Bloodborne boss, but be sure to back away any time he rears back to trigger the AOE blast. After a time, Rom should teleport again.

For this final phase, all of Rom’s attacks get more devastating and they include more projectiles. So, where the hail may have been easier to dodge before, now it’s more likely players will get hit once, or even twice by the projectiles. Still, keep focused on staying close and kill the minions one at a time, and try to stay as close to Rom without taking damage from him as possible.

Bloodborne

Bloodborne

Eventually, it will be just the player and Rom the Vacuous Spider, and here it is all about patience. Dodging the wiggle attacks and keeping an eye out for that AOE blast are key, while also doing damage to the boss’s backside. Be patient and Rom will fall, but don’t hesitate to heal up to full health, because any of Rom’s attacks are capable of killing the player in one shot.

Ultimately, the boss fight poses a challenge because of the patience required, and each attack packs a wallop. It will be players’ first inclination to ignore the spider minions altogether, but doing so is a huge mistake. It takes time, but make sure to clear out all those adds first and then work on Rom; it will make a huge difference. Not a particularly challenging boss when you get down to it, but one that has still been giving players trouble.

BUT, if that strategy hasn’t been working – say, you’re trying to beat Bloodborne without leveling– here’s an even easier strategy. It’s a little cheap, but sometimes you have to fight fire with literal fire.

Do you have any helpful strategies for beating Rom the Vacuous Spider? If any of Bloodborne ‘s earlier bosses are giving you trouble, make sure to check out our other guides:

Batman: Arkham Knight’ E3 Gameplay Trailer Shows Batmobile in Action

Batman: Arkham Knight’ E3 Gameplay Trailer Shows Batmobile in Action

‘Batman: Arkham Knight’ E3 Gameplay Trailer Shows Batmobile in Action
Batman: Arkham Knight has received a few incredibly impressive cinematic trailers so far, but up until tonight, gameplay footage was in short supply for the upcoming final chapter in RockSteady’s Batman series.

image description

series. That all changed this evening during the Sony E3 2014 presentation when audiences were treated to nearly five minutes of gameplay footage.

The Arkham games have always been visually stunning, but the new-gen installment in the franchise really takes things to the next level. The environments, the movement of Batman and his enemies, and every detail of the city are all incredibly well-polished. The footage kicks off with Bruce suiting up while talking to Oracle and the action doesn’t slow down for the next four minutes.

Although watching Batman walk around and glide over the city was impressive enough to get us excited for the game, the main attraction of the gameplay footage was the focus on the Batmobile. The vehicle has been the main talking point since the game was announced, so it’s no surprise to see a large chunk of the trailer’s time dedicated to Batman’s main source of transportation and heavy artillery.

Batmobile vs Tanks

We’d seen a sneak peak of the Batmobile speeding through the city in a previous gameplay preview, but the new footage gives us our first real look at the ride’s transformation into Battle Mode. The car shifts into tank mode and unleashes a number of weapons when the headlights switch from blue to red and from there it leaves a trail of debris everywhere it goes.

The high-powered weapons will be used to blast through tanks and other large obstacles that would slow Batman down as he races across the enormous Gotham map. The side-to-side strafing does look a little strange in action, but it might make more sense once we’ve had some hands-on experience with the combat. Once the fighting wraps up, we get to see the Batmobile’s eject function, which leads right into the new and improved glide ability.

Sony confirmed that the PS4 version of the game will offer exclusive Scarecrow Nightmare missions.

Are you looking forward to the focus on the Batmobile in Arkham Knight or would you rather the game concentrate on small scale combat? Let us know in the comments.

Batman: Arkham Knight will be released on PC, PS4 and Xbox One in 2015.

How Big is the Map in The Division?

How Big is the Map in The Division?

A YouTuber named MarcoStyle measures out the map of The Division and directly compares it to the in-game worlds of both Grand Theft Auto 5 and Fallout 4 .

image description

There’s been plenty of speculation about how big the map size of The Division really is, especially since Ubisoft has hyped that the in-game Midtown Manhattan area was a one-to-one scale recreation of the famous borough. Some gamers felt like their beta experienceforwas an indicator that the game wouldn’t feel as big as promised, so a YouTuber named MarcoStyle decided to set the record straight with some cold, hard math.

So that gamers had a frame of reference, Marco compared the map size of The Division to the maps from Fallout 4 and Grand Theft Auto 5 . To ensure that each game’s map was set to the same scale, MarcoStyle had to do plenty of converting in terms of each game’s measurements, since all three of the aforementioned titles have completely different units of measurement and different ways of displaying them. Despite the difficulties in doing so, the video below offers a pretty in-depth explanation of the process behind it, and it appears that the math checks out.

The cold streets of New York Cityended up being a respectable 2.8 kilometers long laterally (or 1.7 miles for those non-metric Ranters out there), and when all is said and done, it looks like the streets of The Division will contain plenty to do and see, even when compared to games like Fallout 4 and Grand Theft Auto 5 :

MarcoStyle acknowledges that there are some inherit differences in terms of game design between The Division and Grand Theft Auto 5 that can’t be ignored, such as the fact that the former is designed for players to walk through, whilst the latter can be quickly traversed via car with plenty of offroad shortcuts. Much like The Division and Destiny , the two just weren’t meant to be directly compared.

Similarly, whilst both The Division and Fallout 4 can only be traversed on foot, plenty of the latter is a barren wasteland, and the post-apocalyptic New York that is The Division contains a much denser experience with less gaps between structures. Though both maps ended up very similar in terms of size, Bethesda’s game took the player 9 minutes and 12 seconds to traverse from North to South, whilst agents from The Division could expect to traverse laterally across the map in 8 minutes and 10 seconds, provided they don’t run into any obstacles like gates, blocked roads, or buildings.

Tom Clancy’s The Division is scheduled to release on March 8th, 2016, for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare’ Guide: Unlock Exploding Burgers Weapon

‘Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare’ Guide: Unlock Exploding Burgers Weapon
Although most hard to believe headlines were actually not true yesterday, there are some bizarre stories that ended up being real.

image description

Although most hard to believe headlines were actually not true yesterday, there are some bizarre stories that ended up being real. A few games dropped some April Fools’ ridiculousnessinto patches this week and gamers have been having a good time discovering and exploring them. It may not be directly tied to the psuedo-holiday, but the Exo Zombies DLC for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare has an easter egg that is weird enough to sound like a prank.

Youtuber NoahJ456makes an effort to be the first streamer to discover as many easter eggs as possible and he has delivered once again. His latest video offers a full breakdown of how to solve the hidden puzzles that are buried in the Exo Zombies’ add-on Ascendence DLC. The culmination of the scavenger hunt is the ability to battle zombies with exploding hamburgers. If that’s not worth the work, we’re not sure what is.

If players are up to the challenge, they can watch NoahJ456’s video tutorialor follow along with our step-by-step guide. To get started, players will need to head into the sewers to turn off four valves. Once all the valves have sequentially been deactivated, players will be able to step behind the waterfall and discover the alter.

Like any altar, this one requires an offering. Visit one of the nearby buildings and you’ll find a frying pan hidden on a beam. To get the burgers started, players need to retrieve the frying pan and take it to the altar. At this point, prepare for some trouble. Once the pan is placed on the altar, lots of zombies will start spawning all around the room. The goal here is to take down the zombies close enough to the altar to splatter blood all over the frying pan and the altar itself.

Call of Duty Meat Spawn

Call of Duty Meat Spawn

The pieces of meat need to be carried back to the frying pan one at a time. Once you have enough to form a patty, it’s time to apply some heat. Zap the patty with the microwave gun until a ‘ding’ signals that the meat is ready. Unless you’re avoiding carbs, the next step is to acquire some bread by killing zombies in Burger Town employee uniforms until one of them drops a bun. Retrieve the bun and take it back to your cooked patty.

If the burger isn’t cleansed, it will turn you into one of the infected shortly after picking it up. Once you are ready, pick the burger up and high tail it to the cleansing area directly below the kitchen. The clean hamburger can then be delivered to Bubby, the Big Boy-esque mascot. After accepting the gift, Bubby will request new batteries, which triggers the next phase.

Return to the spawn point of the Atlas area, where you’ll find a blueprint of Bubby. Players need to hold X next to the blueprint and listen for an activation beep. Once the sound happens, you’ll need to race to the nearby battery drawer and retrieve the battery. The battery is out of juice and needs to be charged up at the voltage station outside. Zombies will try to break the station, so be ready to defend your battery as it charges.

Take the charged (now red) battery back to Bubby and trade it to him for a key. With the key in your grip, you can now climb the Burger Town tower and begin the last phase. Players will get an access denied message off the center control console inside the tower and can then leave the tower. At this point, it’s time to return to the sewers and find the severed arm of a Burger Town employee, which is in the stomach of an alligator.

Take the arm to the spawn area and trade it in for a red key card. Take the new key card back to the tower console and use it to launch a missile into the air and unlock the hamburger-shaped bombs. To secure your well-earned achievement, grab the keycard and take it back to Bubby.

Congratulations. You’ve just unlocked 50 points for the Meat is Murder Achievement.

What do you think of the elaborate Meat is Murder easter egg? Will you be taking the time to unlock it? Let us know in the comments.

The price of entry into desert racing just got a little cheaper. Tuff Stuff 4x4 is developing a Jeep Wrangler designed for intense desert racing for under $50,000.

The firm says its desert racing Jeep will be the cheapest of its kind ever built to withstand the rigors of SCORE International and Best in the Desert racing in the Jeepspeed series.

Jeepspeed, divided into three classes, serves as something of a training ground for desert racing and it was inspired by a Toyota-only series at the Dakar Rally. Rules for the classes are tight, but they allow for lightly-modified Jeep vehicles like the Cherokee and Wrangler to compete.

Some drivers have already been signed up to compete with the Jeep Wrangler racer this season. They include Brett Maister, Mike Barnette, and Matt Lovell, all of whom are highly experienced desert racers.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare’ Ascendance DLC Trailer: Burger Town Returns!

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare’ Ascendance DLC Trailer: Burger Town Returns!

‘Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare’ Ascendance DLC Trailer: Burger Town Returns!

image description

Although many gamers may have turned their focus from last year’s hot FPS releases to the new content for 2015, that doesn’t mean the developers have abandoned their current products. Plenty of DLC schedules are still in full effect, as evidenced by the release of Dragon Age: Inquisition ’s Jaws of Hakkon add-onearlier this week.

However, when it comes to DLC few can top Call of Duty , which saw a slight rebound in 2014 thanks to the success of Advanced Warfare . That game deviated from the COD formula enough to get fans (new and old) excited, but new developer Sledgehammer Gameswants to ensure that interest stays high for as long as possible.

That plan started first with the Havoc DLCfor Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare , which introduced the usual set of four multiplayer maps, as well as a new weaponand an Exo Zombies campaign mission. Its follow-up, the appropriately titled Ascendance, will follow Havoc with a similar selection of post-release content. For a closer look, check out the trailer above.

Call of Duty Advanced Warfare Ascendance DLC Trailer

Call of Duty Advanced Warfare Ascendance DLC Trailer

While the design of the new multiplayer maps is sure to catch Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare fans’ attention, our focus is on the new Exo Zombies campaign mission. With a lot of talk over a potential Modern Warfare 2 remake, it’s interesting to see the iconic Burger Town location make a return, albeit with an overabundance of undead running around.

Equally intriguing is the new OHM Directed-Energy Heavy Weapon that launches with the Ascendance DLC. We’ve already seen laser guns in the main game and as DLC before, but the OHM takes things to a new level with its quick-change ability. Essentially, the OHM Directed Energy gun is like an LMG and a shotgun rolled into one, capable of dealing devastating damage at range and up close. It actually reminds us of The Ripper from Call of Duty: Ghosts ’ DevastationDLC pack in the way it switches between weapon types.

Call of Duty Ascendance DLC - Burger Town Map

Call of Duty Ascendance DLC - Burger Town Map

We also would be remiss for not mentioning the return of the Kill Cameraman, who made his triumphant debut in the Havoc DLC trailer. Once again, the Kill Cameraman is up to his usual tricks, but is no less entertaining.

All told, the Ascendance DLC should hit that sweet spot for Advanced Warfare players looking for more content. New maps, a zombies campaign mission, and a cool weapon is a well-rounded package, and we bet many players are chomping at the bit to give them a spin next week.

What do you think of the Ascendance DLC selection? Which element are you most intrigued by?

Black Ops 3’s Next Zombies Map Brings Back Original Cast

Black Ops 3’s Next Zombies Map Brings Back Original Cast

Activsion releases a fresh Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 trailer for Der Eisendrache, the next map for the game’s Zombies mode, featuring the return of Origins characters.

image description

In order to publicize the release datefor Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 ‘s Awakening DLC, publisher Activision has put out a brand new trailer featuring Origins characters Doctor Edward Richtofen, Sergeant Nikolai Belinski, Captain Takeo Masaki, and Corporal “Tank” Dempsey in the first-person shooter’s new map for its Zombies mode, Der Eisendrache. The quartet of heroes will be up against the undead for what’s essentially a suicide mission in a medieval castle that’s built upon an “ancient site of unspeakable horror” where large amounts of Element 115 – that is, a resource harvested from meteorites – have been discovered.

As is customary with‘s Zombies mode, fans should expect to slay hordes of the walking dead in order to survive. However, there will also be plenty of surprises, narrative twists, and Easter eggsto discover along the way, as players attempt to foil yet another Nazi plot in what is just the first chapter in the game’s overarching Zombies adventure.

Thanks to Activision and Sony inking a timed-exclusive DLC deal, on February 2, 2016, PlayStation fans will be the first to receive the new area a month before those who play the game on other platforms, which may be a disappointment to PC players and Xbox One owners. At any rate, the content will still make its way to all versions soon enough, so for a better idea of what the forthcoming Zombies map has in store for players, check out Black Ops 3 ‘s Der Eisendrache trailer below.

On top of Der Eisendrache, Black Ops 3 ‘s Awakening DLCwill also dole out 4 new multiplayer maps to keep gamers flush with fresh content. Each of the areas have distinctive attributes, with Rise being a construction site, Splash taking place at an abandoned water theme park, Gauntlet letting gamers explore a military facility, and Skyjacked being a floating airshipand revamped version the yacht in Black Ops 2 ‘s multiplayer map, Hijacked.

With Call of Duty ‘s Zombies mode arguably being the most popular feature of the franchise, Activision’s and Treyarch’s decision to include throwback characters from the previous entry in the Black Ops series ought to please die-hard fans. Nevertheless, considering the fact that the title’s sales made it 2015’s highest selling gameafter only being out for a little under two months last year, even if the publisher and developer decided to take Zombies in a completely different direction, the Awakening DLC would still go on to be a rousing success.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is out now and is available for PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.

Zombies Returning in ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops 3’

Zombies Returning in ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops 3’

After rumors began circulating last month, Activision has finally confirmed that this year’s entry in the smash-hit shooter franchise, Call of Duty , will be none other than Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 .

image description

. This will come across as great news for those that were hoping to dive back into the universe that first introduced the fan-favorite characters of Frank Woods, Alex Mason and more.

While the story itself has been closely followed and preferred by some fans, however, one of the most appealing aspects of any Treyarch-made Call of Duty title has always been Zombie mode – something that will allegedly be returning in the upcoming third iteration of Black Ops later this year.

The inclusion of the beloved Zombies mode in the new game was first discovered within the source code for the newly launched Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 website. Originating from the official description that’s been tucked away within the site itself, fans learned that they’ll be able to shoot up the undead with friends – undoubtedly to the shared delight of a bounty of other consumers.

“With three unique game modes: Campaign, Multiplayer and Zombies, [Black Ops 3 provides] fans with the deepest and most ambitious Call of Duty ever.”

Following the arrival of pricey Exo Zombies DLC in Advanced Warfare , it’ll be a relief for gamers hoping to have the mode featured within the core game itself. It’ll be interesting to see how Treyarch plans on handling the living dead this time around. Whatever the developer has planned, be sure to stick to Game Rant for updates on Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 and its Zombies modes.

Lexus LF-LC Concept Debuts At 2012 Detroit Auto Show

Lexus LF-LC Concept Debuts At 2012 Detroit Auto Show

Though the 2013 Lexus GS sedan has already taken the Lexus brand in a new--and we think positive--design direction, the future beyond the GS is being previewed this week with the new LF-LC Concept, penned in the company's Calty design studio.

"The concept we're showing here in Detroit continues the Lexus design revolution started with the CT and GS," said Lexus group vice president and general manager Mark Templin.

So what is this new direction? As you can see from the images, the exterior is dynamic, with lots of glass and complex curved surfaces. The interior focuses on high tech contrasted with shapes and materials derived from organic sources. While the extensive use of glass isn't likely a production-intent element, the general themes, shapes, and details are likely to be found in the next round of product updates at Lexus.

The nose, particularly the grille, headlights, and bumper styling, are especially likely to find production use, as the 2013 GS already exhibits similar features. For less dramatically-styled cars, expect to see cues that reference the LF-LC's design, including mesh grilles, L-shaped daytime running lights, and vertical fog lamps.

Inside, the cockpit is clearly driver-focused, with scooped side panels and a curved console centering the attention on the behind-the-wheel seat. Touchscreen controls through a pair of 12.3-inch LCD panels enable easy driver input without distracting from the road--or at least that's the intent.

A front-engine, rear-drive hybrid power train brings the LF-LC together with a sporting layout to match its sporty design. Lexus calls the power train Advanced Lexus Hybrid Drive, and says it promises, "a rewarding driving experience that is also kinder to the environment."

Black Ops 3 DLC is Coming to PS3, No Word on Xbox 360

Black Ops 3 DLC is Coming to PS3, No Word on Xbox 360

Activision confirms that PS3 gamers will soon be able to access the Awakening Map Pack for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 .

image description

. No news for Xbox 360 gamers, though.

Those playing Call of Duty: Back Ops 3 on a PlayStation 3 will finally be getting some new content next week, with the long-awaited arrival of the Awakening DLC. It was originally reported that themap pack wouldn’t be coming to previous generation consoles, but Activision is evidently happy to keep the good times rolling. Treyarch produced a game packed to the brim with content, and the backbone of the billion-dollar annualized series has always been multiplayer.

The Awakening DLC was originally announced 3 months ago, meaning that PS3 users have been waiting a long time to hear the good news. Prior to the announcement of Awakening, though, Activision revealed a brand new microtransaction systemfor Black Ops 3 , which allows gamers to purchase gear instead of earning it through gameplay. While not everyone may like the direction this points the series into, it probably made the idea of bringing the additional content to PS3 much more attractive to the publisher.

The Awakening Map Pack includes Skyjacked (a futuristic version of popularmap Hijacked), Splash, Gauntlet, and Rise. With Rise being one of the biggest maps in the game and Splash being an abandoned water park that looks more likeleftovers than a Call of Duty map, there’s no doubting that the Awakening DLC adds plenty of punch and diversity to the map arsenal of Black Ops 3 . Awakening also brings in a brand new zombies map called Der Eisendrache, which is set in an Austrian castle and introduces two new wonder weapons into the fold.

Meanwhile, Xbox 360 gamers are still being left in the dark about if they’ll eventually get to access the content too, thanks to a timed-exclusive agreement between Sony and Activision. Even on current genration platforms, Xbox One gamers had to wait about a month longer than their PS4-based counterparts, so if the content does eventually come to Xbox 360, gamers should expect a similar wait time.

For PS3 players, the Awakening Map Pack will arrive next Tuesday, April 5th with an expected $14.99 USD price tag. The purchase includes a static theme for the PS3 itself, though unfortunately no Season’s Pass is available for those playing from the last generation of consoles. Activision has yet to announce if other Map Packs will arrive for either PS3 or Xbox 360.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Best Played on PS4, According to Sony

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Best Played on PS4, According to Sony

In commemoration of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 ‘s release today, Sony declares that Activision’s and Treyarch’s first-person shooter is best experienced on the PS4.

image description

Sony Computer Entertainment’s Vice President of Publisher & Development Relations, Adam Boyes, has declared that PlayStation 4 is the “best place to play” Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 . The full statement from the tech firm executive regarding the matter makes reference to Sony’s co-marketing and exclusivity partnership made with Activison that was announced back at E3 2015 in June.

Rather than have Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 ‘s promotional materials, services, and products cater to Microsoft as was the standard in the past, the futuristic first-person shooter will have materials such as timed-exclusive DLCavailable on PlayStation platforms first. Not to mention, its advertising has prominently featured Sony’s next-gen console rather than Xbox. Regarding the matter, Boyes said:

“This is a[n] historic partnership that makes PlayStation the best place to play Call of Duty . The massive reception to the game’s multiplayer betaonly a few months ago demonstrated the huge appetite our fans have for this franchise and the anticipation for Black Ops III . This is the game our fans want, and we’re proud to welcome Call of Duty to its new home on PlayStation 4.”

call-duty-black-ops-3-best-ps4-sony-gameplay

call-duty-black-ops-3-best-ps4-sony-gameplay

Much like Sony’s recent declaration of shooter fans switching to PS4, Boyes’ announcement today is certainly hyperbolic. Nevertheless, his claim is to be expected due to the Japan-based multinational having inked a deal with Activision. After all, Sony has definitely gone all out as far as publicity for the game goes. The company even created a unique PS4 1 TB bundlewith designs and color schemes reminiscent of those found in Black Ops 3 .

While Sony is indeed confident about Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 ‘s future on the PlayStation 4, Xbox’s Aaron Greenbergremains unruffled by the matter, citing the Xbox One’s strong line-up of shooters in addition to Treyarch’s, including Halo and Gears of War . Plus, he proclaimed that in the end, Microsoft’s current-gen system will eventually get all of the content related to Black Ops 3 that Sony’s does.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is available now for PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.

The Lexus LF-LC is a rarity among modern auto show concepts: it's an actual concept.

is a rarity among modern auto show concepts: it's an actual concept. It's not intended to directly preview any production model, and it's certainly not a thinly-veiled production-ready car. It's also pretty daring in its details. And it's a hybrid.

Beyond that, there's not a lot to know about the LF-LC. It's a two-door coupe, it looks sporty, and the combination of that look with a hybrid drivetrain might presage a legitimate entry into the sport-hybrid arena from Lexus, at least as an idea. But really, who cares if it does anything? It's an actual concept .

LC 500 And LC 500h Names Trademarked, Likely Presages Production Lexus LF-LC Coupe

Although originally intended as a concept to preview future styling themes, rave reviews for Lexus’ LF-LC concept following its reveal at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show persuaded managers to put it into production .

. While there have been rumors the production version of the LF-LC concept will revive Lexus’ SC badge, recent trademark filings made by parent company Toyota suggest the new Lexus coupe will be called a LC when it finally lands in showrooms.

DON'T MISS: Portland Couple Uses Supercar Collection To Make Sick Kids' Dreams Come True

On November 24 of this year, Toyota made trademark filings for the LC 500 and LC 500h names with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office as well as similar registries in other markets. If the names are for the new Lexus coupe, it suggests the car will initially be available in two variants, one of them a hybrid.

This ties in with a previous report that the new Lexus coupe will debut with two powertrains, an uprated version of the 467-horsepower 5.0-liter V-8 powering the 2015 RC Fand a new hybrid setup combining Lexus’ familiar 3.5-liter V-6 with an electric motor for a combined output in excess of 500 horsepower.

Unfortunately, we couldn’t find any trace of an LC F trademark filed by Toyota, though we're still holding out for a dedicated F version of the car.

The new Lexus coupe is expected to go on sale in 2017, meaning we’ll most likely see it arrive as a 2018 model. The car is expected to share its platform with the next-generation LS flagship sedan, due one year earlier, and be priced somewhere between $100,000 and $130,000. Key rivals will be the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe and Maserati GranTurismo.

Nintendo Airing Pokémon Super Bowl Commercial for 20th Anniversary

Nintendo Airing Pokémon Super Bowl Commercial for 20th Anniversary

Pokémon is going to the Super Bowl.

image description

is going to the Super Bowl. Nintendo is announcing plans to show a 30 second commercial celebrating #Pokemon20 at the start of the football game’s third quarter.

After a round of 2015 Super Bowl commercialslaunched several mobile games to new levels of success, it’s no surprise that publishers are starting to eye the opportunity as well. Yet few likely expected the first to throw their hat in the ring to be Nintendo. Today Nintendo announced that they’ll be running a 30 second Pokémon commercial during Super Bowl 50, publishing an extended version of the commercial to Youtube.

The Pokémon commercial will not be advertising a new game, or even a product in general. Rather, the commercial will be a brand awareness focused video celebrating the 20th anniversary of the franchise. Touting the tagline, “Train On.” the 110 second full commercial offers an empowering message, albeit targeted towards younger audiences, about working towards your goals. The positive message offers a correlation between Pokémon and real-life activities like football and chess, implying the meaningful ways even game like Pokémon can effect us all.

Despite the heart shown in the commercial, the heart of the matter is it’s still a commercial. The subject of the matter is #Pokemon20. #Pokemon20 is a year-long event celebrating all things Pokémon, with monthly Mythical Pokémon distributions starting in February, a special edition 3DS bundle with both Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue , and all manner of card, movie and toy-related excitement. It may not be an advertisement for a new Pokémon game, but it may as well have been.

Yet despite the commercialization surrounding #Pokemon20, and of course the commercialization that embodies the Super Bowl and its advertising, the Pokémon Super Bowl is almost touching, and definitely inspiring. It holds a very human message, despite being about a video game franchise of collecting and battling imaginary creatures. Compared to the mobile game Super Bowl commercials of 2015, which focused on advertising other assets, it’s exciting to see what Nintendo has done with this idea.

Does Pokémon necessarily have anything to do with football? It’s a stretch. And does Nintendo spending what’s likely to be millions of dollars on a Pokémon brand awareness advertisement become justified because it’s relatable? That’s probably unreasonable, too. Yet it’s comforting as a game player to see games being shown during the biggest television event of the year in a mature and respectful way. Such a thing is a rarity these days. I think Iwata would approve.

Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow Coming to Nintendo 3DS

Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow Coming to Nintendo 3DS

Nintendo announces that it plans on bringing Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow to the Nintendo 3DS, with wireless trading to make up for the lack of cables.

image description

Ask an average fan of Pokemon which of the many versions is their favorite and they’re likely to respond with the name of one of the original games. This is likely an opinion crafted out of nostalgia, as the franchise has evolved significantly since its North American debut on Game Boy, but there’s no denying that Pokemon Red , Blue , and Yellow hold a special place in the hearts of longtime Pocket Monster aficionados.

Given the popularity that the original titles still hold amongst longtime followers of the franchise, it was seen as incredibly odd that Nintendo never opted to release the old gamesthrough its Virtual Console service on the 3DS. At least, it was until the company announced that it will be doing just that forfans in a few months’ time.

During the latest Nintendo Direct presentation, Nintendo revealed that all three of the aforementioned versions of Pokemon will be making an appearance on the 3DS via its current portable’s digital storefront – the Nintendo eShop. As fans that tuned in quickly found out, the wait for the games won’t be all that long either, as the Big N plans to make the legendary trio of Game Boy titles available for the 3D-enabled handheld on February 27, 2016 to coincide with the 20 thanniversary of their initial release in Japan back in 1996.

As many will immediately point out, however, it seems like it will be impossible to trade the cutesy creatures since the 3DS lacks a link cable – or even a port to plug one in. Luckily, The Pokemon Companyand Ninty have gamers covered there as well, since players will be able to wirelessly trade their various beasts to one another. It’s certainly a more practical take on what more or less equates to a “gotta catch ‘em all” centric trip down memory lane, and one that consumers are sure to appreciate. With that in mind, it would appear that the companies involved have thought of everything – that is to say, everything but word on an official price point.

Are you excited to replay Pokemon Red , Blue , and Yellow on the Nintendo 3DS? What other Pocket Monster games would you like to see make a return on the Virtual Console? Get at us in the comments.

2018 Lexus LC Spy Shots

2018 Lexus LC Spy Shots

Although originally intended as a concept to preview future styling themes, rave reviews following the reveal of the Lexus LF-LC concept at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show persuaded managers to put the stunning two-door into production .

. We now have photos of a prototype for the production version, which is expected to carry the LC title and go on sale sometime in early 2017.

The prototype is clearly for a sleek, sporty coupe with 2+2 seating and proportions very similar to those of the LF-LC concept. And at the front sits a grille with elements similar to those featured on current Lexus models. According to our photographer, the prototype was being benchmarked against a BMW 6-Series and Porsche 911.

While there have been rumors the production version of the LF-LC concept will revive Lexus’ SC badge, trademark filings for “ LC 500” and “LC 500h” made by parent company Toyota last year suggest the new Lexus coupe will be called a LC when it finally lands in showrooms. The trademark filings also provide clues as to the likely powertrains.

Lexus LF-LC Blue Concept

Lexus LF-LC Blue Concept

Enlarge Photo

The LC is expected to be offered initially with two powertrain options: an uprated version of the 467-horsepower 5.0-liter V-8 powering the 2015 RC F, and a new hybrid setup combining Lexus’ latest 3.5-liter V-6 with an electric motor for a total output in excess of 500 hp. You may recall that the LF-LC concept was said to be powered by a new hybrid drivetrain rated at over 500 hp as well. Further down the track an LC F dedicated performance model with a twin-turbocharged V-8 spitting out more than 600 hp may be launched.

Some of the technologies expected to appear on the new LC include a 10-speed automatic from Aisin AW; multi-material construction including components made from steel, aluminum and even some carbon fiber; and torque vectoring.

As mentioned above, the new Lexus coupe isn't expected to go on sale until 2017, at least in the United States, meaning we’ll most likely see it arrive as a 2018 model. The car is expected to ride on a new rear-wheel-drive platform shared with the next-generation LS flagship sedan, which is due roughly one year earlier. Pricing for the LC should fall around the $100k mark.

Right now there’s only one variant, the LC 500, which comes with a 467-horsepower 5.0-liter V-8. We’re expecting this to be joined by an LC 500h at some point. This one will be a hybrid likely combining a V-6 with an electric drive system for a total 500 hp. We’ve still got our fingers crossed for an LC F, though…

Fallout 4 Player Creates an Impressive Giant Fortress

Fallout 4 Player Creates an Impressive Giant Fortress

Instead of creating a simple settlement, one Fallout 4 player goes the extra mile to create a sprawling fortress as a residence in Bethesda’s retro-futuristic RPG.

image description

For those Fallout 4 players who believe that their humble home in the Boston Commonwealthis simply the bee’s knees, after checking out the veritable military compound known as the Fusion Core Fortress, they might want to put in a bit more effort to customize a settlement. Created by a fan going by the online handle “SeraphinFoad”, the structure is basically one giant post-apocalyptic castle, as it’s not only enclosed by massive walls made of “heavy concrete blocks, topped with metal walls and parapets”, but it’s also fortified by turrets and missile platforms at practically every entrance.

In addition to the defenses, the Fallout 4 fortress also serves as a marketplace, a barracks, and even a museum of sorts, for in the center of the stronghold there’s a large display of power armor. While the entire building is incredible to say the least, the “bazaar” is perhaps the most useful, as it contains a ton of merchants that allows SeraphinFord to stock up on gear without ever having to leave home.

As many console gamers will be quick to point out, the Fusion Core Fortress contains assets that are well over Fallout 4 ‘s cap on settlement sizes and object limits, meaning that it had to have been built on PC with the help of mods, as well as cheats and console commands. However, while SeraphinFoad admits to the citadel being created on PC using the “Unlimited Settlement Objects” mod from NexusMods, he said that he only used console commands to remove the HUD and get himself unstuck from water pumps when taking screenshots.

No matter how he got it done, the time and effort SeraphinFoad put into actually building the wonderful monstrosity seen in full in the next page’s gallery is admittedly impressive, as it took him roughly two days in full to erect it. Speaking of which, similar undertakings have been done by other gamers, with one fan constructing a high-rise known as the Tower of Flesh, which took about 20 hours to assemble.

Taking all of this into consideration, Fallout 4 ‘s base game has definitely provided fans with plenty of gameplay to experience. So, once its Season Pass and DLCreleases next year, there’s no telling how long would-be Vault Dwellers will choose to take up residency in the Wasteland.

New BMW 8-Series Due In 2020: Report

New BMW 8-Series Due In 2020: Report

Tired of watching Mercedes-Benz launch hit after hit in the large, luxury coupe and convertible segment, BMW appears to be finally ready to enter the segment with its own offering.

Tired of watching Mercedes-Benz launch hit after hit in the large, luxury coupe and convertible segment, BMW appears to be finally ready to enter the segment with its own offering. That offering is expected to be a large coupe reviving the 8-Series moniker and filling the—very—wide pricing gap between the 7-Series and entry-level Rolls-Royce models.

Citing multiple sources at BMW, Australia’s Drive is reporting that the new 8-Series will enter production at BMW’s main plant in Dingolfing, Germany around 2020. Management are said to be still deciding on whether the car should be a conventional coupe like the original 8-Series or a four-door coupe akin to the 4-Series and 6-Series Gran Coupe models.

Some readers will recall that BMW started work on a large four-door coupebased on its stiking CS concept car of 2007. However, the global financial crisis that erupted that same year put an end to the project.

BMW never gave up on the idea of a large coupe, however, and in 2013 we got a taste of what a modern successor to the 8-Series could be like with the unveiling of the Gran Lusso Coupe concept. Developed together with Pininfarina, the Gran Lusso Coupe marked the start of a partnership between BMW and the Italian design house and also hinted at future styling themes.

Any new 8-Series would almost certainly share its internals and most of its technology with the latest 7-Series. This means we could see a V-12 option offered, just like the original 8-Series. And by the time 2020 rolls around, BMW should also be offering its new Power eDrive plug-in hybrid powertrains.

Mercedes-AMG C43 Coupe Outed In Teaser For New C-Class Cabrio

Mercedes-AMG C43 Coupe Outed In Teaser For New C-Class Cabrio

You may recall that we recently reported on Mercedes-Benz’s decision to group its ‘AMG Sport’ models like the C450 AMG as official Mercedes-AMG products , and together with the reshuffle rechristen the cars with a “43” designation to better reflect their positioning in the performance hierarchy.

The transition started with the 2017 SLC43from the SLC sports car range and will soon lead to the launch of a new C43 as part of the C-Class range. Today we have our first look at the first C43 variant, the C43 Coupe, which is set to debut next week at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show and should be on sale later this year, as a 2017 model.

In a teaser for its new C-Class Cabriolet, which is also debuting at the Swiss show, Mercedes sneaked in its C43 Coupe. We don’t have any of the car’s specs but we expect them to match those of the current C450 AMG, which itself will soon adopt the C43 name.

This means a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission and driving all four wheels via a rear-biased version of Mercedes’ 4Matic all-wheel-drive system. Peak output should lie at 362 horsepower, which should be enough for 0-60 mph acceleration in around 5.0 seconds.

Along with the pokey V-6 engine, the C43 should benefit from sports-tuned suspension, genuine Mercedes-AMG goodies in the cabin, and several exterior cues hinting at the car’s boosted performance. The latter will include sporty bumpers and quad-exhaust tips.

Stay tuned for more details soon as the Geneva Motor Show starts March 1. In the meantime, learn about some of the other vehicles set to debut by visiting our dedicated hub.

Bethesda Details Fallout 4 Character Creation System

Bethesda Details Fallout 4 Character Creation System

Due to its rich lore, massive open worlds, quirky sense of humor, and distinctive gameplay mechanics like the VATS combat system, Bethesda’s Fallout series is undoubtedly one of the most celebrated and unique franchises in recent memory.

image description

series is undoubtedly one of the most celebrated and unique franchises in recent memory. Although the studio has declared that they will share no more story detailsabout Fallout 4 before its launch, fans of the post-apocalyptic titles who are patiently awaiting its release can take comfort in knowing that developers aren’t leaving them completely in the dark.

Bethesda has been careful to share an idea of some elements that can be expected for Fallout 4 when it finally drops, while also maintaining a sense of wonder by not revealing too much. For instance, the title’s director, Todd Howard, recently fleshed out some of the specifics regarding how the studio made better lootin order to supplement its new crafting and customization feature, leaving a lot up to the fans’ imaginations. Not to mention, rather than completely laying out all of the schematics involving weapons and combat details, Bethesda simply touched on some of the details, naming only a choice few firearms.

However, as the days draw nearer to Fallout 4 ‘s release, some fans might wish for a clearer look at some of the action-RPG’s experience-related aspects, as they’ve been covered somewhat nebulously in the recent past. Thankfully, Howard and his company have released a video today that gives gamers a closer glimpse at Fallout 4 ‘s character and perks system – better known as S.P.E.C.I.A.L. – and how the 275 separate levelsof attributes work.

As seen in the video above, Howard takes viewers through a preliminary showing of how players will interact with the Pip-Boy, with fully-animated graphics now being integrated into the equipment’s screen. Plus, Bethesda has provided an entire graphic of the stat tree’s modifiers for fans to drool over in an image seen below. The picture of the perks will be available as a poster to anyone who pre-orders a physical copy of Fallout 4 . And interestingly enough, some of our personal favorite perkshave made their way into the sequel.  Regardless, Howard explains the character system in the clip, saying:

“You do spend a lot of time in our games looking at your stats, looking at your items, and in Fallout, that comes to life with your Pip-Boy. . . . There’s a perk for each S.P.E.C.I.A.L. and each rank of that S.P.E.C.I.A.L. from 1 to 10, and if you have the value, you can choose it. . . . There are 70 base perks with multiple ranks that do new things yielding 275 that you can choose from, and it gives you a ton of choice, and many different ways to develop your character over the course of the game.”

fallout-4-perk-character-system-poster

fallout-4-perk-character-system-poster

For those who are still a bit confused about how S.P.E.C.I.A.L. will work in Fallout 4 , Bethesda further elaborates on the matter, using an example of two different, yet similar perks. Both of them fall under Agility, as the studio explains:

“It was our goal that all the Perks be balanced amongst each other, regardless of if they required a 1 or a 10. The higher the SPECIAL requirement, the more focused or exotic the Perk was for that playstyle. Take for example the Agility 1 Perk Gunslinger (20% more damage with pistols), and the Agility 10 Perk Gun Fu (your 2nd target in V.A.T.S. takes 25% more damage regardless of weapon).

What’s important is that each of these Perks is actually a mini Perk tree, with multiple ranks that also do new things. Gun Fu above allows even more damage the more targets you select, increasing to instant Critical Shots. Gunslinger has ranks that up the range of pistols, add a chance to disarm enemies, and even instant limb crippling shots.”

Essentially, the more that players level up and focus on specific S.P.E.C.I.A.L. abilities as they progress throughout Fallout 4 , individual perks become more potent and can do new things. Plus, investments in certain stat tree branches will pay off more in the long run. Not to mention, over 100 in-game magazines will grant individual perks, or up the rank of an existing perk. For instance, the Grognak the Barbarian comic book will give give an additional rank of the Barbarian Perk, which raises the critical damage of melee attacks.

While the revamped experience system may seem convoluted at first, Bethesda ensures fans that it is a necessary change in order to allow for more efficient options in growing characters. The studio says that by folding some of the skills together into one overall perk, level-up choices ultimately become more rewarding.

With so many fresh components being added to the series, Fallout 4 looks to be Bethesda’s most ambitious effort thus far. Whether it’s the inclusion of main character voice actingfor the very first time, or even the redesign of the game’s cyborgs with Generation 2 Synths, it’s a given that fans will be exploring the Boston Wastelandfor a long time to come after Fallout 4 becomes available.

Fallout 4 is set to release on November 10, 2015 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
