The 2013 GMC Terrain is the latest to adopt the Denali tag, bringing the tally of models with the upscale branding to seven.
And along with the new trim, the Terrain in 2013 also sees a more powerful 3.6-liter V-6 replace the older model’s 3.0-liter engine.
Thanks to direct-injection technology and continuously variable valve timing, the latest V-6 produces up to 301 horsepower and 272 pound-feet of torque.
Though official EPA ratings are yet to be announced, GM is confident that its 3.6-liter engine in the Terrain will return a fuel economy that matches the numbers of the 3.0-liter unit.
The key to its efficiency are lightweight components. For example, an integrated cylinder head/exhaust manifold design saves about 13 pounds compared to a non-integrated design, while a composite intake manifold saves about 5.5 pounds versus an aluminum intake. Additionally, a lightweight structural front cover and high-strength connecting rods save additional weight.
For ultimate fuel economy, the Terrain’s standard Ecotec 2.4-liter four-cylinder is still available and guarantees 182 horsepower and best-in-class 32 mpg highway economy when the Terrain is equipped with front-wheel drive.
Opting for the Denali trim, you get 18-inch wheels as standard on the 2.4-liter model and 19-inch wheels with the V-6. Other upgrades include a custom chrome grille, satin chrome accents all around, body-colored bumpers, revised head and tail-lamps, and chrome finish exhaust outlets.
