Square Enix Stocks Rise After ‘Final Fantasy 7’ Remake Announcement

Square Enix Stocks Rise After ‘Final Fantasy 7’ Remake Announcement

Many dreams came true yesterday during Sony’s E3 2015 press conference, and this was especially true when Square Enix came out on stage to announce it was doing a full on remake of the beloved Final Fantasy VII .

image description

. Of course, with the company already working onand, the announcement trailer for the long-desired remake was more of a promise than the dream becoming a reality.

The trailer for theremake received a lot of cheers and applause last night – a complete opposite of the audience’s reaction to the learning the original game would be ported to PS4 and Steam. Last night’s response was a sure sign that Square did something right, but live fan feedback wasn’t the only thing that represents the company’s latest move.

Bloomberg reportsthat Square Enix’s stocks saw an increase following their appearance at the Sony conference, rising 2.9 percent to 2,956 yen – its highest since 2008. It would seem as though more than just Final Fantasy fans are paying attention to Square, and provided the company makes good on the remake, it could end up being a huge (and highly profitable) release.

This is all the result of a cinematic trailer that showed nothing of the game itself, but nonetheless, almost certainly sent chills down the spines of many witnessing it. People have been begging for an FFVII remakefor years now, and the tech demo from years past only served to frustrate fans.

One has to wonder how long Square Enix has been working on the FFVII remake. Or, perhaps, after witnessing the underwhelming response to the aforementioned PS4 port, the company decided to finally tackle the project – despite the massive amount of time, money, and effort it will take to finish it.

Regardless, Square Enix is probably enjoying all the attention now, as well as the slight bump to their stocks, but there’s no telling how long this increase will last. Square Enix isn’t exactly known for putting out games quickly, and a beast as large as a Final Fantasy VII remake probably won’t see a release until 2017 (to mark the game’s 20th anniversary), at the earliest. By then, excitement may have dropped a bit, in addition to their stock value.

However, people have remained hopeful and enthusiastic about an updated version of Final Fantasy VII for quite some time now. What’s a couple of more years at this point?

Second Final Fantasy 15 Demo in Production

Second Final Fantasy 15 Demo in Production

Square Enix’s Director for Final Fantasy XV confirms that a second demo for the JRPG is in production, following up the Episode Duscae demo from June 2015.

image description

“2016” is certainly an ambiguous release window for Final Fantasy XV , especially considering the game’s development began about a decade ago. Fans were delivered an amount of relief when Square Enix delivered the well received a demo,. That’s still a rather large time-frame between demo and full game launch, however. Which might explain why Square Enix is apparently working on a second demo for Final Fantasy XV .

In an interview with Japanese outlet VGTime, Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata mentioned the news. Loosely translated, Tabata says that a second demo is currently in production. No further details were shared regarding the reveal, which makes it somewhat of a mystery. Considering that Final Fantasy XV is expected to be a late or holiday 2016 launch, the demo would have to be planned for a spring or summer launch.

Note that the Episode Duscae demo was originally bundled with Final Fantasy Type-0 HD . It’s more than likely that Square Enix would try and bundle their second Final Fantasy XV demo in another product. If we look at their schedule for spring and summer 2016, there are several possible bundle candidates. Dragon Quest Builders ,andare all planned for early 2016. Another strong possibility would be, which is still waiting for an official release date in 2016.

Final Fantasy 15 Second Demo

Final Fantasy 15 Second Demo

It’s also worth considering that Tabata was misquoted here, especially considering the brevity of the response and the interviewer’s lack of follow-up. It’s possible that Tabata was referring to plans to rerelease Episode Duscae , updating the demo, or even extending it — it’s difficult to tell. At the very least, fans will probably be content no matter what Square Enix delivers. What’s important is that the game is finally — finally — near release. Everything else is cursory.

And really, Episode Duscae delivered as much as fans could reasonably want from a Final Fantasy XV demo. It confirmed not only that the game existed in some form, which was a somewhat reasonable concern. It delivered exciting new gameplay, which after so many years of Final Fantasy XIII iterations was a worrisome factor. It delivered exciting new visuals, which after all the excitement over the Luminous Engineis rightly expected. And it introduced a level of scope, the frame of a very large an exciting world, that fans would expect from a 2016 JRPG.

Final Fantasy 15 Scan Reveals Latest Magic Gameplay Details

Final Fantasy 15 Scan Reveals Latest Magic Gameplay Details

The latest issue of Japanese magazine Weekly Jump has a new preview of Final Fantasy 15 which features some of the first real discussion about what magic skills will look like.

image description

The scans, which show off some never before seen gameplay stills, are primarily focused on the constantly evolving combat systemthat will define the way enemies are defeated in Final Fantasy 15 . The most exciting element included in Weekly Jump is certainly the first real look at how magic in Final Fantasy 15 will differ from the spell-slinging done in previous installments, and it appears that casting spells is no longer as easy as simply pointing at an enemy and setting them ablaze.

Final Fantasy 15 will feature a spell casting system that takes the environment surrounding enemies and allies into account. For instance, the scans show that if a player casts the “Fire” spell at an enemy who is standing in a grassy area, that whole area will burst into flames all at once, endangering not only the enemy but also the player’s allies if they aren’t careful. It’s a nice strategic nuance to the game that will add some depth to its combat, which is especially important since won’t have any difficulty settingsto make the game more difficult for seasoned veterans of the series.

Weekly Jump also revealed that there will be a number of different ways to approach initializing combat with an enemy. Noctis can attack monsters in the sky by jumping towards them rather than having to shoot them down, while Noctis can also mount monsters during combat to reduce their physical strength. Those looking to avoid messy confrontations might also get their wish as well, as Noctis is shown to have the ability to at least sneak into enemy territory to avoid being discovered. Whether or not that will actually mean players can actively dodge certain battles remains to be seen, but it is a promising development for one of the most anticipated games of 2016.

Final Fantasy 15 fans might not have to wait long before even more information about the game surfaces, either. Square Enix’s newest take on the storied franchise is due to be featured in next week’s Famitsu magazine, and there will be another Active Time Reportsooner rather than later. Although it might be optimistic to expect a concrete release date just yet, it does appear that there will be substantial information revealed in the coming weeks.

In the meantime, it appears that director Hajime Tabata and company are making good on their goal of making Final Fantasy 15 a new and improved take on a beloved RPG series. Of course, the most important question has already been answered – Moogles will be in Final Fantasy 15 , so at the very least, gamers can sleep easy knowing the fuzzy companions will not be forgotten as Final Fantasy moves forward.

2014 Jeep Wrangler Dragon Edition Roaring Into Showrooms This Fall

2014 Jeep Wrangler Dragon Edition Roaring Into Showrooms This Fall

Jeep is eager to appeal to the burgeoning Chinese automotive market.

Jeep is eager to appeal to the burgeoning Chinese automotive market. It's growing at an incredible pace, and the folks are eager for all sorts of cars. Back in 2012, the automaker went to the Beijing Auto Show and revealed a concept Wrangler dubbed the Dragon Edition.

Now that concept is becoming a reality--and it's set to land here in North America to boot. Starting this fall, the 2014 Jeep Wrangler Dragon Edition will hit dealer showrooms, with a starting price of $36,095.

The Dragon Edition wears a handsome all-black paint scheme that features bits of bronze satin effects throughout. Additionally, there is a large charcoal-colored dragon that starts on the hood and runs down around past the driver's side door. There's also a dragon on the rear tire cover.

A set of 18-inch wheels wear a dark satin finish touched off with more bronze accents.

Inside, the Dragon Edition boasts more of the same color palette found on the outside. Heated front seats are covered in dark Nappa leather, and there are dragon logos on the headrests. The floor mats use the bronze color found as an accent throughout the vehicle.

It all makes for a unique looking Jeep Wrangler. Still, it's a fairly steep price to pay for something that should prove to be a rather polarizing machine.

We imagine it will find fans among those who love Jeeps--because they're passionate, and because this is a limited edition of one of their favorite vehicles on the entire planet.

On the inside, the Polar Edition features a black leather-covered steering wheel and seats, with contrasting white stitching. The gauge cluster also gets its own white trim and instruments with blue backgrounds.

Final Fantasy 15 Now Playable from Start to Finish

Final Fantasy 15 Now Playable from Start to Finish

The next entry in Square Enix’s long-running RPG saga, Final Fantasy 15 , is now playable from start to finish in-house at the game’s development studio.

image description

According to Final Fantasy 15 ‘s programmer Satoshi Kitade, the game has been completed in its pre-beta form, which means that it can be played through from beginning to end, and that the comprehensive vision of the final product is a lot closer to completion. From here on out, Final Fantasy 15 ‘s development team will be polishing practically every aspect of the title, and will make adjustments to the gameplay accordingly.

The announcement was made over on Final Fantasy 15 ‘s official forums, and it’s definitely good news for fans and designers alike, especially after the title has been delayed on numerous occasions since its announcement for PS4 and Xbox Oneover two years ago. Interestingly enough, Kitade expressed that the game almost feels like its development has been finished entirely, writing:

“We’re at the point where we can play the game in its entirety from start to finish. From this, everyone on the development team can get an overall view on the game.”

“The first half of the game is finished with the quality of a final product, and you get the sense you’re playing it in its final form.”

Although Final Fantasy 15 ‘s development team now has a fuller understanding of the remaining efforts that need to be done in order to put the game over the top in terms of visuals and gameplay mechanics, there is, however, plenty of work left to do. Not to mention, with game development typically being a very difficult and arduous process, there’s still the potential for creators to come across some unforeseen circumstances when determining how to properly pace the title itself outside of quality assurance testing.

With developers at Square Enix now exiting the pre-beta phase for Final Fantasy 15 , the game’s simultaneous worldwide releasecould conceivably take place at the tail-end of 2016, or perhaps even sometime in 2017. While some may deem such a projection to be far too long of a wait for the game, particularly when taking into consideration all of the holdups it’s encountered so far, it would be better for everyone if creators take their time to ensure that the final product is as pristine as possible.

In the meantime, players also have a second demoto look forward to, as developers are intent on building upon the project’s assets that were presented in Episode Duscae’s playable sample back in June. Bearing all of this in mind, it seems as Final Fantasy 15 is well within our grasp.

Final Fantasy 15 is set for release sometime in 2016 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Next-Gen Wrangler Keeping Body-On-Frame Design, Toledo Production: Report

Next-Gen Wrangler Keeping Body-On-Frame Design, Toledo Production: Report

Development of the next-generation Jeep Wrangler is underway, and some big changes are expected for the iconic off-roader.

are expected for the iconic off-roader. However, Jeep will reportedly keep some elements of the current Wrangler, including its body-on-frame chassis.

Surely a relief to Wrangler fans, this bit of information comes courtesy of Automotive News (subscription required), which also reports that the next Wrangler will be built in Toledo, Ohio, just like the current model and its predecessors.

ALSO SEE: Dodge Viper ACR Concept Headlines Mopar's 2014 SEMA Fleet

Previous reports suggested the Wrangler would switch to a unibody design like the vast majority of current SUVs, and get an aluminum body for lighter weight. Both changes would make the Wrangler lighter and more efficient, but they would have also changed its character, and made it impossible to continue production in Toledo.

Off-roaders prefer body-on-frame vehicles to unibody designs, and the two can't be built on the same assembly line. At last month's Paris Auto Show, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles [NYSE:FCAU] CEO Sergio Marchionne suggested that a unibody Wrangler could be built at other Ohio plants, raising concerns in Toledo that the plant there would be bypassed.

Sticking with body-on-frame construction should keep the fans happy, and it could still be paired with an aluminum body for weight savings. This would still require an expensive re-tooling of the Toledo plant, but civic officials are putting a lot of pressure on Fiat Chrysler to keep Wrangler production there.

All of these significant changes are being considered because of looming Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards, which have carmakers looking to squeeze more efficiencyout of everything they make.

It certainly has nothing to do with slow sales. They're up 12 percent compared to the same time last year, and Wranglers are in such short supply that Jeep is limiting overseas exports.

Top 10 Permadeath Games

Top 10 Permadeath Games

Permadeath gaming has seen a huge resurgence over recent years.

image description

Permadeath gaming has seen a huge resurgence over recent years. Giving players a single life or character with which to complete the game, games with permanent death as a mechanic are notoriously difficult, tasking players with keeping upmost concentration throughout their playthrough. More often than not, attempts may end in tears – but that won’t stop players from trying their hand once more.

Now that permanent death has re-established itself as a go-to mechanic in gaming, particularly in the independent development scene with examples such as, we decided to take a look at some of the best permadeath games from the history of gaming. Here’s our pick of top ten permadeath games.

FTL: Faster Than Light

FTL Faster Than Light

FTL Faster Than Light

Perhaps one of the most famous indie games in recent years, became a cult hit upon its release in 2012. The player takes control of the crew of a spaceship, tasked with delivering news of an incoming attack from a group of violent rebels. Along the way, the crew fights or evades space pirates, alien mantises, and dangerous environmental effects, all the while upgrading both crew and vessel to survive the void of space.

Would-be cosmonauts need to be careful, however, as FTL: Faster Than Light combines a number of intimidating roguelike elements to make the game as threatening as possible. Not only are all crew members expendable, but if the ship itself is destroyed, then the player will have to start the game over from scratch. Given the title’s random encounters and overall structure, gamers need to prepare both their crew and their ship for any possible scenario.

X-COM X-Com Enemy Unknown

The X-COM series of games were classics of the 1990s, focusing on an anti-extraterrestrial team dedicated to stopping alien invasions. Known for its turn-based tactical combat, the franchise was notorious for its difficulty, with squad members dying permanently if lost during a mission. As the squad itself grows over the course of the game, this means a vital member of the unit would have to be replaced by a fresh-faced rookie.

After six games released over the course of seven years, the series then went on hiatus until 2012’s. The reboot of the franchise proved to be successful, with Firaxis and publisher 2K Games choosing to commit to further games in the X-COM franchise. Fans do not have long to wait for X-COM 2 – although the title has recently been pushed back to a February 2016 release.

The Binding of Isaac

The Binding of Isaac

The Binding of Isaac

The Binding of Isaac combines elements of retro top-down shooters such as Smash TV , as well as RPG character building and roguelike random item and level generation. The game tells the story of Isaac, a young boy in an abusive relationship with his monstrous mother. Thrown down into the basement, Isaac awakes to a terrifying world of creatures, and must overcome huge beasts – and his own mother – to escape.

The game proved massively popular, due to its eye-catching design from Super Meat Boy’s Edmund McMillen and fast gameplay, as well as its addictive blend of difficulty and replayability; if Isaac is defeated, then the player must start the game from scratch. The game has seen several releases, with the most recent The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth dropping in 2014. Rebirth ups the ante, giving players additional enemies to fights and a wealth of new content, as well as different graphical options.

DayZ

DayZ Sniper

DayZ Sniper

Starting as a mod of Arma 2 , DayZ has gone on to become a huge multiplayer gaming phenomenon. The player is dropped into a rural location overrun by deadly zombies, and must survive at all costs. A wrong move, or an unlucky encounter, and the player will have to start from scratch, once more cast out into a deadly wilderness.

It’s not just the zombies that will prove to be a danger to the player, however. As well as fighting off the undead horde, gamers must also take care of their own hunger and thirst, and above all else look out for other players. Indeed, other survivors looking for vital equipment may be the biggest killer in DayZ , and veteran players are slow to trust any other uninfected humans they come across.

ZombiU

ZombiU Artwork

ZombiU Artwork

DayZ is not the only zombie-based permadeath game on the market, and Ubisoft’s ZombiU is another great example of how permadeath can create real tension in a horror-based game. Initially released as a Wii U exclusive, ZombiU has one very interesting gameplay element: if the player dies over the course of the game, the title must be started over with a new character, who can then retrieve equipment from the player character that has gone before them.

ZombiU has finally escaped the quarantine of Wii U exclusivity, and the title is now available on PS4, Xbox One, and PCunder the moniker Zombi . However, it seems as though the port to other devices has not quite worked as intended, with the PC version in particular seemingly infected with bugs more irritating than a simple zombie infection.

Rogue

Rogue Home Page

Rogue Home Page

The word roguelike has become synonymous with permadeath, and it would be remiss to not mention the title that coined the term in the first place. That game in question is Rogue , and it is one of the cult classics of 1980s gaming. The RPG had permanent death and randomly-generated dungeon levels, and helped create a number of gameplay elements that are still used in gaming today.

In fact, Rogue has had a huge legacy on gaming, partly responsible for everything from the aforementioned FTL: Faster Than Light to Blizzard’sseries. Although Rogue was not a commercial success, its lasting legacy on the video game world is undeniable. The title may prove tricky for those used to the improved interfaces of modern gaming, but Rogue still includes plenty of familiar mechanics for those after a challenge.

Fire Emblem

Fire Emblem Artwork

Fire Emblem Artwork

The Fire Emblem series is one of the darlings of Nintendo’s handheld market. Initially seeing release in 1990 on Nintendo’s Famicom system, the franchise saw an explosion of popularity in the west with the North American release of Fire Emblem in 2003 for the Game Boy Advance. Since then, the tactical RPG series has become a staple of the handheld player’s library, with Fire Emblem Fates set to release in 2016.

Players should not get too attached to the characters on show, however. Death in Fire Emblem is a huge ordeal to overcome, as the defeat of a character means that they will not return for any future battles – a particularly terrifying prospect when a gamer has spent untold hours training them up. Although some games in the series have offered a more lenient approach to character death, the threat of a mortality is still a very present danger.

Don’t Starve

Don't Starve Wilson

Don't Starve Wilson

Don’t Starve placed players into the shoes of a scientist named Wilson, and tasked them with a single mission: to survive. Unfortunately, mere survival itself is an extremely difficult task in, with players having to overcome nightmarish creatures and a myriad of challenges. The crafting-focused title gives plenty of ways to kill a player, and savvy users need to look out for Wilson’s health, hunger, and sanity at all times.

Indeed, Don’t Starve has become a commercial hit in its own right, with Klei Entertainment releasing numerous versions of the title. Don’t Starve Together is a multiplayer version of the survival smash, and is currently in early access, whilst Don’t Starve: Giant Edition was released for PS Vita, PS3, and Wii U. Meanwhile, the developer is currently working on Don’t Starve: Shipwrecked , which gives players additional characters.

Spelunky

Spelunky Artwork

Spelunky Artwork

Initially released as freeware,is an indie platformer that tests every inch of a player’s reaction speed. The free-to-play PC version of the title was released in 2009, and impressed gamers with randomly-generated levels and destructible environments. Of course, the real pull for many was the hair-pulling difficulty and permanent death mechanics.

Spelunky proved to be so popular in its free-to-play form that developer Mossmouth then proceeded to create an Xbox Live Arcade version of the title. The re-release upped the ante with improved graphics and controls, as well as additional monsters and traps to avoid, and secrets to find. The enhanced edition proved to be a critical darling, even winning three IGF awards.

Dwarf Fortress

Dwarf Fortress World Map

Dwarf Fortress World Map

In spite of its humble beginnings, Dwarf Fortress is a hugely influential project, even motivating the development of video game giant. The Tarn Adams title flew in the face of the traditional business model, with the two-man development team surviving solely on donations from fan backers. The title has gone through various versions, amalgamating various genres including roguelike and management sim.

Although some may find the text-based graphical style a little awkward, the title’s addictive gameplay has given Dwarf Fortress a cult following. The game’s defining feature, however, is its brutal difficulty; whether choosing Fortress Mode or Adventure Mode, the player will eventually succumb to the goblin hordes, leaving their fortress in tatters.

There’s our pick of ten of the best permadeath games around. What do you think of our list? Have you enjoyed any of the above games? Or do you think that there are other permadeath titles that are worthy of being thought of as the best on the market? Let us know in the comments!

Next Jeep Wrangler To Get Eight-Speed Auto: Report

Next Jeep Wrangler To Get Eight-Speed Auto: Report

It looks like an eight-speed automatic transmission will be among the changes made to the next-generation Jeep Wrangler as Fiat Chrysler Automobiles [NYSE:FCAU] looks to improve the vehicle's efficiency without compromising its off-road ability.

without compromising its off-road ability. A filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission this month appears to confirm the move to an eight-speed, according to Automotive News (subscription required).

In the filing, FCA says it plans to use the eight-speed currently deployed in the Ram 1500, Jeep Grand Cherokee, and other models in "all of our rear-wheel-drive vehicles," except heavy-duty pickup trucks and the Viper supercar.

The company says the transmission—built under license from ZF—improves fuel economy by 9 percent across the board compared to the five-speed automatic it's replacing. The current Wrangler uses that five speed, and Chrysler is apparently eager to get rid of it. The automaker reportedly wanted to install the eight-speed before the redesign, but it just won't fit in the current-gen Wrangler.

This is just one of the ways Chrysler is looking at to improve the Wrangler's efficiency, but it's probably the least controversial so far. The next Wrangler will likely get an aluminum body, but keep its body-on-frame design, although a more car-like unibody was considered. Chrysler is also considering ditching the Wrangler's solid axlesto save weight and improve fuel economy.

These are seen as vital off-road equipment, but FCA is under pressure to meet tightening global emissions standards, including stricter Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards here in the U.S.

There is some hope for off-road fans, however. Dana—which makes the axles—is reportedly investing in new machinery at its Fort Wayne, Indiana, plant. There's no confirmed connection to the next-gen Wrangler, but perhaps it's a good sign.

Final Fantasy 15 Release Date Coming March 30

Final Fantasy 15 Release Date Coming March 30

Final Fantasy 15 director Hajime Tabata confirms during the January Square Enix Active Time Report event that fans will finally have a release date soon.

image description

After a long decade spent in development that saw the game shift from being an extension of the Final Fantasy 13 series to an entirely new title in its own right, Final Fantasy 15 will have a concrete release date in just a few months time. While Hajime Tabata revealed during a panel at PAX Prime many months ago that the announcement of Final Fantasy 15 ‘s release datewould be in March, information regarding that announcement was scarce enough that some industry insiders began speculating that Final Fantasy 15 had hit another setback in development.

Luckily for RPG fans, at least the announcement of the release date is still on schedule, with an event in Los Angeles on March 30 called ‘Final Fantasy Uncovered’ serving as the location that will finally answer the biggest question left regarding Final Fantasy 15 . Once the announcement is made, gamers in every region can start to prepare for Noctis and company’s arrival, as Final Fantasy 15 will have a worldwide releaseto ensure nobody gets left out on day one.

Whether or not the actual date of release will stay true to Tabata’s word as well, however, remains to be seen. While Tabata has been adamant that Final Fantasy 15 will release in 2016, fans of the series and interested spectators alike have voiced concerns over the behind the scenes situation behind Tabata’s public confidence. After all, Final Fantasy 15 has been delayed in various forms for ten years, and it was only four months ago that the development team made a drastic change to Final Fantasy 15 ‘s automatic battle system, removing the weapon changing automation entirely.

If Tabata and the team at Square Enix are behind schedule, however, they’re doing a fine job convincing the gaming world they aren’t. After Weekly Jump scans of Final Fantasy 15 ‘s magic combatleaked a week ago, gamers believed the January ATR event would focus on more battle footage than the past Final Fantasy 15 events have, and they were right. Alongside the introduction of Aranea Highwind, a female Dragoon character, the event showcased more magic highlights that included the way the player’s environment will dictate the effectiveness of their magic use.

If seeing more of Aranea and the other characters live during the reveal of the game’s release date is something fans are interested in, Square Enix is also offering the ability to RSVP for Final Fantasy Uncovered beginning Friday, February 5 at 4pm PT on the event’s official website. For those gamers who can’t make it out to Los Angeles for the reveal, Square Enix will also be hosting a live stream of the event on its YouTube and Twitch channels.

Final Fantasy 15 is set to release in 2016 for Xbox One and PS4.

Mobile makers seek extension of differential pricing rules

Mobile makers seek extension of differential pricing rules

0
08 Jan 2016 , 13:20
Mobile and IT equipment makers have sought extension of differential pricing rules imposed on mobile phones to other categories of electronic products, a move that will boost domestic manufacturing.

“We have requested government that besides continuing differential pricing on mobile phones, it should be extended to other categories as well like laptops,” Foxconn India Country head Josh Foulger told reporters after a pre-budget meeting with Finance Minister Arun Jaitley Thursday.

To boost local manufacturing of mobile phones and tablets, the government in last budget increased duty benefits for domestic producers of these electronic items.聽Excise duty structure for mobiles handsets was changed to one percent without CENVAT credit or 12.5 percent with CENVAT credit which gave domestic manufacturers a benefit of about 11 percent over imported phones.

The current fiscal year saw investments from manufacturing giant Foxconn in the country while many other mobile phone companies like Gionee, Xiaomi, Lava, Karbonn, HTC, Datawind, started production of their handsets locally.

“For successful Make In India campaign, we have requested a tax structure where we can focus on higher value addition in manufacturing of electronic products. We are looking for measures that can encourage development of component base in the country,” Indian Cellular Association National President Pankaj Mohindroo said.

Telecom Equipment Manufacturers Association of India (TEMA) has requested government to levy duties on non-ITA (Information Technology Agreement) products as well as review duty on IT and Telecom products falling under duty free import category.

“We have also requested Finance Minister to introduce 5 percent research and development cess on user of telecom services to create a corpus for supporting R&D for technology development in telecom sector,” Shyam Telecom Chairman and Managing Director Rajiv Mehrotra who led TEMA at the meeting said.

He said that in line with Make In India objective, TEMA has requested government to extend infrastructure status to domestic telecom equipment manufacturing companies complying with preferential market access (PMA) rules.

“We have also requested to extend Income Tax section 35 AD benefit to domestic telecom equipment manufacturing companies which are complying with PMA provisions,” Mehrotra said.聽Under PMA, a company is required to give preference to domestically manufactured components in final product.

Black Ops 3 Beats Fallout 4 as Best Selling Game of November 2015

Black Ops 3 Beats Fallout 4 as Best Selling Game of November 2015

In what some might consider a surprising result, Activision and Treyarch’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 took the top spot on November sales charts ahead of Fallout 4 .

image description

November is one of the biggest months in video game sales, and this year’s offerings were among the best the industry had to offer. In fact, industry-tracking firm The NDP Group’s research revealed video games increased its share of the overall Thanksgiving and Black Friday sales compared to last year. Speaking of sales, although Bethesda’s Fallout 4 dominated headlines and was nearly unanimously on every Game of the Year ballot, it was Activision’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 that ended up topping the sales charts.

While the news might come as a surprise to some, those who have been paying attention to sales projections for the last few months knew that Black Ops 3 was the most anticipated game of Fall 2015according to Nielsen insight group. While promises that the story of Black Ops 3 is “really screwed up”couldn’t have hurt interest in the game’s narrative, as with other Call of Duty titles, sales were primarily driven on the promise of its tight multiplayer experience. The fact Black Ops 3 was available on the Xbox 360 and PS3 while Fallout 4 was not also likely played a role in the former’s sales volume.

Of course, November’s sales charts revealed a lot more than just the predictable dominance of two AAA franchises. Star Wars: Battlefront finished in third, while Halo 5: Guardians and Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate finished closer to the bottom of the top 10. One game that was conspicuous in its absence was Rise of the Tomb Raider , which didn’t make the list despite making many others regarding the best games the Xbox One has to offerthis holiday season. Many blame the game’s timed exclusivity for the poor showing, as the November numbers obviously don’t include the sales the game will get on the PS4 and PC platform in 2016.

That being said, the only exclusive that did crack the list was an Xbox One game, as Halo 5: Guardians continued its strong sales into November. Despite the PS4 reclaiming its throne as the top-selling consolethis month, its pretty clear that Microsoft’s console isn’t too far behind and has more than enough in the way of exclusives, like Halo 5 , to compete.

That’s good news, since Microsoft’s Phil Spencer announced earlier today that there will likely be another Xbox console in the future, and healthy competition between the console manufacturers results in stronger game line-ups for fans to enjoy as well. For now, though, it appears exclusivity doesn’t necessarily help sales, as Black Ops 3 and Fallout 4 can attest to.

Xiaomi misses 80 million smartphone sales target; investors worry: Report

Xiaomi has missed its 2015 sales target mark of 80 million smartphones, and this has put the company under pressure to prove the valuation to investors, adds a new report by聽 The Wall Street Journal citing people familiar with the matter.

By tech2 News Staff /  12 Jan 2016 , 10:04

Xiaomi was considered one of the most valued startups, and with it missing the said target, investors may now want to take a second look at the $46 billion valuation. The company had raised huge amounts and now seem to be under pressure to meet the expectations.

Xiaomi came up with the unique idea of selling a limited number of products via flash sale. The company relies only on social media to promote its products. The flash sales gathered a lot of hype, while company also started focusing on fan clubs. It was in December 2014 that the company raised $1.1 billion and leaped to a valuation of $46 million. Highlighting some analysts, the report adds that the easy availability of devices has led to the slowing demand.

The company’s growth overseas hasn’t been swift, but it turns out be quite popular in India. The company had also revealed its. Xiaomi has started making phones in India at a plant in Vishakapatnam. The company has 70 service centres across the country and of them, 10 are exclusive to Mi devices, as reported in September 2015.

This isn’t really surprising as another聽聽last year had called Xiaomi鈥檚 $45 billion valuation as聽鈥楿nfeasible鈥.

Marchionne: Wrangler Won’t Get All-Aluminum Body, New Grand Cherokee May Be Delayed

In its five-year strategy announcement for its Jeep brand made one year ago, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles [NYSE:FCAU] said new versions of the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee would be introduced in 2017.

brand made one year ago, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles [NYSE:FCAU] said new versions of the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee would be introduced in 2017. Now there have been some changes made to the original plans.

There’s been a lot of talk about the Wrangler and, in particular, how the vehicle will feature a number of elements aimed at reducing fuel consumption. One of these elements was said to be an all-aluminum body.

However, speaking with Automotive News (subscription required), FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne said the automaker has now changed its plans for the Wrangler and will no longer develop it with an all-aluminum body but will stick with conventional steel. Some components will remain aluminum, however, such as hung-on pieces like the tailgate, hood and doors.

“We've run the numbers and we've simulated mileage and the impact,” Marchionne explained. “Because of the difference in cost—not just of the material but the actual assembly process—I think we can do almost as well without doing it all-aluminum. I think we can get very close.”

As for the new Grand Cherokee, Marchionne said the vehicle may be delayed beyond the promised 2017 launch so that it can be jointly developed with a new Grand Wagoneer due out in 2018. Both vehicles are expected to ride on an updated version of the current Grand Cherokee’s platform.

“[Wagoneer] development needs to coincide with a complete relook at the Grand Cherokee architecture, and effectively jointly develop them,” Marchionne said. “And if there is a delay, it’s due to the joining of these two programs into something that makes sense. It needs to happen.”

And in the same interview, Marchionne said FCA will target luxury models such as the Land Rover Range Rover and other $100k SUVs with a high-end version of the Wagoneer, as opposed to a separate, all-new vehicle that Bloomberg reported a week ago.

Darkest Dungeon Launch Trailer Teases Brutal Difficulty

Darkest Dungeon Launch Trailer Teases Brutal Difficulty

Darkest Dungeon is officially launched on Steam after a year of Early Access, delivering on its Kickstarter promise of unforgiving, uncompromising action.

image description

Another Kickstarter darlinghas delivered, as the unpitying RPG Darkest Dungeon has been fully released on PC as of this morning. The final patch notes are live, the final and darkest dungeon has been added to the end of the game, a launch trailer is published, and developer Red Hook Studios cackles wildly from their throne of skulls. Darkest Dungeon can be purchased via Steam for $19.99, which is part of a two-week 20% discount ending February 2.

As part of their launch announcement, Red Hook Studios wrote a letterto their community thanking them for their support and discussing the process that had led to this point. Halfway through, they describedin a way that must be shared:

“Darkest Dungeon grew up in that second year. It was not friendly, or welcoming; it did not owe you a victory, or suffer fools. It wasn’t fair, like the horror movies and war stories that formed its foundation. It broke game ‘rules’; took control away, kicked you when you were down. It smoked behind the gym with its friends and skipped class.

Underneath all that badassery, though, it challenged you to think differently about heroism, and about the cost of adventuring. It taught you that preparedness was important, but thinking on your feet when the s*** hits the fan was the true test. And, of course, it reminded you that overconfidence is a slow and insidious killer. For all its unyielding focus on what can go wrong in an adventure, it showed why heroism is the only antidote for failed hope.”

It’s refreshing to see the developer be so direct about what kind of game Darkest Dungeon is, because there will inevitably be many players who outright refuse to play Darkest Dungeon again after it shows how truly vicious it can be. It’s best players know what they’re getting into so they have no one else to blame when the dungeon wins.

The Darkest Dungeon began its life as a side-project developed by four friends. However, the scope of the project quickly grew beyond their means, leading to the launch of a Kickstarterrequesting $75,000. The project would go on to raise $313,000 and funded the developers work through 2014. By the start of 2015, they’d have Darkest Dungeon in a playable state and launch the game on Steam’s Early Access. Over the past 12 months the game has changed in large and small ways, many the result of direct feedback from the community. Today it’s fully launched.

That Darkest Dungeon exists and is fully launched today is evidence of how far independent development has come in recent years. Kickstarter only launchedin 2009. Steam Early Access only launched in 2013. That both of those platforms reached a stable pointwhere a team of four friends could find success on each, thereby allowing them to bring Darkest Dungeon that much closer to launch, is incredible. Ten years ago, Darkest Dungeon would never have been made.

Darkest Dungeon is available today on Steam for $19.99, part of a two-week 20% discount off the regular $24.99 price. There are plans to bring Darkest Dungeon to the PlayStation 4 and PS Vita, tentatively scheduled for Q2 2016.

Jeep Plans Luxury SUV Positioned Above New Grand Wagoneer

Jeep plans to launch a large, luxurious SUV to take on the likes of the Cadillac Escalade, Land Rover Range Rover, Lincoln Navigator and Mercedes-Benz GL-Class, according to Sergio Marchionne, the CEO of Jeep parent company Fiat Chrysler Automobiles [NYSE:FCAU].

This will be a new SUV positioned above the full-size Grand Wagoneer that Jeep plans to introduce in 2018, and given the price tags of its intended rivals we could see the new Jeep priced upwards of $100,000 in some trims.

“When I see a Range Rover on the street, my blood boils, because we should be able to do a thing like that—and we will,” Marchionne told Bloomberg , adding that work on the vehicle had already started.

Marchionne went on to explain that he didn’t mention the new luxury SUV in FCA’s five-year strategy announcement for Jeepmade last year because he didn’t want to show his hand too soon.

Jeep has never really offered a luxury SUV but the brand name is well recognized, perhaps more so than some of its rivals in emerging markets. This provides FCA with an opportunity to introduce a high-end Jeep even though it’s not a category one would expect to see the brand compete in.

SUV sales continue to enjoy strong growth all around the globe, and about half of these sales are made up of luxury models, so understandably there is a number of automakers rushing to capitalize on the demand. Audi, BMW and Maserati plan to enter the large, luxury SUV segment with their respective Q8, X7 and Levante models, and at the upper end of the spectrum there’s Bentley with its Bentaygaand Rolls-Royce with its Project Cullinan .

Hellcat-powered Wrangler heads to Moab for 2016 Easter Jeep Safari: Video

Hellcat-powered Wrangler heads to Moab for 2016 Easter Jeep Safari: Video

The Easter Jeep Safari which takes place annually in Moab, Utah is on this month and this year's meet is expected to be the biggest on record.

That’s because 2016 marks the event’s 50th anniversary (it’s also Jeep’s 75th year) and to celebrate Jeep has built a total of seven concepts, one of which is a Wrangler powered by the supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 we all know as the Hellcat.

The seven concepts include both heritage-inspired designs plus some based on the latest production models, and all were built by a team of passionate engineers and designers that have been building similar concepts since 2002. Many of the parts used are already on offer through the Mopar catalog and some are prototype parts being evaluated for production.

The highlight is the Jeep Trailcat, which is the Hellcat-powered Wrangler.  To get the 707-horsepower Hellcat engine into the Wrangler, designers stretched the wheelbase an additional 12 inches while chopping the windshield 2.0 in for a sleeker look. For off-roading, there are steel front and rear bumpers, 17-in beadlock wheels, 39.5-in BF-Goodrich Krawler T/A KX tires, front and rear Dana 60 axles and Fox shocks.

The Rengade was also a popular base for the building of the concepts. One of the cooler examples was the Jeep Comanche. It’s meant to hint at military Jeeps of the past and features a stretched wheelbase to accommodate a 5.0-foot bed, along with a 2.0-in lift kit, 16-in painted wheels, 32-in BF-Goodrich All Terrain T/A tires and a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder diesel engine.

A final concept worth mentioning is the Jeep FC 150. This 1960 Jeep FC 150-based concept is rich with heritage though aided by some modern tech. Underneath its original steel body sits the modified chassis of a 2005 Jeep Wrangler, which now features a Dana 44 front axle, Dana 60 rear axle and 17-in white steel wheels wrapped in 33-in BF-Goodrich Mud-Terrain T/A KM2 tires. Power in this baby comes from a 4.0-liter inline-6 sourced from PowerTech.

The 2016 Easter Jeep Safari runs from March 19-27. For concepts from past events, head to our dedicated hub.

Jeep Grand Wagoneer Nameplate Returning On Upscale SUV In 2013

Jeep Grand Wagoneer Nameplate Returning On Upscale SUV In 2013

The Wagoneer name dates back to the 1960s and was used over the years on a line of SUVs from various marques, with many pundits describing the vehicles as some of the first upscale off-roaders.

While most other automakers, including luxury SUV stalwart Land Rover, were building relatively utilitarian models, the Wagoneer models were coming with such amenities as independent front suspension, automatic transmissions and power steering--rarities for off-road vehicles at the time.

Jeep now plans to revive one of its most hallowed nameplates, the Grand Wagoneer, for a new upscale SUV with seven-seat capacity. That was the promise made by Fiat-Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne who announced at a press conference at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show this week that a new Grand Wagoneer will arrive by January of 2013.

It will share a platform with the recently launched Grand Cherokee and the Dodge Durango. Interestingly, 2013 will also see the launch of a Maserati SUV based on the same platform.

Marchionne also reaffirmed Chrysler's plans for continued investment in its Hemi range of V-8 engines, despite fears that fuel prices could creep past the $5 per gallon mark and stay there. This means you can expect a Hemi V-8 option on the Grand Wagoneer, in addition to the almost certain Pentastar V-6.

The last Grand Wagoneers were sold in 1991, mostly to wealthy clientele. The new generation is expected to keep that positioning, remaining as the most expensive model in Jeep’s lineup.

10 Things About ‘Pokemon’ That Still Bother Me

10 Things About ‘Pokemon’ That Still Bother Me

Few franchises have reached the blockbuster success of the Pokemon series.

image description

series. Ever since Pokemon Red and Blue first made their appearance in North America in 1998, fans have been eagerly gulping down multiple entries in the series in the years following – leading to one of the largest properties ever conceived by Nintendo. While there are a lot of people that show an undying love for the series, however, there are a handful of things that have irked others.

Whether it’s the arrival of new Pokemon, or a handful of gameplay mechanics, the franchise is not without its downfalls. Taking that into consideration, we’ve created a list of the ten things that have continued to and still bother us about Pokemon . With that said, buckle up and get ready for some of the most baffling and downright eerie issues that can still be found within the cutesy property.

Why Was The Truck Sitting On That Island in Pokemon Red and Blue ?

You Can’t See Wild Pokemon Around You

Pokemon Cant See Monsters

Pokemon Cant See Monsters

As many trainers can attest, there are a number of massive monsters that are just waiting to be captured in any Pocket Monster title. Whether its Onix from the first generation or Wailord from the recently released Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire , there are some truly massive beasts to be found. That said, wild Pokemon are never visible despite their girth. Admittedly, this mechanic seems to be for the best within the games, but we’ve always wondered why we couldn’t see each area’s dedicated wildlife – outside of Legendary Pokemon encounters.

You Can Travel On Very Tiny Pokemon

Pokemon Small Pokemon Flying

Pokemon Small Pokemon Flying

This is one that has been lampooned by fans for quite some time, although many will attest that it’s far from a bad thing. The ability to travel on top of your beloved, beastly companions has been a feature since the first installments arrived on the Game Boy back in the ’90s, but for some reason the size of the monster has never factored into whether or not it can carry a moderately sized child. Watching a Pidgey pickup and fly off with an unsuspecting youngster to some random area in the region very rarely spells good things for the people residing in the world of Pokemon .

Unconscious Pokemon Can Still Use HM Moves

Pokemon Fainted

Pokemon Fainted

There’s a very good understanding of what it means to be unconscious. Laying there with only basic brain functions that instruct one to keep breathing (hopefully), there’s not much anyone or thing can do once they’ve entered this state. Pokemon in particular are infamous for being knocked out during battles, but for some reason they still have the ability to utilize powerful HM attacks outside of battle. That said, it would be unfortunate to watch Pokemon Trainers drown if they were to lose a battle mid-Surf, but the option for a near-lifeless Pokemon to still be utilized outside of duels never really made sense.

Being Unable to Forget HM Moves On The Go

Pokemon Cant Forget HMs

Pokemon Cant Forget HMs

The bane of many a wannabe Pokemon Master’s existence is the need to implement HM moves to get around the in-game world. Sure, it adds to the puzzle-solving elements and ensures that players don’t accidentally miss a Gym Leader, but the second the force-fed maneuver outstays its welcome it becomes an adventure just to have the thing removed from the inflicted Pokemon’s arsenal. Attacks like ‘Cut’ are nearly useless inside of battles, and – while having the attacks labelled as an HM is helpful for ousting these world-altering attacks amongst a bevy of TMs – it’s time that Game Freak allow players to forget these moves whenever the mood suites them.
