Journalist Geoff Keighley reveals that industry awards ceremony The Game Awards will return on December 3 and will take place in Los Angeles, this time around.
Last year’s Game Awards were conceived as a much more serious alternative to the Spike Video Game Awards, with the Spike awards show often being criticized for its overreliance on gamer stereotypes and jokes. The inaugural celebration, which was hosted (and set up by) journalist Geoff Keighley, went down well and offered a chance for commemorate the year’s best gameswhile also playing host to several world premieres such as a No Man’s Sky gameplay trailerand a look at Metal Gear Online . After confirming that the bash would have a second year, a date has now been set for The Game Awards 2015.
The Game Awards 2015, it has been announced, will take place on December 3, 2015. Once again, the festivities will be hosted by Keighley, though this time around the show will take place in Los Angeles instead of Las Vegas, a move that has most likely been done to accommodate Sony’s PlayStation Experience 2015event which takes place in San Francisco just a few days later. Keighley also says that he expects more than 2 million people to watch the show online, as it will be streamed via YouTube, Twitch, Steam, PSN and Xbox Live.
At this point it’s unclear just which games will be honored at the ceremony though there are certainly some likely contenders. Given the excitement surrounding Bethesda’s new game, and the fact that reviews have been largely positive, Fallout 4 will probably be up for Best Role-Playing Game and Game of the Year, among other categories.
PS4 exclusive Bloodborne also impressed when that launched earlier in the year and could get a Best Action/Adventure nomination, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is a shoo-in for Best Shooter and/or Best Online Experience and Disney Infinity 3.0 and Lego Dimensions could face-off against one another in the Best Family Game category.
The Game Awards 2015’s big reveals are also up for speculation, as people will be curious as to how Keighley and co. can top last year’s announcements. However, The Game Awards’ advisory board features some of the most well-known (and the most influential) faces in gaming, such as the Head of Xbox Phil Spencer, CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America Shawn Layden, Valve, Rockstar, and Hideo Kojima. Many fans will be angling for new game reveals or new expansions (such as Fallout 4 DLC) but with those famous names being involved anything and everything is possible when the show takes place next month.
