With just one day left until the Pokémon -themed Nintendo Direct, trademarks have been found that could be related to the next Pokémon titles: Moon and Sun .
With 2016 being the 20th anniversary of the original Pokémon games release, celebrations are in order for the major Nintendo franchise. This year, The Pokémon Company is launching a whole host of new Pokémon titles but there has yet to be any word on the next main series game – until now.
As fans of the franchise may know, Nintendo is hosting athemed Direct tomorrow at 7:00AM Pacific time. The run time for this direct is said to be 5 minutes in length, which should be just enough time to announce two brand new versions of Pokémon, apparently titled Pokémon Sun and Moon . These titles were both found trademarked by Nintendo today and come with respective logos, leaving very little doubt that the games will be announced during tomorrow’s direct.
It may not be the Pokémon Red / Blue sequel that we’ve all been waiting for but there’s no denying that fans will be extremely excited to hear news of a main title release, especially since it’s been 2 and a half years since Pokémon X / Y gave us the last entirely new game. With 2016 being the Year ofthere’s no better time for Sun / Moon ‘s release and, if real, the games are likely set to launch towards the end of the year.
Nintendo have yet to comment on the leak and are unlikely to until tomorrow, but the company has an undeniably unfortunate history with information leaks. Last year saw new Super Smash Bros. DLC characters Roy and Ryu have full trailers leakedas well as both fighters becoming playable to dataminers. While trademarking itself doesn’t mean anything – something Nintendo proved with Pokémon Delta Emerald – the timing of these leaks as well as the fact that they both come with finished logos all but confirms the games’ existence.
We’ll have to wait until tomorrow to learn more about the exciting new Pokémon adventure that may be awaiting us sometime in the near future but it’s a safe bet that the folks at Nintendo are kicking themselves for letting this one slip so close to the reveal. It’s also worth wondering whether we’ll see older Pokémon making an appearance in Sun / Moon like we did in X / Y .
Considering the anniversary, it seems a prime time to bring back Solrock and Lunatone after all. With the Pokédex now containing 722 varieties ofit will be interesting to see what new additions could arrive in these upcoming titles.
