Google Play Music will聽soon offer podcasts through its service based on a user’s current interest which could help the company’s service offer an edge over聽the other apps and services available today.

Google Play Music will聽soon offer podcasts through its service based on a user’s current interest which could help the company’s service offer an edge over聽the other apps and services available today. The consumer launch for this service is said to arrive in a few months.

According to the,聽Elias Roman, Product Manager at Google Play Music stated, “Along with direct searches and browsing for podcasts, the service will connect new listeners with podcasts based on what they鈥檙e doing, how they鈥檙e feeling, or what they鈥檙e interested in. Similar to our contextual playlists for music, this will give podcast fans and new listeners a way of finding and listening to content that鈥檚 unique to Google Play Music.”

Some of the聽popular podcasters and networks to offer their shows聽include聽5by5,聽Dan Carlin,聽Dave Ramsey, Earwolf, Feral Audio,聽Gimlet Media,聽HBO,聽Head Gum,聽HowStuffWorks,聽Loud Speakers Network,聽Nerdist/Legendary,聽Public Radio International,聽Radiotopia/PRX,聽Sideshow Network,聽Slate/Panoply,聽StarTalk Radio,聽This Week in Tech and聽Tim Ferriss.

Elias Roman,聽co-founder of the streaming service Songza聽before Google acquired it last year,聽 also told Re/Code聽 that podcasting was always in Songza鈥檚 roadmap. Google accelerated it. 鈥淥ur goal is to serve content that makes what you do every day better,鈥� he said.聽鈥淧odcasts allow us to do everything for our users,鈥� Roman added. 鈥淚t makes us a more complete concierge.鈥�/p>

The report also shed some light on the fact that sorting podcasts algorithmically isn’t as easy as sorting music.聽If Google can crack that problem, it will please the podcasting world.
